Shaq or Jake Ryan? (1 Viewer)

That one guy

Shaq Thompson was and is still ranked higher on most sites, but Ryan has certainly gained ground post draft. I'm actually seeing Shaq drop below Ryan in a good amount of dynasty drafts now, and so it comes to my pick and both are available. Could take both since I have back to back picks, though I'm leaning toward only one and grabbing Justin Hardy (WR, ATL) for offensive depth; plus I've already drafted Denzel Perryman

Thoughts, opinions on the two? Which route would you personally take?

need more info....how big is the league....how many linebackers do you start....is there a major shift in total points for receivers in your league or is it more balanced overall scoring between traditional fantasy positions and IDP positions?

Also need...what's your depth like right now, youth wise, talent wise at linebacker and receiver right now?

Then again.....

perhaps it just comes down to how you feel about Hardy...there are those that will get on the table for him and others that will say, he's just a marginal talent and as soon as White's finished as a starter, they will find someone else in the draft at a higher draft pick investment.

If it were me and we were in a balanced league, I would just take the linebackers at this point. Ryan will give you an instant option that should start right away....but...he's not the talent that Shaq is and (my personal feelings here) it's probably best to slant towards believing his has God given talents will come through in a year or two and he could endup being a top 15 IDP option for a long-time (I think he's only 21) in the league.

if you have a taxi squad, put Shaq there, and use Ryan as an option that can start for you in a good situation.

16 team, full IDP...start 3 LBs

As for depth, I have A Jeffery, M Floyd (ARI), K Wright, and B Quick at WR; drafted B Perriman and have no other taxis. For LB, I have D Davis, Laraunitus, Aldon Smith, M Ingram, and C Upshaw; Jarvis Jones and D Perryman (drafted) on taxi

Scoring is 1/2 pt PPR/6pts per TD. For IDP it's mostly balanced, tackles 2 pts, assists 1, and sack 2.

I could also go for Owa or R Gregory at DE, though I'm leery of those with the other LB choices still available; could probably still get a decent DL come 4th and 5th rounds

Pretty early to get any reports out of Green Bay, MM said he looked conformable and looked good in coverage but that's about it. Take both or go with your gut.

Opportunity is there for Ryan but GB has brought in a lot of guys that didn't do much. Thompson's good at drafting WR's, d line and LB not so much.

I agree that Ryan might not even get on the field that much. It could be Bradford that gets more playing time or it could be Matthews that moves inside alot. Teams playing the nickel or dime so much takes away chances. Thompson is going to be on the field as he can do lots of different things including playing a little S like.

Even if Ryans starts how many snaps will he get. Is Barrington not one of the ILB or will he come out on passing downs.

give me Shaq.

I ended up going Shaq and R Gregory...may have been a reach, but Gregory has as much potential as Ryan, I think, and certainly moreso in the immediate sense

Nobody knows yet.

I like shaq but he's the third lb for now, tackle opportunities will be Somewhat limited this year. I like him more for the Panthers than ff.

Agreed. Kuechly isn't going anywhere and the offenses run will probably provide more tackle opportunities for Ryan than Shaq.

The feel from Twitter is that he has a great chance to start year 1 and they feel comfortable with him in coverage. They are extremely high on Ryan.

I had a thought about Shaq Thomson's ability to make plays.

He had a big man manning the middle of the Husky defense in NT Danny Shelton who consistently ate up two/three blockers to keep him clean. He has some nice big men up front for him in Carolina in Kawaan Short and Star Lotulelei but he either has to switch to safety or he has to beat out Thomas Davis because he's not going to play on the strong side.

I don't know if he gets much of a shot this year unless Davis gets injured but that defense has the big men up front in Kawaan and Star to help any undersized playmaking LB like Thomas Davis or Shaq.

Probably not this year but I like the situation for further down the line.
