Don't sleep on Donte Moncrief: Draft Day steal (2 Viewers)

Guy in my league who I consider to be a very savvy owner just dropped moncrief. Is this guy worth a pickup? Looking at his stats it seems he hasn't do much for the last month or more.
He catches the ball with his body so he needs a very accurate pass thrown his way. i.e., he's mediocre.

This can be summed up fairly easily, to be honest.

If Luck is playing and doing extremely well , and its pass pass pass.........then Moncrief is WR2-ish.

If Luck is out and they have an old man throwing the ball, then Moncrief is vomit-ish.

I can see it if you are desperate, but its a bad scenario to have to depend on production.

(especially considering most are in fantasy playoff races)

Team high in targets last week which should've been expected since Hilton had a tough matchup. He's been good in the RZ all season had a couple of targets in the EZ last week. Of his 5 catches, 4 went for first downs on short-yardage plays (which explains the low YPC), including three on third-and-short situations. So Hasselbeck trusts him in key spots.

I think he lacks the Top 20-25 upside he carried with Luck but is still a strong WR3 in PPR with Hasselbeck. Given his RZ production I like his TD potential when the matchup is favorable, like this one this week. The Bucs have allowed at least one WR TD in every game but one this season.

I dropped him last week for K Martin.....#1 seed and looking towards the playoffs.

AJ, Decker, Cobb, M Bryant give me the flexibly

He has been on and off my roster all season in a few shallower leagues.

In my main league, in which we keep five players from year to year, I was pleased to land him in a trade back around Week 4.

I held on for some time, but just can't see myself using him much, even if I make the playoffs.

We start 2-3 receivers each week. I had Demaryius Thomas, Allen Robinson, Martavis Bryant, John Brown and Donte Moncrief.

Last week, I cut Moncrief and picked up Tyler Lockett.

At this juncture, I like Lockett more than Moncrief for the coming weeks. I could very well regret that thought after Sunday.

I also currently like Lockett more than Moncrief as a potential keeper, though it is not likely I would keep either. As Moncrief has a good shot at being #2 on the Colts and Lockett is stuck in Seattle, this might seem odd. But, I've just not seen it all come together for Moncrief just yet. Lockett, OTOH, is an unknown. In that blank spece where I see his future, I can imagine all sorts of good things.

Moncrief is on the wire in my main league.

He is still on the wire in all my short bench leagues.

He could yet hit this season, get real hot.

But ... he has shown me so many poor weeks that it'd be hard to trust him at any point.

To my mind, Moncrief is rosterable in maybe 50% of fantasy leagues, the deeper 50% of leagues.

Only 3 games under 9 points in PPR all season and one of those was Andre Johnson's return to Houston game which clearly looks to be an outlier in my opinion. Moncrief's upside is capped without Luck but he's a pretty reliable WR3 in PPR with good TD potential due to his Red Zone work this season. If he's on my league's Waiver Wire I'd be looking to scoop him up immediately. Hey may not carry immense upside without Luck but he's far less likely to hurt you if you need to start him than a complete swing for the fences type of WR will be.

What do people think of Moncrief long term for dynasty/keeper purposes.

AJ has to be gone after this year while Dorsett, who hasn't shown much this and hasn't been healthy, should still be in the mix.

I traded him essentially for KB.

Gio, Moncrief, Ginn for Charc, KB, DCobb.

Then Charc got hurt the day of the trade. If he comes back as bell cow for the cushy playoff schedule I don't think I'll miss donte much.

He is player to target IMO as he may not be this cheap again. Assuming Luck's performance issues were injury related (rather than a loss of confidence) Moncrief will be the #2 WR going forward with one of the best QBs in the league. Even if Dorsett is in the mix, Moncrief should still put up solid weekly numbers.

I'm thinking of dropping him in my 16-team, 0.5 PPR league to pick up a second D. Now that we're past bye weeks, it doesn't seem likely I'll start him again. He's had one stud game all year and a few decent ones. Hard to trust.

I wouldn't in a 16 teamer. Hard to find depth down the road. And he's only a 2nd year guy.

If redraft I suspect it was because of the prospect of him playing with Hasselbeck and not Luck. I think DM looks great but the offense is totally different with Hass.

Luck's 2014 is what people assumed would be a baseline going forward. 600+ attempts, 4500 yards, and 40 TDs. That's not all that far off from his 16 game pace this year. In 2014, the breakdown of catches by position was:

RB: 94

TE: 98

WR: 217

Fleener and Allen are both free agents. Bradshaw and Gore are older. Reggie Wayne is gone. Andre Johnson could easily be gone. You have to think that the WRs are going to get a much bigger share of the targets than in past years.

In the 7 games Luck has played this year, Moncrief has 32 catches, 54 targets, 351 yards, 5 TDs. That's a 16 game pace of 73 catches, 123 targets, 802 yards, 11 TDs. I don't think it's at all unreasonable to think next year Moncrief puts up 70+ catches, approaches 1,000 yards, and gets 8-10 TDs, which is a top 20 WR in PPR.

Moncrief just turned 22 in August. That's super, super young. It's younger than Dorsett, Kevin White, DeVante Parker, and Agholor. Great opportunity to buy right now.

I believe Moncrief was just outside the Top 20 in PPR among WRs when Luck suffered his latest injury. It's not unrealistic to believe that if Luck had stayed healthy he could have finished this season among the Top 20.

Should have clarified this is redraft. Agree he's a good prospect for next year if Luck comes back healthy and regains his 2014 form.

Not asking this in an Assistant Coach-type way, just curious: The end of my bench is currently Hill, Jordan Matthews, Stevie Johnson and Aiken. Would you drop any of those guys before Moncrief? Because I wouldn't.

I'd be debating long and hard with myself between Moncreif and Matthews, and would probably cut Jordan first, to be honest. PHI offense just lacks the potential that Indy offense does, and seems to be coming unglued. At least Indy is in a playoff hunt.

Matthews is un-rosterable.

Well, this is a pickle.

Trying not to be swayed by recency bias, but it's certainly hard to ignore 8/114. I didn't watch the game, but from what I hear he looked good. And there's still that playoff schedule to consider (Houston doesn't look like as enticing a match-up as it did earlier in the season, but Jax/Miami in Weeks 14/16 still look pretty good).

Anyway, I've got some thinking to do -- maybe I don't add that second D after all (I have the Jets). But yeah, I'm probably not dropping him at this point.

Donte Moncrief underwent turf toe surgery earlier this offseason, but it is not considered a long-term concern.
Moncrief dealt with the issue for much of December before apparently making it worse in Week 17. We already knew Moncrief was sidelined, but the operation had not been previously disclosed. It's unideal, but it appears the Colts are just being overly cautious with their third-year wideout. Moncrief is on the breakout radar after taking a big step forward last season. He should get back to 100 percent well before training camp.

If anything , this is a good thing. He will come back healthy for training camp. I see him as a top 12 WR with a healthy Luck.

Maybe, it's the White Russians talking, however I really see him dominating in the AFC South. While the division's Defenses should be better then last year, the secondary's are still suspect.  I just really like his size and I see Hilton and Dorsett helping him to get more open.

Donte Moncrief has shed his walking boot following offseason toe surgery.
He's sitting out OTAs, but beat writer George Bremer confirmed Moncrief is expected to be ready for training camp. Moncrief was still donning the boot a week ago at OTAs. He has breakout potential with Andrew Luck back healthy.

Donte Moncrief (toe) tweeted Thursday he has resumed running routes.
Moncrief did not participate in the offseason program, but he shed his walking boot last week and how now progressed to running routes. He is fully expected to be ready for the start of training camp. With Andrew Luck back healthy, Moncrief is poised for a breakout.

ESPN Colts reporter Mike Wells believes Donte Moncrief will lead the team in receptions this season.
Moncrief only saw 11 fewer targets than T.Y. Hilton in Andrew Luck's seven starts last year and led the Colts in touchdowns (5) in those games. This may seem like a beat writer "hot take" on the surface, but it's not crazy with Moncrief a prime candidate for a third-year leap. The Colts lost 222 targets from 2015.

The hype is off the charts for Moncrief right now.  Higher than Elliot if you can believe that.

i won't be over paying for him in my redraft league but definitely would welcome him with open arms in Dyno.

Right? I just saw him go for 11% in a ppr redraft auction ($22). For reference, Hilton was $29, Marshall $26, Floyd, Decker, Edelman, and K Benjamin all went for $17. I could see him being a breakout star, but I can also see that being way too much auction budget for him. The hype... it is out of control.

It is dangerous to pay the price for Moncrief he costs today.  You're paying as if he has arrived as WR1 in Indy (with a pre-2015 Luck).

It might be dangerous to over pay a touch now, but at this stage if you believe in what he is capable of doing what alternative do you have? The time to buy him was last year in dynasty leagues.

Redraft .... If moncrief, Fitzgerald, Edelman and E. Sanders on the board I'm going

fitz

sanders

edelman

moncrief

Donte Moncrief says he is currently running a 4.35 forty-yard dash at 222 pounds.
'Crief blazed 4.40 flat at the 2014 Combine after weighing in at 6-foot-2, 221. While beat writer George Bremer says Moncrief is emerging as "something of a go-to guy in short-yardage situations," Moncrief assures he can beat defenses deep. "That's what they're sleeping on," Moncrief said. "But they'll learn soon." Bremer calls Moncrief the Colts' "likely breakout candidate" this season.

Can we say Moncrief is still 'undervalued'? Doesn't sound like it.

I do think Chudzinzki as OC installing his own offense will mean more than enough to go around for Hilton, Moncrief, Dorsett and Allen.

I also don't think those Andre numbers just disappear because he's not there, Dorsett is developing. And I think Allen will be a red zone target. Also IMO Moncrief is not a spectacular playmaker, that's still Hilton.

#2 on Indy imo..........When Luck was playing last year T.Y. had 74 targets in 7 games. Moncrief had 55. It should be lots of the same this year. Don't see him passing T.Y. for targets.

That's not to say he can't have a great year as Indy's #2 but he'll be more TD dependent.

An extreme example is Moncrief is the Reggie Wayne (underneath, some outside), to T.Y.'s Marvin Harrison.  Both can be really really good.
