IDP Negative Points (1 Viewer)

Trying to figure out a way to add in negative points for individual defensive players (missed tackles, penalties...) to help balance out both sides of the ball. When creating IDP leagues in sites such as NFL, Yahoo, or ESPN, the only negative point options for defense is the default option set up for entire defenses which wil not work for IDP's. Any comments or feedback on the issue would be appreciated, especially solutions that would not require me manually combing each games stats every week. Thanks.

Problem will be I don't know of any sort of even quasi-official source for negative stats here. You would have similar trouble trying to build in non-turnover negatives for offensive players, such as WR drop penalties. Sacks and turnovers and missed FGs are obvious enough to score officially, but scoring missed tackles for IDPs seems to be in the same vein as trying to score "ran the wrong route" for a WR or "missed the open target" for QBs.

Great idea, but ahead of its time.

I am not understanding why adding negatives will "help balance out both sides of the ball". What are you trying to balance? Scoring between offense and IDP players? You can do that without using a negative approach and by varying point values for the various defensive scoring categories.

It would be easier to provide comments if I get a better understanding of the purpose and what you are trying to accomplish.

Thanks for the feedback. When I state "balancing each side of the ball" this means I want things to remain somewhat equal on both sides of the ball whether it be points, or in this particular case negative points issued to boith sides of the ball. My argument is that if a player on the offense can be penalized for an incomplete pass, or fumble, so too should LB's?DE's/DB's be penalized for missed tackles etc. Yes we can just elimiate the negatives and tweak the points to even things out as we did last year, but we feel that though it's important to reward all the players for the positives they do, they should also be penalized for ####### up. In IDP leagues, this can only be done on the defensive side of the ball which is not balanced.

I agree that what I am requesting would be painfully exhausting to attempt to track, and part of it may be due to the fact that IDP leagues, though are far more prevelant than they were when I first started playing them some 15 years ago, are still in the cellar as far as fantasy football goes. On the other hand, we basically use PFF's 'Ultimate IDP Scoring System" as our basis to balance out both sides of the ball, and if those cats can break players down to the specific stats that they do, that maybe they, or some other hardcore fantasy nerd out there has devloped a methond or algorithm to track missed tackles, or even easier PI's or ecroachments etc.

I get what you are trying to do. I just don't know if the positive will outweight the difficulty. Hey, maybe it's a chance for someone to come up with a new site and make some money.....hahhahaha
