FFA Top 200 Horror Movies of All Time: #1 - Alien (3 Viewers)

Not sure if the Babysitter is for me. Looks like an entire cast of annoying people.
I've considered it a few times but never committed. All things being equal, I'll sooner pass on a Netflix original movie than others, as they have some low-quality stuff. But if it made this list, I'll reconsider... again

Saw this as a kid on a Saturday afternoon when the local uhf station did the scfi and monster(Godzilla type) movies. This is one of a few that stuck with me especially when you enter the hideout. No spoilers. Good 50's B scifi flick.

Yep, watched it on "Creature Feature" back in the day.

Ok I’ll add this to my watchlist. I love those cheesy 50s sci fi flicks

Saw this back in the day with my great-grandfather. He loved these movies. Lived with him for a few months when I was 7. I saw a lot of cool, old movies with him. Not just creature features. He also really loved the comedy duos. Laurel and Hardy especially. That guy was cool.

The first "controversial" miniseries entry

I allowed these for a couple reasons. On IMDB there's not much distinguishing these from regular movies and just show as 3+hour movies if you didnt know any better. Also, I feel like the Stephen King miniseries of the 80s/90s were such a great niche subgenre in horror. It feels weird omitting them.

This is a mockumentary style found footage movie from Japan. What I love about this one is the sense of dread and feeling of unnerving I have while watching it. Hard to describe and this won't be for everyone, but I feel like it is genuinely scary which is a rare feat these days. There's a certain scene in the woods towards the end of the movie that has imagery I've had nightmares about.

I liked Dead Calm (not on my list, but I considered it), I've never heard of this one before, and it's on Prime. I think I'll try to give this a watch tonight or tomorrow.

If you need more of an endorsement it is 97% fresh on rotten tomatoes.

This is one of those movies that really shows the difference between RT and other review sites (and highlights why RT is flawed). Metacritic has it at 65.

That said, I do want to watch this one.

This is one of the King movies I mentioned with Children of the Corn that holds up well IMO. Pretty faithful to the book and James Mason was a marvelous villain.

Harpoon was a movie I had never heard of, but it was on Rotten Tomatoes list of top 200 horror films of all-time so I watched it. When I finished it, it was one of those experiences where I was just like "whoa".

Hell yeah - Messiah of Evil, baby!!

Both 80s and I watched that last season and both really dug the weird, Lynchian atmosphere. I had never heard of the movie, but it was included in a discussion from The Pure Cinema podcast I was listening to.
Any good recommendations on movie podcasts? I've had a few over the years but none right now. I'm looking for something accessible, not too deep - willing to enjoy a fun movie rather than dissect it too much, willing to try to enjoy movies of all genres.
@Tick

I posted about it before, but one that ties in well to our countdown is The Evolution of Horror. It's a British podcast so the accents are a plus, but what I love about it is that it does a deep dive on a genre in chronological order for 20+ episodes in a season. For example, their latest was Home Invasion, but they have also done stuff like vampires, Folk Horror, Ghosts, etc.. As far as just random ones I like stuff like The Rewatchables, Unspooled, The Cine Files, and The Big Picture. All have their +s and -s, but all have good things to say about movies and have a variety of movies they have watched. Another horror one is Colors of the Dark. That one is more what new ones are out, then they usually do a mini countdown of a subgenre or topic. I think a few of those @Ilov80s also listens to and can vouch for as well.

I am going to watch Terminator tonight and think more about that one. It feels like a call back to the discussion about movies like Se7en and Silence of the Lambs as to if it crosses over the boundary into horror or not. Btw, after more thought I am rounding on the opinion that Silence of the Lambs is horror and Se7en is about as close as a detective thriller gets to horror without being one.

I agree about Se7en. Silence of the Lambs is borderline. And while I had never thought of it that way, I fully buy Terminator as horror

Catching up from this weekend.

Mandy was very fun, one I would have never watched if not for here.

Skinarimick, no idea what was that was. The most terrifying thing about it was the legos all over the floor.

I loved her before this movie. This and the sequel are very fun movies.

Fyi, there is a remake of Invaders from Mars from the mid 80's, it sucks. The biggest issue is the kid actors who are terrible. It is so bad it isnt even funny.
