***Official 2017 Kansas City Royals Thread - Potential Fire Sale Season*** (1 Viewer)

In Dallas so I can't watch the game.

TWO Inside the park home runs? Looking for Sports Center.

Dyson has had quite a night. Checked in for Gordon in the 4th after Gotdon got carted off. Threw a guy out at the plate, then hit an inside-the-park dinger.

So....anyone else a Royals fan?
Sure are fun to watch. I grew up a Cardinals fan and still am, but I've lived in Royals territory for about 12 years and have assimilated. I am surrounded by Royals fans who do not hesitate to bring up 1985 when they hear I am a Cards man. All part of the fun. Ideal October for me would be an I-70 Series repeat.

Since moving here, I've averaged 2-3 games a year at the K, at least one per season when the Cardinals aren't the opponent. Love the ballpark, learned the importance of proper seat selection for summer dates.

My daughter has become a bona fide Royals fan. Her favorite player is Lorenzo Cain. I am not opposed to her selection, especially since she is not swayed by Hosmer's rugged good looks.

Had a great time going to the game on Big Slick Night this summer. Paul Rudd occupies 2 or 3 spots on my wife's List Of Five, so she insisted on showing up early to catch the celebrity softball game. Great fun, even though the varsity game was a dud.

My neighbor is from KC and a huge (and loud) Royals fan. I've probably watched them this year more than any team except the Giants. They are fun to watch. They're do lots of little things well and are a fast aggressive teams that makes things happen. But man, Physioc and Hudler are pretty brutal to listen to.

Yeah, one of my former students does periodic Hudler recaps on social media centered around the "PHRASING!" gag from Archer.

Still beats Mike Shannon, though. When my dad had surgery last year, he repurposed an old Letterman joke and compared the recovery to "listening to Mike Shannon during a rain delay."

Last night was caused by Yost leaving Volquez in one inning too long.

Tonight, though, I'm pretty sure is the first time all season that Davis and Holland both gave up runs in the same game. Definitely one of those snatching defeat from the jaws of victory games.

Yost pulled Cueto after 105 pitches tonight with an 8-run lead. For Yost, this is progress.

Perez's homer into the fountains tonight was glorious.

:lmao: Royals just took lead in top of 13th on a sacrifice bunt with a man on first. Pitcher fielded bunt, threw past first and into right field, Dyson (80 speed) came all the way around and scored.

ETA: and game is in extra innings because Zobrist homered off Chapman in the 9th. :lmao: :lmao:

Met a "Royals fan" from South Dakota tonight.

I said the Royals starting pitching was "####" and he said. "well it won them a World Series last year so it must be good."

Medlin looked good on a limited pinch count. Rios and Infante both playing well trying to stay on the field. Gordo hit a homer in Omaha today. Royals may be getting better.

I really like this experiment stretching out Medlen to see if he can be a Game 4 starter in a playoff series. Certainly that job is still open, or at least it should be. Morales and Madson have pitched well enough to be trusted with a postseason 5th-6th inning, or even the 7th if Davis's back is worse than we are led to believe. (I'm pushing Herrera back to the 8th inning in this scenario.) Point being, for a 4th starter they only need someone who can get through the order twice without letting the game get out of hand. The bullpen is that deep.

That is great news on Gordon. Zobrist coming in and hitting like a 6-win player has been a godsend, and like you pointed out, there's two more spots on the field for him to occupy if Gordon is good to go in the playoffs. I'd like to see Infante stay at 2B to keep continuity in the infield, but not at the expense of benching Zobrist. It seems the ideal scenario here is healthy Gordon in LF, Zobrist sliding over to RF but keep hitting second, hope that Infante hits a little better, and have Rios available for PH duties.

Yost has Zobrist leading off tonight.

And Gordon hitting second.

The batting order is what it should be pretty much from 1-9, and lots of alternating hitting sides to make opposing bullpen decisions tougher.

I... I... Don't know how to react to this. It feels so weird.

Duffy to the bullpen, Guthrie to the rotation for the final weeks.

Playoff rotation looks like it will be Cueto, Ventura, Volquez, and Medlen.

Hi! I'm Johnny Cueto, and I have DirecTV.

And I'm Kansas City Royals Johnny Cueto, and I have cable.
I approve of this message.
It's been fascinating. Cueto has moved to pitcher's park with a much better defense behind him and facing hitters less familiar with him, and of course he's been awful.Hard to tell if it's mechanics or what. His pitches have so much movement win or lose, it's hard to tell what's gone wrong.

Turns out, Cueto had a mechanical flaw. He was opening up his left shoulder too early, which was flattening out his pitches. Still had good side-to-side action, but not getting the drop he usually gets to make bats miss (or hit weak grounders).

Pitching coach said they worked it out while watching video of Curto getting shelled. Tough to spot because his windup is so weird.

And... Holland wasn't throwing hard sliders and getting batters out because his elbow is hurt and has been for a long time.

Wade Davis will close in the playoffs. Holland might make the postseason roster, but not expected to pitch in high-leverage situations until next year at the earliest.

Chiefs and Royals together are wearing me out. Tried to watch some Sporting KC as well.

Luckily nothing is happening in Lawrence for a couple more months.

Waiting to see the schedule. I get the pleasure of attending a 2nd grade music program on Thursday evening, followed by a scout camping event starting Friday at 6:00pm. Yay kids!

I made the mistake of getting married in October. My bride and I arrive at the reception venue, get seated at head table, I grab the mic, welcome everyone to our reception, "and if anyone has the Cardinals/Diamondbacks score, please bring it to Table 1".

October had traditionally been a safe time to get married in KC. St. Louis has been going strong for a while though.

Game 1 is Thursday at 7:08 Central.

Game 2 is Friday at 2:45 Central.

So, I'm predicting lots of dads checking their phones during that 2nd grade music program Thursday night.

That Game 2 start time is deceptively tough. Between playoff TV commericals and playoff strategy mid-inning pitching changes, going to be difficult for that game to finish by 6. Hopefully Ventura is painting the corners and making quick work of (opponent TBD).

ALDS roster announced

On the pitching side... No Guthrie. Took Chris Young instead. 11 pitchers overall.

Game 1-3 starters will be Ventura, Cueto, and Volquez in that order. Game 4 starter not named yet; expected to be either Young or Kris Medlen. How much bullpen work those two get, if any, should indicate who Yost is leaning for Game 4. Duffy will pitch out of the bullpen to get an extra lefty back there.

In the outfield... Jonny Gomes left behind. Gordon-Cain-Rios will start, Dyson, Orlando, and Terrance Gore (!) are the reserves.

Zobrist will start at 2B. Christian Colon carried as extra infielder. As expected, no Infante.

Perez will catch. Butera will make sure the Gatorade bucket stays cold.

Music program starts at 6:30. I will be the dad with the kid under the arm running to the car at 6:55.

Game sucked. Tomorrow is a must win.

Crowd was anemic tonight and I got wet.

I sit somewhat close to Marlins man. #### that guy.

I'm definitely starting to achieve an erection after watching the quality baseball and then the subsequent barrage of Viagra commercials with that MILF.

I'd sure like to close this out today though.

Game 6 is at home but vs. a tough Price... and then Game 7 would be Cuety.... so I'd like Volquez to bring da heat.

We set up the projector in the driveway for game one and had about 20 people over. We drank anytime there was an ad for a prescription drug - double if it was an ED drug. We were pretty warm by the end of the game.

sounds like a way to brownout by the 3rd inning and blackout by the 8th

Cueto appreciation thread. I know it is unlikely he will sign with the Royals, but i think he likes playing with Volquez and Ventura. Salvy behind the plate cant hurt either.

Who knows? Maybe his crappy August/September and eccentric nature suppress the market for him. Probably wishful thinking, but when you're trying to come up with a best-case scenario it comes with the territory.

Have fun for those going to the parade tomorrow. My wife and kids are skipping school to head downtown - I will be landing in Vegas around the time the parade starts.

After this past weekend, Vegas is looking like a recovery facility.

Drunk KU students broke into the stadium, tore down the goal posts, and dumped them in Potter Lake. Seems a little over the top.

Try to take a shuttle downtown if you can. Parking will fill up early, and so many streets will be blocked/closed it will be difficult to get around. Pretty much the entire city is shutting down to celebrate this. My daughter's school cancelled classes tomorrow, every district adjacent to us is off, several local colleges are cancelling classes tomorrow, too.

EXCELLENT thread title update! :towelwave:

Football is 0-8. Might have been their only opportunity to tear down goal posts.Oddly, that is the most extensive damage reported from the WS celebration last night. There weren't any arrests of unruly fans at P&L or CC Plaza, folks in line for swag at Academy/Rally House/ ****'s/etc were civil.

Hosmer let his fascination with "Trap Queen" by Fetty Wap take over the clubhouse. He started issuing kangaroo court fines to players who passed on an opportunity to use "17" or "38" in postgame interviews.

Hosmer's run in the 9th last night came at the 17 hour, 38 minute mark of cumulative game time in the Series.
