Thanks for all of the glove advice. I have done the pulling back the fingers thing. The problem for me is that I like to carry my iPod in my hand (and yes I have an arm band holder but don't like to use it), so I need to keep my fingers extended. I know it's my own fault... Did some speedwork...

Been away from posting for awhile. had my first training run for my spring 1/2 marathon this morning. Not too bad getting up at 4:30 and running in 25 degree weather. Early morning running is way better than end of day running. Can someone please recommend a good pair of gloves? My Nike ones...

Awesome report gruecd and congrats again! Has anyone here run the Baltimore marathon or 1/2? Thoughts? Might look into that one for next October...

This was huge for me in my marathon training. I went out on my long runs with the notion of keeping my HR lower than 150-160 for as long as possible. I did not worry about what pace I was supposed to run. In the beginning of my training it meant I was doing 13m/m and I wanted to kill myself...

Finally back from finishing Chicago. Couldn't do a race report on a blackberry. IT WAS AN AWESOME EVENT/EXPERIENCE!!! I ran with a buddy of mine that I grew up with. This was his 6th marathon and he had run Chicago before. It was cold at the start. Probably pitched my long sleeve cotton...

Finished chicago! First marathon in the books. Finished in 5 hours which was a ok with me. Got stuck for 7 minutes at a pee break. Blasted through the last two miles though!

20 miler in the books!!! Officially taper time!!! Treated it like race day from breakfast to running gear. It was unbelievably easy. Last few miles of my 19 miler 2 weeks ago were a little rough, but today was almost effortless. Just found my rhythym and kept going. Listenting to Saturday Night...

Good luck to all of the racers this weekend!!! Did an easy 12 miles at 5am in the rain. 3+ months into training for Chicago and this was the first time I had to run in the rain. Can't complain. Felt pretty good actually...other than not being able to see through my glasses!! 20 miler next...

Nice work. Just a month to go until the Chicago Marathon!I run in the early AM to get it done before work and keep my kids on their normal schedule. I am usually out the door by 5 AM and it is VERY early, but it is nice and quiet and not too hot. I can handle running in cold, wind, rain, but...

Before training, I pretty much ran 3 miles 2 or 3 times a week and that was about it. I did get up to a 10 mile long run before my official training started. I am following Hal Higdon's Novice 2 program where the first long run was 8 miles.

Yep. I am training for my first marathon and when I started I was doing long S-L-O-W runs (8-10 miles)...and by slow I mean between 13-14 m/m. I wanted to kill myself b/c it was so slow, but I ran that "speed" to keep my HR as low as possible for as long as possible. Now, 3 months later, my...

Thanks to the crew for all of the massage info. I did check out a local place on Monday and I think I am definitely going to get a massage. My legs were still a little sore this morning from my 19 mile run on Sunday. I am wondering if I should get the massage after my 12 mile run this coming...

It's been awhile since I've posted...still on track with my marathon training. Did my 19 miler yesterday. Legs a little sore, but overall feel fine. Have a question about sports/leg massages...anyone get them? When do you typically get one in relation to your workout - same day? next day...

Can't wait to hear the Chicago race reports. Nice easy 11 miler yesterday. Can't believe how easy it is to go out and run 11 miles after 9 weeks of marathon training. It was like nothing. As far as time/speed go...I am slow and have no problem with it. My pace for my 11 miler yesterday was...

Well I PRed my 1st international race! A little funny to write that since I have never run a 5 mile race before and I am in Canada, so not really international :D I was shooting for 45 minutes and finished in 44:13. I was pleased with the time, but the run didn't seem to go very well. It...
