*** Official Semien Is Spanish For Butcher Error Tracker *** (1 Viewer)

Looks like he's been a butcher in the minors too. Probably not a SS for long, seems more like a fit at 2B long-term. Of course you can probably say the same thing about Ian Desmond who has been 1st or 2nd in errors every year he's been in the league, but having a big bat at SS tends to make us overlook these things. Also Desmond has very good range so he will save runs over the course of the year, Semien doesn't seem like that guy.

Guy can hit though, they'll find a place for him.

Franklin Barreto, the Venezuelan SS the A's acquired in the Donaldson trade is OPSing .560 in the Cal League.

A's are supposedly talking to Ron Washington about bringing him back as an IF instructor. He apparently worked wonders with Hatteberg et. al. his first time around.

He's 19.
too bad the Oaklands don't have a Major League ready SS prospect in their organization
On principle I blanche at trading anything for a player who is ostensibly a rental, but I'm not even sure that Russell is AAA-ready, he certainly isn't MLB ready. His plate discipline went to pot since the trade last year.

I was away all weekend so didn't pay attention to anything baseball for 3 days

No more than 5 minutes after I look at the As box scores from the weekend, and realize that he didn't commit an error over the last 3 games, he boots one

Scroll on MLBN last night pointed out that Semien's 17 errors are the most before the end of May since Gary Templeton sometime in the late 70s.
