QB Joe Burrow, CIN (1 Viewer)

If the Bengals lose Sunday they will be 3-8 with a god awful defense and pretty much out of the playoff picture

Burrow is not 100% right now, the Bengals should be getting a top 5 pick in the draft
There is zero reason to play Burrow except he wants to play, which is not in the best interest of the franchise and it's future

Would be dumb to play Burrow at this point but the Bengals are dumb
Do you sit all the starters then?
No. Just maybe the most important guy to your franchise who is at an elevated risk of reinjury.

Why do the Chiefs ever sit Mahomes in the last week of the regular season?
Sitting last week is a lot different than sitting 1/3 of the season. Why dont all QBs sit out when their teams are out of it with 1/3 of season left.
Because not all franchise QBs are coming back from a significant injury with an increased risk of reinjury.

At the end of day idc what the Bengals do but there is a valid and logical argument to not running him out there once they admit their season is over.
If he is not considered recovered and they bring him back at 3-8, I agree. If the docs say he's good, different story.

Let's be real. Zac Taylor is letting Burrow play, even though it's almost certainly a lost season, because Taylor is coaching the rest of the season to keep his job.

And here I thought Burrow was playing because he was healthy and his job title is: Starting QB, CIN Bengals.

Eh. I could be wrong, and Zac Taylor wouldn't openly admit to it even if I was right. But I'm very curious to see if Burrow starts if/when the Bengals are officially eliminated from the playoffs.

Making the call between Burrow and

Dak (vs KC)
Purdy (@ Cle) - (Must Win for BYE)

Leaning toward keeping him in the bench this week in both.

Why wouldn't he? Players play. He must be itching to get back out there.

I will totally concede it's uncommon to state Zac Taylor is trying to save his job by letting Burrow play. However, It's not "off the wall" to question why Burrow is playing with a plate in his foot, behind a bad offensive line, given his injury history, and given the Bengals' extremely low odds of making the playoffs. Many analysts, pundits, fans, and media have wondered the same.

I understand the concept of "shutting players down for the year"... but I can't really recall (off the top of my head) when it has actually happened. Six games left. That's a lot of football.

Tbh, I can't recall a franchise QB being shut down for the year when he was medically cleared. But I also can't recall a QB that was this vital to a team's success, that had this significant of an injury history, playing in meaningless games, while possibly risking re-injury (but I'm not a doctor.) Can you?

I wouldn't be surprised to see Burrow start the next two games, but if they get clobbered and he's getting beat up they may pull the plug at that point "to take a look at other players."

Honestly, I think the Bengals can win this division. It's a long shot, but the Ravens will probably need 30-35 points to beat them... and don't think they have it in them. Lamar looks really limited. Same for the Steelers.

As I said, six games is a lot of football.

He's not healthy and shouldn't be playing.

Thanks Doc. Guess I'm trotting Flacco out there on Thanksgiving.

Of course you're not. That doesn't change his health status. The recovery timeline for this injury is 3-4 months. It's been closer to 2 months than 3. He's not healthy. He's out there because an injured Joe Burrow gives Zac Taylor a better chance to keep his job than an injured Joe Flacco.

Guess we'll see.

Kind of remember the word was that he would be back around this time when he first got injured... and here he comes. Healthy enough.

If you have Burrow then you play him in most cases. You drafted him high for a reason and it wasn't to wait and see.
While I agree for the most part, I'll play Stafford over him. Just one example of two where I won't play Burrow and I only have two shares.. The other one being Josh Allen.

Drafted him in one league, gets hurt, screws me over badly. everything says out for season or may be able to come back at the end of season if lucky
I drop him.....out of no where starts to practice, he gets picked up by team with higher free agent position and I get screwed by him

I got lucky and have had Stafford but still am starting to despise Burrow, part of me hopes he gets reinjured for screwing me
Now will have to probably face him in playoffs and am sure he will knock me out

I drafted him two years ago when he also got hurt and went out for the season, screwed me over then also
The vibe of this board, 25+ years in the making, is, among other things, at least two things. One, don't root for players to get hurt. The fact that you're doing so out of vengeance is a particular and lame kind of petty. And by the way, everything did NOT say "out for the season" and back if lucky. Is he ahead of schedule? Yes, but most media I read was along the lines of try to play .500 ball and see if Joe can win a few at the end to get them in the playoffs.

Two, few around here GAF about your team. Few care when you drafted him, who you have as a backup, and whether an opponent will play him against you.

I'm guessing you're young, maybe born before this board was formed. That's all good. Welcome. Now stop whining and figure out Plan B.

Clarity matters.

We get this wrong too sometimes.

The news blurb headline read: "Bengals QB Joe Burrow said he’s not going to play in Week 13 and beyond “scared” of further injuries."

What it's actually saying is that Bengals QB Joe Burrow IS going to play in Week 13, and he's NOT beyond scared of further injuries.
Isn't it saying "He's not going to be scared of further injuries, while playing in Week 13 and beyond"? Very troublesome grammar, haha. Like if I said "I'm not gonna go on that flight all worried about the inexperience of the pilot." The only thing stated is a way that I'm not going. But the implication is that I am going, just not that way.

I know that's basically how you clarified it but you have "beyond" in with the "scared" clause, and I'm pretty sure it's referring to the timeframe.
