I Am Chris Farley - new documentary (1 Viewer)

Matt Foley bits were great. I end up watching the Matt Foley bits pretty often because of this co-worker I have - a big huge fatty who tugs at his belt like that.

It would've been interesting to see what he did with those 20 years if he'd been around.

He and Phil Hartman were tough to see go before they should have.

It's amazing what he accomplished by that age. Just sitting here I can easily think of like 50 different parts of movies, interviews, and SNL where Farley had me rolling.

Whenever he was on it was like watching Mike Tyson pay per view. Can't take your eyes off for a second or you miss something awesome.

Big fan. Rem.. remember.. remember in that thing when you had sweat stained armpits and you fell through that table on stage? That was awesome.

I'm a little skeptical that this isn't going to be anything new that we haven't already seen. I really love the guy and still rewatch all his stuff, but the trailer doesn't show really anything hinting there might be lots of new, cool stuff included. How many times can we hear he struggled with his stardom and see David Spade be sad that he's dead?

I never knew Farley hated the Chippendales skit. I can't watch it and enjoy it now.
I've even read that some believe it pkayed a significant role in his downfall. I'm not sure how true that really is, but it's sad and taints the skit for me.

I don't buy it, he was already hooked on heroin by then.

The skit wasn't even directed at him for being fat, it was making a joke of a Chippendales audition being about anything but looks.

I thought I had heard that Farley hated that sketch as well, but I could only find this quote from Chris Rock about it:"'Chippendales' was a weird sketch. I always hated it...The joke of it is, basically, 'We can't hire you because you're fat.' There's no comic twist to it. It's just [bleep]ing mean. Chris wanted so much to be liked. As funny as that sketch was...it's one of the things that killed him."

Let me preface this by saying I'm a huge Chris Farley fan...but I believe his "They only like me because I'm a fat guy who falls down" shtick was only his excuse to engage in his addiction. His hero John Belushi was, you guessed it, fat.

That skit was on his fourth episode with SNL (1990) and he had a drug and alcohol problem before that with Second City. Maybe he didn't like the skit but it's not the reason he died of drugs. He was sober for three years (1994-1996) and fell off the wagon for reasons that had nothing to do with that skit. He was sober filming Tommy Boy and got acclaim from that movie for being more than a just a 'fat guy falling down' yet he still got back on drugs.

I am confident in saying that Farley's life/death would have gone down the same exact way had that skit never been created. Just a hunch.

One of the greatest skits ever though. Maybe the greatest.

Was going to post this. I've read in a lot of places that that skit is when he realized people laughed at him as a buffoon, not as a great comedian.

Farley made SNL must see TV as you didn't want to miss what he was going to do next.

Gone well before his time.

Chris reportedly voiced 99 percent of the dialogue for the original “Shrek” movie when he died of a drug overdose in 1997. The character was then re-voiced – and changed considerably – by fellow “Saturday Night Live” alum Mike Myers.

“Originally the Shrek character was a little bit more like Chris, like a humble, bumbling innocent guy,” said Kevin, who bears no grudge toward Myers or DreamWorks studio.
Never heard of this.

Jay Mohr has some great stories about Farley. Calls him "the Sun" from the way he'd light up any room he was in.

He talks about how he was just this abnormally sweet guy who wouldn't hurt a fly and always had great concern for others.

Talks about the first time he met him. Farley was greeting each of his coworkers individually when someone introduced the new kid. Mohr said he walks across the room and then prat falls into him. His face right at his crotch and Farley goes into pantomiming giving him a blowie. Complete with slurping, gagging sounds and mixing in greetings to Jay. He finishes up...stands up...wipes his mouth and the eloquently walks out of the room.

That was Chris Farley.

Oof

Watching so far. I like how Chris brother was behind this.

He said he wanted to put to rest some of the untrue rumors and celebrate how he lived.

And make a bography that not unauthorized like the others

His brother was on Mohr podcast

Just talked about the sketch. That was in 1990. He was on the show for 7 more years. Not sure how it was his downfall

Eta I see this was discussed earlier

The documentary I think was awful. I didn't know what I wanted to see or get out of it, but it seemed sloppy. Everyone talking about how great he was, and showing past clips. I thought the documentary would delve into his addiction more?

Let me save you some time from watching it.

Farley was a great big man, with a big heart, and was funny. Never wanted to let anyone down, had low self esteem, felt as if he had to make people laugh all the time, was never "off stage", had a large appetite for everything including food, and drugs. Everyone loved him, he was a gentleman to women, and was every guys friend.
