Apple Watch (1 Viewer)

Is anybody getting one of these things? I was waiting for the Jawbone Up3 fitness tracker, but the complete lack of updates on when the thing will be released (delayed from late 2014/early 2015) has me worried that it's not ready for prime time. I see that the apple watch is coming out in April and has what seems to be a pretty robust fitness tracker along with a slew of other functions.

The Microsoft band looks interesting but it's not water resistant, comfort seems to be an issue, and some of its functions apparently can be buggy.

I'm thinking about thinking about one. When they first came out with the prospect, the cost was much lower and made me more interested. Not sure if I can swing $300-$500 for a watch!

Most of the iwatch fitness tracker features are removed. They couldn't make them work, or else FDA stepped in and said no. I'd wait for jawbone.

Ive wondered just about the smartwatches in general...not just the Apple.

Have been reading about the Samsungs (have a Galaxy S5)...the Sony 3 and so on.

Probably going more fitness route though and waiting on the Garmin VivoActive as I do run and am looking at its features for that and other activities over what most of the smart watch makers are doing.

Part of what I am looking for is the ability to walk around my house without carrying my iPhone. Being able to see texts and emails (at least sender and subject) to keep me up to date.

I am... I'm a sucker for buying new things when they come out. I actually have a nice watch collection, but maybe this will be like a gym and run around kinda thing.

No interest in one. If I received one for a gift, I'd take it back or regift it. At this time, I don't see a "need" for one.

Planning on buying the Garmin Vivoactive when its released...

http://www.amazon.com/Garmin-Vivoactive-Black-bundle-Monitor/dp/B00RE1UK7G/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1424310878

My primary need is to replace my old Garmin GPS and HR monitor.

I've heard all kinds of issues with the built in HR sensors so sticking with a HR strap.

I figure if I like it, the notifications, etc I'll even wear it when I'm not working out.

As far as the Apple watch goes, battery life was a killer to begin with and now it sounds like they neutered a bunch of the planned functionality too. These will be the true mark of the Apple Fanboys.

First my ObamaCare thread which was started a year before another and now this one started two years later than the iWatch thread lol. Just find it funny.

I'm torn between these two responses. I'm a sucker for gadgets, and Apple has repeatedly found ways to introduce cool things to which people's first reaction is "why the hell would I need that?" and their second reaction is to go out and buy one 6 months later and wonder how they ever lived without it (see, e.g., iPad). That said, I don't think this is quite iPad-level innovation given all the smart watches already out there. But I may be very wrong.

While the Sport’s box isn’t low quality by any means, there’s something about Apple Watch’s presentation that makes the extra bit of money seem worth it.
:lmao:

I just can't get excited about this, and i'm usually always an early adopter on apple products. The fact you have to have the phone with to use most of the features is a huge drawback.

As an apple stock holder, I encourage everyone to buy 5.

But personally, it's too boxy and ugly to ever replace my Citizen.

Agreed on these. Saw one the other day on a friend and can't figure. His main reason was the AW would show time zone changes when he traveled, seems expensive for this.

The winner of this race will make a disc that can stick to the underside of any other watch. Watches can be statements/status symbols that a lot of people won't give up - myself included.

Watches are the new top hat.

Came into some $$$ for winning a pool based on picking NFL games that my dad runs, and was thinking of finally buying an Apple Watch. Anyone have one and happy with it? Do you have a Version 2? How about the two different sizes?

Got my first one a couple months ago. Series 2 and I'm a guy so the larger one. It's been nice. Looks cool and frees me up from having my phone on me all the time. I still need to dive into more apps for it but I like it.

Thanks!

I'm a guy too, but my arms aren't too big, so I'm going back and forth on the size...

I have a 42mm one and I'm happy with that...larger screen size and I have medium wrists so I could've gone either way, but the larger screen size is worth it and you won't notice size once you get used to it.

I have a version 2 but don't really use much of the GPS functionality.  The battery life is better than gen 1 though.

The main things I use it for are getting notifications from my phone during they day, controlling audiobook playback, and quick interactions with siri like "Set a timer for 20 minutes" or "remind me to take out the trash at 9pm tonight" or "Send a message to my wife and tell her to make me a sandwich".

It also reminds me/nags me to be active, which helps during long days of sitting in front of the computer and now that I have airpods, it's really useful to control volume, playback, and take calls with them.

So it's more of a peripheral device, like most would guess, but I haven't met too many heavy users of it beyond what I describe, and maybe more serious usage of the fitness apps for tracking runs, using GPS, and so on.

But highly recommend the bigger version for guys.

Breaking down and Getting a 42mm Series 2 this week. Primarily using for fitness related stuff... but notifications/etc will be nice too Im assuming.

I got the 42mm series 2 watch for the same basic reasons.  I like it so far even if I'm not using its full functionality yet.

Trying to decide between this and the Fitbit Alta for the wife. Anyone think the iwatch is too bulky?

No idea really. Coworker had one and I started considering getting one over the Fitbit ?

My daughter wants one for Christmas.

She can't carry her phone when she's working so she would use it for "urgent issues" texting.

I know nothing about them. I see there seems to be a Series 3, a Series 4.

Any suggestions on the best way to go?

I am no expert, but I don't believe the 4 will have many advantages over the 3 and there are a few good black Friday deals on them at Macy's and maybe Target.
Thanks, Jon. I’m getting my wife a series 3 and just saw Macy’s has them for $199

The 4 adds some MAJOR features for many, starting with an on board ECG.

Macy's is already out of stock on the 38 mm.

Work supplemented mine for the health tracking stuff. Have the 3. Will probably upgrade to the 4 this holiday season. Never really wore a watch before this thing, I like it.

Apple is buying back on the old ones at a pretty good price if you buy the new one so I think they would have a lot of refurbs for sale if people don’t mind that.

You’d have to get at least series 3 and get the ones that have the ability to do that (they sell versions that are cheaper that don’t have stand alone data plans).

Also have to add a data plan. For me that is around 10 a month.
