QB Joe Burrow, CIN (9 Viewers)

I don't really get the "the Bengals FO has done Burrow a disservice" argument. They've done exactly what he's wanted every step of the way. They extended Chase and Higgins, brought in Gesicki, signed Orlando Brown (who was a "pro bowler" in KC) they spent a 1st on a RT, and a 2nd on a LG, and signed 2 decently priced interior OL vets. All of that is in the last 3 seasons.

They've tried to fix their issues on defense too. They kept Henderickson, they spent 2 1sts on edge rushers in the last 3 years, they've been active in FA. Sure, its not working, but the idea that they are just wasting Burrow's career and not trying to make things work is ludicrous. The only thing I could see as an argument, is they could (and in my opinion, should) fire Zac Taylor.

They need offensive linemen and a defense that doesnt give up more points than Burrow can put up. So just under 40ish

Fair points, could've mentioned drafting Chase over Sewell as well.

Anybody see his press conference from December 10th?

Just bummed?

The next Carson Palmer or Andrew Luck?

IIRC This isn’t the first time he’s mentioned this. I think he’s been hinting since coming out of college.

He says that but comes back behind that line every chance he gets.

It's often about a combination of personal and professional goals. If you're an elite NFL athlete... the "triple crown" must be - get the money bag, win a ring, and HOF. We've seen plenty of guys that get one early and pursue the other after. Burrow is ripe for 2/3 and the ring may look unattainable in his current situation.

I'm just speculating of course but if that is his view... put yourself in his place... options are; walk away and enjoy your millions (Andrew Luck), retire/force a trade (Carson Palmer), or make so much noise that the team is (almost) forced to trade you (many).

Possible that it's a cry for help to CIN front office to build a better team around him... but it feels to me like rip, s***, or bust... right now Burrow is looking at playing for somebody else in 2026 or not playing at all.

HOF? Hes played like 6 injury riddled seasons and barely above 500 as a starter.
"Ripe" I said... we don't hand out gold jackets until after retirement.

Been going down this rabbit hole and I’ve come to the following conclusions:

Burrow made an off-handed comment about not having fun (he missed 9 games with injury and threw 2 critical picks against the Bills) and Rappaport tweeted some nonsense about how “if he demands a trade” that “teams would be interested”

He also said he knows this from texting with them. Lmao

No ****, really Ian?

In other breaking news, water is wet and the sun rises in the East.

From the Bengals standpoint, he’s under contract until 2029, and remains an elite asset at the position.

Things that would make Joe Burrow have more fun:
• using high draft picks on OL & defense
• winning games
• staying healthy

Incredibly, all of those are doable.

Meanwhile, Burrow has not demanded a trade, yet everyone is making it a story based on Rappaport’s tweet, not anything Burrow actually said.

Gigantic nothing burger, IMO.

Yeah I'm with ya here. I will concede it's not often you hear a franchise QB be that honest in a press conference about how badly it all sucks. But the sun will rise tomorrow.

Meanwhile everyone with a blog or TikTok account is running around like their heads are on fire. Sports talk radio awash with speculation. Listening to 95.7 the game Bonte is talking about sending Purdy + 2x 1sts for Burrow.

Cmon man.

And yet there are people who lap this crap up like it came from the word of God (not Ian), and then will get upset at their GM for not trading for him.

Yeah. As much as he breaks news, the dude breaks a lot of wind, too.

IMO he’s one of the worst examples of the enshittification of the news cycle. One of the pioneers of the “better to be first than right” styles of reporting, which is a hallmark of the internet age.

Just zero integrity, yet somehow maintains credibility.

Didn't Burrow want Chase? Or was he publicly boxed in because it was his ex-teammate? Actually, I suppose I could look that up! We won't know with certainty until there's a change in conditions, but tea leaves will give us a clue.

Either way, I don't think taking Chase over Sewell hurt Burrow at all.

I think it's debatable, but you're probably going to know the different twists and turns that happened with the roster better than I remember.

I believe he did, I was agreeing with the point of doing a lot of what Burrow wanted.

Yeah, I thought that was pretty clear given your wording.

Yeah, it was very clear. I read the "Fair points," and I was hyper-quick to think it was akin to how one sees "That said," where "That said" acts as a device where its insertion is the beginning of and separation between two blocks of text, the second string of which will go on to contradict the first string. Similarly, when I see the phrase, "Fair points," I usually then immediately see that as a concession or an agreement with the first speaker en toto (when left as "fair points" with those being the only two words) or an agreement with one of his points that is often *followed by a statement including an example and what distinguishes or makes it different from the original point or by giving an example that is an exception to the point.

The "as well" in this case plus the singular example that followed should have been my wake-up call. "As well" can be ambiguous and might also follow a series of counterexamples. There was no series; however, and he's clearly agreeing with travdogg. I was probably just tired. Sorry, Mitchie.

Oh yeah, could've been a "Fair points, but on the other hand, this over here also", when it was more of a "Fair points, and not only that but this over here also."

Extreme cold for this weeks game.
Ball is going to be hard as a rock. Makes it harder to throw n catch
Down grade every player in this game , accept rbs . imo

Much harder to kick field goals in extreme cold.

I saw Burrow's presser. Didn't really strike me as just an off-handed comment. It was extended and he addressed a follow-up question.

Now it could be just "in the moment"... maybe 1-2 days later would have been a different vibe, but I just saw a stat that he's player fewer games than Andrew Luck, but has been sacked 13 times more.

There's no way of telling "who" Burrow discusses things with outside of the facility, but let's just say for sake of argument that he had these thoughts and reached out to Carson Palmer for advice... :ponder:

I've got Burrow and Matt Stafford, and going with Matt due to weather concerns in Baltimore.

Rams v. Lions should be a shoot-out.
Games in Cincy but it's still going to be in the teens, windchill approaching 0.

and that's really 2 playoff appearances in 3 years that he's been healthy. Injury prone, absolutely... the years he's played, worth the hype.
