The Lawyer Thread Where We Stop Ruining Other Threads

Probably nothing happens, frankly. Maybe they send you a letter telling you to stop (called a cease and desist letter). They could also send a letter offering to leave you alone for a relatively small amount of money, say $20k (basically offering you a license). They aren't likely to sue unless...

The Lawyer Thread Where We Stop Ruining Other Threads

Am patent attorney, but not your attorney. I use patents.Google.com to do my searching. There are other better tools, but they usually require a subscription. Patent applications are not immediately public. Typically they become public 18 months after filing (or when the patent issues if they...

Daylight Saving Time ends this Sunday. Set your clock back.

You forgot where it's like with little kids. Instead of being up at 6, they're up at 7. Winning!

    Disney Vacation

Just got back from WDW. Did one day at Magic Kingdom, another at Animal Kingdom, and one pool day. I still don't understand how people call it magical or anything like that. Our kids are little and they enjoyed themselves, but they didn't seem awed. My son had the most fun checking out the real...

The “I want to retire soon” thread

If my daughters think I'm paying for their wedding they'll have a another thing coming. My wife's parents didn't give us anything but they didn't have anything either. I think my parents gave us $5k or something like that (less than 10 years ago). I'll probably give something similar (adjusted...

    Home-owners...What are your current projects?

I'd be finding some lithium 9V batteries that last for several years so that I didn't have to deal with that. That sounds unpleasant.

    Electric Cars (Tesla and Others)

My guess is it was more the speed you were driving, though temperature definitely plays a huge part. Here is a really cool site that estimates the effect of temperature and speed on mileage (not for your vehicle, just generally). About halfway down you'll find a slider for "Impact of...

    Electric Cars (Tesla and Others)

The theoretical maximum efficiency of sugar panels is 33%. Even if you could do that, it's not going to help for putting solar panels on cars. Trying link again

What's Normal? - When do you typically open Christmas presents?

Growing up we opened gifts on Christmas Eve. My parents still host on Christmas Eve, so now that I have my own family we open gifts on Christmas Day morning.

    Home-owners...What are your current projects?

Agree with belljr, a zoomed out pic would help. I'm not sure repairing is your best option. Is that wood under the plaster? If so, I'd consider scraping the plaster off the shelves and leaving as wood.

What's Normal? - Do you typically go to Church on Christmas Eve?

My church will skip the normal Sunday morning service and does our standard Christmas service. They'll do the same service twice on Christmas Eve (Sunday afternoon) and then again Christmas Day (Monday morning).

Telling Your Kids Santa Is Real

Really good question and I should have answered that in my first post. Biggest reason is that I didn't want my kids to think that since I was lying about Santa I am also lying about my faith in God. I fully expect people to crap all over that, and plenty of people teach their kids about Santa...

Telling Your Kids Santa Is Real

We told them Santa isn't real right away (maybe 2 or 3 years old). Same for Easter Bunny and all the others. Other parents at our kids daycare probably weren't terribly happy about that, but we tried to tell our kids not to tell other kids. We also told their teachers what we told our kids just...
