2024 Las Vegas Raiders thread - Davante, we hardly knew ye (5 Viewers)

ooooohh, Payton Wilson, LB NC State?

Cripes, if the Raiders drafted a LB here, Raider Nation might set a new world record for simultaneous orgasm.

Crazy injury history. May be nothing. But likely the reason why he's still available. Good player, but how about the fully healthy Michigan LB instead.

PFF BIG BOARD RANK: 27
HEIGHT: 6' 3"
WEIGHT: 320
CLASS: Jr.
AGE: 21.2

Powers-Johnson possesses starting-caliber power and finesse traits at center or guard for both zone or man/gap-blocking concepts. He is dominant enough at his position to be considered a top-20 talent.

There just aren’t many holes in Powers-Johnson’s game, especially since he moved to center. He has complete positional versatility along the interior offensive line.

He has a fire hydrant-like build with short arms and a barrel chest/belly, but that build makes him powerful. He has the upper-body strength to bench-press 300-pound defensive linemen and the density to anchor quickly and effectively. He is light on his feet for his size, can climb to the second level and has good balance from his wrestling days.

Hopefully, he is the deterrent for Chris Jones.

Ok, one more CB to watch for...

Khyree Jackson

HEIGHT: 6' 3"
WEIGHT: 195
CLASS: Sr.
AGE: 24.7

Jackson is an alluring prospect because his size and athletic combination don't come around often. However, he must anticipate routes better and try not to rely on his recovery speed as much. If he can do this, he can be a starting-caliber cornerback.

...

Otherwise PFF showing WRs, RBs and Edge rushers as BPAs.

Writeup on Delmar Glaze from Emory Hunt

Strengths:
  • One of the first words to come to mind watching his tape is,solid. Just has good, all-around game for the position.Rarely do you see any busts.
  • Does a good job in displaying late, but active hands when dealing with pass rushers. Able to get them to show their cards first before going into a proactive attack.
  • Above average strength for the position to tangle at the point off attack.
Areas of Improvement:
  • Foot speed and quickness are just at about the average mark. Not terrible, but just meets expectations or the position.
  • There are times where he can be a bit too patient in deploying his hands, defenders can get him to kick slide to a point of depth in the backfield, leaving himself susceptible to inside counter moves.

PFF not a fan, but who TF is PFF?!? Coach AP looked fired up, so be it...

While he isn't a dominant run-blocker, two key things will attract NFL teams to Glaze as a prospect. He was a good pass-blocker in college (he earned an 80.0-plus PFF pass-blocking grade in each of the past two seasons), and he has played over 1,000 snaps at both tackle spots.

Hard to really tell at this point in the draft but Glazer might not have been the top player on their board. But maybe he is. Munford has some competition now.

OL Delmar Glaze Breakdown:- 6’4, 320- 21 years old - 2115 career snaps (1075 LT, 1038 RT, 2 RG)- 5 sacks, 34 pressures allowed (1280 attempts)- 4.9 ypc lead blocking- Career 83.6 PBLK Grade- Solid athlete, good movement skills and pure power- Nasty blocker, mean streak - Good leverage, hand pop, and latch ability - Quick feet, fluid hips- Pure power in run game, mauls EDGE and gets to 2nd level quick- Can struggle with speed rushers- Average twist and can be stiff at times- Average core strength Potential for Glaze to move to guard, will no doubt be a versatile developmental piece that can start. Refined player for age, fits well as a zone blocker. Could see the argument for a CB but with tackles going it’s not bad to take your guy. Notably ranks include 68th (CBS), 132 (Brugler), 108 (BR). Consensus 107th prospect

You guys got on me for Telesco comments previously, and I come in peace here. I will just observe two things:
  • IMO the first two Raiders picks in this draft may be better than the first two picks Telesco made in 11 drafts for the Chargers, with the only exception being the draft when he got Herbert, and that was obviously all about Herbert not two picks.
  • But one thing that consistently frustrated me about Telesco was reaching in the 3rd. I don't know much about Glaze, but the NFL Mock Draft DB (compiled from around 3000 sources) had him at #145. Now, that isn't necessarily meaningful. Just saying that it is a datapoint that shows it could be a reach.
Other than when the Raiders play the Chargers, I hope it works out.

Even tho most of my internal fibers are screaming about the 3rd pick, I choose to focus on the positives:

1. Telesco/AP seemingly crushed the first two picks with significantly higher-tiered BPAs. Refreshing.

2. They drafted three OL/TE with the first three picks. Yes that is a stretch with barely a TE Bowser, but still... Yay!

3. Coach AP seemed super fired up with the 3rd-rd OT reach. He's earned the right to reach a bit in the 3rd, even if it seems more than a bit.

Rooting for Glaze and AP. Prove us wrong, fellas!

I don't understand how Anthony Richardson was drafted top 5 last year and Joe Milton is being projected as a 5th rounder this year.

Final two years at Tennessee:

2022: Played in 9 games with 2 starts for the injured Hendon Hooker (53-82-64.6, 971 yards, 10 TDs passing; 18-77-4.3 rushing). Orange Bowl MVP (19-28, 251 yards, 3 TDs) in win over Clemson.
2023: Started 12 games (229-354-64.7, 2,813 yards, 20 TDs, 5 INTs passing; 78-299-3.8, 7 TDs rushing).

That's 37 Tds (30 passing) against 5 Ints (and 2 FL) last two years,

Along with this eye test... https://youtu.be/Mn-CkUDA4lM?si=AJkSQpY0DEdBmri4
Milton is extremely inaccurate.

The Tennessee game translates very poorly to the NFL game. The Vols general run 4 wides and run high-low routes. Mostly single read. Any success Milton had may have very well been because the system was so simple. Milton’s comp% at Mich was under 60%

And
Late round flyer, at best.

JPJ: great grand parents and grand parents were season tix holders and huge Raider fans. First NFL game ever attended was Raiders v. Niners.

"Immense amount of gratitude for the Raiders and Las Vegas and Raider Nation."

Seems like a great kid (man) with awesome Raider heritage. His profile had me hyped weeks ago reading up on these prospects and it's only better now between the Raiders picking him and his pop-pops and mee-maws long ago picking the Raiders!

According to Hondo, Glaze had a great Senior Bowl and responded well to NFL coaching. He’s also a swing tackle that they badly need after losing Elumoneur and everyone’s favorite Brandon Parker. So we’ll see, after hitting it out of the park with the first two picks, a slight reach in the 3rd is ok.

Raiders could take corner and RB today. TJ Tampa still out there and plenty of interesting RBs.
I wonder if they look at Rattler or Pratt as well if they want more QB competition.
I feel like taking a QB just because isnt a good strategy , there isnt anyone left thats better than what the Raiders already have at that position. They missed out on any QBs that would have made a difference, just work with who they have and concentrate on other areas the rest of the draft .

Raiders selected Maryland OT Delmar Glaze with the No. 77 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.
Glaze (6'4/315) was a steady presence on a Maryland line that saw plenty of turnover year-after-year and always seemed to be the weak spot on the offense. He primarily started at right tackle until his senior year when he slid over to the left side, as Glaze is the type of blocker that needs to work on the end by himself. When asked to tandem block or to block down on a defender, Glaze would often get lost or bumped off his block, which was apparent in the number of ways that opponents would run stunts at him. Though he has adequate 34.875” length arms, his height limits his ability to anchor and actively attack edge rushers. Glaze can often be seen catching rushers instead of taking the initiative to block them first and punch them off their timing. In the run game, Glaze can be lost in space, but is a bit more reliable at the point of attack because of his thick lower half with sufficient upper body strength. He may need to move to guard at some point, but the Raiders will give him a chance as a tackle before trying him inside.

The tall, fast CB that can’t cover…
Must have an Ouija board to ask Al which 40 yard dash he liked best.
He speed and athleticism will translate really well on special teams this year, while he is learning the game at CB.

Raiders selected Mississippi State CB Decamerion Richardson with the No. 112 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.
A two-year starter at Mississippi State, Richardson is a tall, long athlete who posted an elite 40-yard dash time of 4.34 seconds. He has a strong track background, setting the 100-meter-dash record back when he was in high school. That top-end speed allows him to stay with most receivers and also makeup ground if he gets beat early in a route. He’s also an outstanding run defender, with the mentality to finish a play and the technique to rarely miss tackles. He does struggle to find the football downfield with below-average skills to go up and make big plays when the ball is in the air. He can also play too handsy or physical at times, which could draw flags, but his athleticism makes him an intriguing pick at this part of the draft.

Overview

Two-year starting cornerback with outstanding physical features but below-average coverage features. He’s leggy with below-average lateral transitions and change of direction in space. Richardson doesn’t play with enough anticipation or short-area burst to make plays on the ball but does have a big make-up gear in a straight line. He’s OK as a tackler but should get better with a greater focus in that department. Richardson’s size and top-end speed will immediately garner attention, but he doesn’t appear to have the skill set to play safety and will be limited by a narrow scheme fit.

Pre-Draft Analysis

Richardson has the length, frame and speed to compete in press coverage. He had the second-quickest 10-yard split at the combine regardless of positon -- that burst is shown in his ability to recover and break on passes. Richardson reads the quarterback and splits high-low route combinations in zone looks. He's a reliable tackler who led all SEC corners in tackles in each of the past two seasons, and he is an aggressive run-defender who flashes a strong punch and slips blocks

Chris Simms loves this kid has him at the 5th CB in the draft

So there`s a general consensus that Brock Bowers demeanor when he arrived at Raiders headquarters was less enthusiastic than expected , and of course the internet GMs are all saying he doesnt want to be there . I watched the clips on Instagram and he IS very disengaged while meeting AP and Mark Davis . Could it just be his personality? is he overcome by the moment? Is he having some anxiety ? Its a stark comparison to Powers-Johnson`s reaction ,who seemed VERY happy ,making some great selfie videos saying hello to Raider Nation . Not reading to much into it, just conversation fodder .

He also stated in his presser that his family is all Niner fans, which means they are, or at least were probably Raider haters. Is what it is, kid. Be a professional now and have some gratitude and respect for your new team. He better get his head out of his *** on the quick.

Show me a comparison to his demeanor before in similar circumstances. Plus, he is a 21 year old kid.... who just got drafted in the NFL meeting these people.... that is a lot to take in.

Until someone shows me him being the king of the room with people he just met, I am not worried
