I very much enjoy baseball statistics, and WAR in particular is a very interesting metric, but does anyone really understand how it is calculated?
For instance I'd like to compare two very awesome seasons.
Player A
746 PA's, 213 hits, 25 doubles, 15 triples, 46 hrs, 121 runs, 139 rbis, .315...
Perhaps it may be beneficial for those playing in daily league games, or in leagues with daily lineups for an exchange of information/details that may assist in setting an optimal lineup.
Streaming pitchers, platoon players, guys called up, anything goes up in here.
let's have at it.
In looking into Jim Thome's career, he has put up some fantastic numbers.
Within the next month or two, he will pass Palmeiro and Killebrew to move in the top 10 of all time in home runs, with a decent shot of passing McGwire and Frank Robinson:
7. Frank Robinson 586
8. Alex Rodriguez 585...
Joined a league with a draft date of April 5th. As per CBS Sportsline rules, and I quote:
"After you become a Registered User, you may sign up and join a league anytime up to 11:59:59 PM ET on 7/20/2010. All leagues are required to have 10 participants, or team "owners." Opening day of the MLB...
Over the course of the year, I'll attempt to pop in here from time to time to lend some observations. They will primarily be about pitching, as that is the side of baseball that interests me most, however, there may be some hitting stuff thrown in from time to time too.
I certainly encourage...
Obviously Mr. Helton is coming to the twilight of his career and has put up some rather stout numbers.
Detractors will inevitably say these numbers were enhanced by the Coors effect.
What say the baseball forum?
Entering the 2009 season:
.328 lifetime average (top 35 all time)

Last night I was just reading some stats online. I was looking over the 1978 MVP voting, and while going down the line I came across a name I had never heard before.
So I clicked on that name, and was surprised to see only 4 major league seasons, and a seemingly promising young man who's...

He must have one incredible agent to have squeezed a two year, 4.55 million dollar deal out of the Rays in '05. I wish my son was left handed :kicksrock:
Is this trade objectionable? And if so, which side gets the better deal?
10 team - 5x5 mixed roto league (OBP, HR, RBI, Runs, SB, K, WHIP, ERA, W, S)

Alright, I'm in first place in one league....and Hamels was released about 2 weeks ago. Today I read that he may return next week, so I took a flier on him (really more of a block on someone else getting him).
Problem is, I have to drop someone in order to keep him. I have until Sunday to...
I understand two of these players still have some to go in their career, but taking into account all aspects of the game, which is the best player?
Feel free to discuss :hot:
I'm currently in 1st place in this league and I have yet to make a trade. Strike that, I've made two trades, but they were both rejected by the league. I guess they don't like seeing me strengthen my team or something.
Anyway, checked my inbox today and received the following:
Roger Clemens...
Standard 5x5 roto league
It looks pretty fair to me.....however, it seems all my trade attempts are one sided.
Team A receives:
Jason Bay
Khalil Greene
Dan Wheeler
Team B receives:
Ichiro Suzuki
Julio Lugo

Simple question. Guy played most of his prime in Japan. He'll be 33 this year, so figure maybe another 2-3 years at his current rate and then a decline. Didn't start playing in the Majors until he was 27 years old.
Currently brings the following to the table:
.332 lifetime average
1,130...
