FFA Top 200 Horror Movies of All Time: #1 - Alien (8 Viewers)

The Black Phone

Finney Blake, a shy but clever 13-year-old boy, is abducted by a sadistic killer and trapped in a soundproof basement where screaming is of little use. When a disconnected phone on the wall begins to ring, Finney discovers that he can hear the voices of the killer's previous victims. And they are dead set on making sure that what happened to them doesn't happen to Finney.

Love this one (of course, as it's on my list). The 1970's Era adds so much to this, both as to its own environment as well as it being the genesis of the media reporting child abductions. Real or imagined, taps into the fears a lot of us had when we were that age.

A Tale of Two Sisters

I can't remember which was first between this and another I am sure will be in the top 200, but I equate this movie with me falling for foreign horror movies. It sucks it's not streaming anywhere, as I had to track down the 1 DVD in our library system for a rewatch this week. It was every bit as freaky, confusing, and messed up as I remember it being. I've recommended this one many times. What is it with this part of the world and scary bags that may or may not have bodies in them???

:scared:

After the rewatch, I think this one would be around #15 for me.

I absolutely LOVE the first half of this movie or so.
I do want to see it since people seem to like it but I was so disappointed by the book

Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon

Seriously, WTF greenlit that name? Terrible name, great underrated movie. Here we have movie based in a world were Freddy and Micheal are real, and a doc crew agrees to follow Leslie around as he trains and shows us some tricks of the slasher killer game. He is training to become the next big name in slashers. It's funny, it has some great cameos and references, and it is actually a good entry into the slasher genre.

Abbott and Costello Meet the Predator
What is the modern equivalent of Abbott and Costello? If there isn’t one, maybe it is time.
Hmmm...good question. We don't really have comedy teams like that anymore. It used to be pretty common: Abbot and Costello, Marx Brothers, Bing and Bob Hope, Cheech and Chong, Martin and Lewis. Nick Frost and Simon Pegg were pretty great together. Tina Fey and Amy Poehler as well.

Another recommendation for this. One of the most unique premises you'll find in horror and executed very well.

The box art didn't help it's cause either. It was a hard sell at the video store.

I haven’t watched this one specifically because of the box art. Will have to rectify that.

So much better than the American remake (and I usually like Elizabeth Banks).

Amazing the positioning of these Honorable Mentions on people's lists that didn't make the cut. Some really good flicks. Most have been ranked in the 20's and 30's I believe.

I was the only one to rank this so obviously I really like it. I think it did a great job retelling the story without overshadowing the original nor failing to live up to it. If you haven't seen it yet because you aren't sure of the whole remake/reboot thing, see it. See it now.

I'll take the claim on this one! Discovered it in high school as my friends and I would rent horror movies every weekend. The cover alone sold it and it was my introduction to Peter Jackson before LOTR fame. I have two of his other movies on my list as well. Just a goofy fun ridiculous movie that holds a special place in my childhood, of which I still quote "Mmmm, I got a chunky bit" quite often.

I definitely had a thing for Jennifer Love Hewitt back in the day, but she is a terrible actress. She and Freddie Prinze Jr graduated from the open mouth, confused stare school of dramatic arts. The killer makes no sense, but I went with it. I actually like the second one more because it embraces the bonkers, while this one tries to play it straight.

Not a fan of this one, though in terms of split personality movies, my favorite is probably Identity. That movie is nuts.

Hell yeah - Messiah of Evil, baby!!

Both 80s and I watched that last season and both really dug the weird, Lynchian atmosphere. I had never heard of the movie, but it was included in a discussion from The Pure Cinema podcast I was listening to.

Any good recommendations on movie podcasts? I've had a few over the years but none right now. I'm looking for something accessible, not too deep - willing to enjoy a fun movie rather than dissect it too much, willing to try to enjoy movies of all genres.

Identity was great.

Split was downright disturbing. Extremely well acted. I just did not care for the whole Mr Glass, Unbreakable tie in at the end. I don’t feel it made it better. It kinda cheapened it for me.
