No real rules, though I wouldn't count members of the same act as a "duet" (like Simon & Garfunkel, or John & Paul).
I'll start with Roberta Flack & Donny Hathaway's "Where Is The Love"
I reckon this thread won't get a ton of attention for our younger folk, but at least I'll have a sandbox to play in.
I don't really have a format for the thread as a whole, though I'm piddling around with a countdown and some record reviews and some cultural stuff and some contrarian takes...
40. "I Feel Love" - Donna Summer
This record was way ahead of its time.
More importantly, I saw her sing it on American Bandstand in a teddy. I was 15
40. "Battle Hymn Of LT Kelly" - Terry Nelson
WTF? I don't remember this one at all, and I wish I hadn't heard it now. This is worse than the constant complaining in every thread about board moderation.
40. "Dancing Machine" - Jackson Five
This ain't nothing BUT groove. The closest Michael and the rest ever came to gut-bucket funk. Also, I think this is the song Michael broke out the robot dance on.
40. "Like A Sunday In Salem" - Gene Cotton
This guy's pretty much forgotten now, but he had some good records. He's hard to describe, as there was not really anyone in the late 70s doing what he was.
40. "Rocky" - Austin Roberts
Welp, we kick off with one of those whitebread story-songs that were so big back then. Stuff like "Blind Man In The Bleachers", "Shannon", and "Run Joey Run".
40. "Leaving Me" - The Independents
Not sure I recall this one, but there were so many good soul records coming out around this time. Sounds like a cross between The Chi Lites and the O Jays
Haven't had time to do one of these in a while. I may have to post in bunches, as I'm cooking a bunch of food.
Let's kick it off with the mighty Temptations
40. "Shaky Ground"
