Aldon Smith (1 Viewer)

Well in his third game back he was on the field plenty, but totally sucked. I watched him get pushed way out and then he stopped trying, even though the play was not over, if I were him I'd be embarrassed over the way I played and the lack effort.

Yeah, he was bad yesterday. But he was good the first two games and he's playing around 80-90% of snaps so far this season. I don't focus on pass rushing LBs for fantasy but if you do he's one of the most productive when it comes to sacks. He doesn't offer much else though so he'll be constantly up and down. I like to use Football Outsiders offensive line statistics in order to gauge how well I can expect my pass rushers to perform in any given matchup. The metric they use is Adjusted Sack Rate; sacks per pass attempt adjusted for down, distance and opponent. In addition to that I'll take into account any injuries to the offensive line or other recent changes to the lineup, as well as predicted gameflow. But gameflow is generally more of a tie-breaker for me rather than a dominant factor.

Yeah, and what's sad is my LB'ers are really deep, David, Marshall, Collins, D. Smith, V. Miller, Hali, A. Smith, Clay Matthews, I generally go with David, Marshall, Von and then rotate that last guy. I usually just have one rush lb in my lineup, and normally that is Von, but made the mistake of switching at kickoff and then watched Smith suck. What pissed me off was his lack of effort once he got blocked. There were some plays I think if he had hustled he could have had a sack or at least a couple tackles, but he stopped and couldn't catch back up.

I have a solid core of LB's and my scoring system is 8 pts per sack and 1 pt per tackle. That makes guys like Smith very valuable if you surround with high tackle guys. I have Justin Houston, Aldon Smith, Marshall, Jenkins, Keenan Robinson and they all have had good seasons. It's a matter of mix and matching. I can play three LB's and I like to go with two sack guys and one tackle guy due to my scoring.

Oh wow, yes that is very sack heavy. If you hit with that scoring you've pretty much won your week. All my nine leagues score sacks/tackles 3/1, 4/1.5, 4/2, or 5/1.5. But some of them have higher scoring for DLs: 6/2 or 5/2.5, and some of them have points for sack yards so that it's slightly higher.

Great insights in this thread. Thanks for the content fellas.

I too have a decent stable of LBrs but with this weeks injury reports I'm leaning toward benching Keenan Robinson in favor of a backup. I like Aldon's upside and was leaning that way but you guys now have me nervous. You like Smith over Peppers, David Harris and James Thomas?
