It's a good thing he's a basketball player and not someone who has to think for a living. The move here is to threaten to show up and tank if he's claimed. If he's just going to retire, he should get claimed by every team who has a shot to be competitive just so the Heat can't have him.
Let's see if they still love him when he is sitting on the sidelines in a suit for 60 games a year. I guess the Knicks are pretty sure his knees are going to hold up though.
I pretty much agree except for the bolded. Having faith in Amare's knees in the long run is going to be a losing proposition. I think his K is going to end up an albatross around that team. How much longer is he signed for? However if he can hold up for a year or so, they would have a chance to...
Nope. I'm on my way to work, but this is my reminder to look it up later. I'm 100% sure that at least LeBron signed a 3 year contract with a player option for the fourth year. The other guys may have signed the contract you suggest, but I'd be surprised if they did something different. I'm sure...
I think the (slight) distinction is that Durant re-signed for 5 years. I know the '03 class only signed 3 year contracts, but their reasons for doing that are pretty obvious.
The fad is the superteam. It's worked for the Celts and got tons of hype for the Heat. I wouldn't be shocked to see Paul in OKC. I'd definitely be excited as a basketball fan.
Here's Bill Simmons's amnesty article from a few months ago. I'm not sure it works like he proposes, but this might give you some idea of who teams should/will get rid of.
This depends on where you went. Although in your original scenario (working at an NPO) you could have IBR'd your loans, and had them paid off in 10 yrs at 15% of your income. So that would have been nice.
