47 People Shot - 9 Dead in Chicago (1 Viewer)

Once it gets warm out at night the shootings start up again.

12 killed, 60 shot over 4th of July weekend.
Batting .200. They're like the Adam Dunn's of murder attempts.
They are actually batting .166 (I think you are either shot or killed). But those 12 hits were homers, so yeah, just like Dunn.
That could be. Regardless, it's an awful situation.
I agree, and the worst part is that of the 72 people hit by a bullet, I am guessing maybe 10-15 of them were the actual intended target. There were 2 kids under 7, a handful of people over 60. And at least one of the shootings was in the middle of the afternoon. It used to be most of the shootings were in the middle of the night, now people are getting shot at 3:30 on a sunday afternoon.

Plenty of street fighting trained soldiers back from Iraq and coming back from Afganastan. Put a platoon on the South Side and see what happens. My guess is these "insurgents" would be a little less trigger happy with trained military personnel standing on the corner with a M-16.

It worked in the Middle East, why not? Maybe we just save military lives and move to drone strikes on probable gang hangouts.

Well when you can move 5 minutes outside the city and get a gun, I think it would be pretty obvious. But that's just me.

I'd be interested in what the local cops feel is the reason for the increase. I would assume it can be tied to a specific conflict.

What happened to Christo's Chicago shooting thread from last year?
It became tiring keeping track of all of the dead bodies. This place is like Beirut in the 80s.

A few weeks back I read that over half of the murders are thought to be linked directly or indirectly to the Gangster Disciples.

martial law would be neat

1 part summer

1 part fracturing of once well organized larger gangs in to more localized neighborhood gangs

1 part tearing down the projects and forcing people in to new neighborhoods where well established groups already live

there's a feud in Englewood/West Englewood at current.. lots of shootings there. though there always have been.. but a lot more in the farther south avenues and suburbs because of the projects coming down.

I hadn't thought of that....great idea!

They do?
They did. Governor just got pVVn3d and overridden by the legislature on his line-item veto with their current CCW bill. :lmao:
Illinois does not have state preemption of firearm laws. Local gun control ordinances remain in effect.
So what are the strict local gun control ordinances that are being referred to here?

They were. And the local politicos were tooting their horns on a weekly basis about it until the #### hit the fan.

Meet one of the morons in charge of Illinois:

State Rep.: 'Maybe the Police Are Killing Some of These Kids'

An Illinois state representative has pointed a finger at Chicago police officers, claiming they might be the culprits in a number of unsolved murders of black youths in Chicago.

State Rep. Monique Davis made the statement while being interviewed about Chicago violence Tuesday on WCHB-AM in Detroit.

“I’m going to tell you what some suspicions have been and what people have whispered to me. They’re not sure that black people are shooting all of these children,” she said. “There’s some suspicion, and I don’t want to spread this, but I’m just going to tell you what I’ve been hearing: They suspect maybe the police are killing some of these kids.”

"There has been a lot of weird things going on and i'll be honest and tell you, I, as you've stated, I am truly outraged," Davis said.

Director of Chicago Police News Affairs Adam Collins replied to Davis' comment stating: “The men and women of Chicago Police Department work tirelessly every day to keep our city safe. These comments are so outrageous and baseless that they do not merit any comment.”

In a Friday release, however, Davis commended Chicago Police for their efforts.

“Our law enforcement officials are working hard to keep our streets safe," she said in a statement. "I commend the men and women who serve bravely to protect our neighborhoods."

Davis spoke Friday regarding her comment where she said she doesn't know the reason behind the unsolved murders. "I'm not a detective, I'm not an investigator," she said. "I said my community, many people in my community, based upon their experiences and their knowledge, believe it is possible that some of these murders are committed by our finest. Now, we can’t say that doesn’t happen.

"It's time to make it known. It's time to stop being quiet," she added.

Davis spoke out on the city's violence earlier this month when she publicly asked Governor Pat Quinn to call in the National Guard to assist with Chicago's growing violence, NBC News reported.

Twelve men were killed and at least 60 others were wounded in shootings during the Fourth of July weekend, including two boys shot and injured within hours at city parks.

Chicago Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy released a statement on the weekend's violence stating "no shooting or murder is acceptable."

"While to date we've had significantly fewer shootings and significantly fewer murders this year, there's more work to be done and we won't rest until everyone in Chicago enjoys the same sense of safety," McCarthy said in the statement.

I thought crime and murders were way down this year before the heat of summer hit.
It was unusually warm in Spring 2012, thus murders spiked early last year. It was much colder in Spring 2013, thus murders were down year-over-year for January-May 2013.

Unfortunately, the media struggles with basic math and statistics, thus nobody reports on the above correlation.

I heard this stupid ####### ##### on the news last night. She represents all that is wrong in her neighborhoods. Instead of leading she makes ludicrous accusations. Chicago uses an inordinate amount of its resources on neighborhoods like hers and, if we didn't have to, we would have more money to spend on things like education for everyone's children. People like her need to be replaced ASAP.

I don’t want to spread this, but I’m just going to tell you what I’ve been hearing:
she said she wasn't spreading it

That same night, MSNBC journalist and commentator Keith Olbermann, on his show Countdown, declared Davis the "Worst Person in the World,"[16][17] calling on Davis to either apologize or resign.[11]
