Perfect Songs - List Here (1 Viewer)

I didn't click on any of the unnamed youtube links, but Pink Floyd wasn't mentioned by name till page 3??

Anyway....when I think of a 'perfect' song its one I can put on a good pair of headphones, recline back and get lost in the music. A mellow tone on the guitar, some interwoven keyboards, subtle percussion. Vocals are optional. Bands that fit that description for me are Floyd, anything by Steven Wilson, maybe some Steely Dan, and some '70s Zappa.

Just about the entire 'Royal Scam' and 'Aja' albums fit my description of perfect.

Here's an underrated tune from 'Royal Scam' - The Caves of Altamira

Porcupine Tree - Arriving Somewhere, But Not Here

Frank Zappa - Blessed Relief

This song was the debut single of my good friend and former bandmate's new band, The Lassie Foundation, which formed in 1996. Despite never really reaching national prominence, they created a lot of truly incredible music over the next ten years before disbanding in 2006. (Their guitarist is now a member of Smashing Pumpkins.). Anyway, I remember putting on my headphones and listening to this single off their first EP back in '96 and thinking that it may be the most perfect song I've ever heard. Not everyone's cup of tea I imagine.

Tough to argue with almost all of the songs mentioned. Everyone has different taste but some songs do seem perfect. For example, I have never put on Billie Jean but I have to listen to it when I hear it. That may be the best pop song of all time.

Not even my favorite song on the album but the perfect song to start a perfect album for me is Welcome to the Jungle by GnR.

Seems like there should be more Zep, Floyd, and Beatles songs. More Metallica songs should probably be mentioned. Not sure how you make better thrash metal that is listenable. Sad But True and For Whom the Bell Tolls are tough to beat in that genre.

Logically, one of my favorite bands would have some perfect songs for me: Take Hold of the Flame and Eyes of a Stranger - Queensryche

I'll add Fleetwood Mac's "Dreams".

I've heard it a gazillion times, but I'll always listen to it. From the song structure to the harmonies to the superb musicianship to the raw emotion in the lyrics, this song has got it all.

To me, the perfect song is one that perfectly executes its purpose and structure with creativity, skill and quality of performance, especially if it would be almost impossible to duplicate by others.

Some songs that I'd second are

Billie Jean

One

Dazed & Confused

Bittersweet Symphony

In the Air Tonight

Baba O'reilly

Wish You Were Here

Bohemian Rhapsody

Black

What a Wonderful World

Some that I haven't seen listed that I consider perfect are:

Riders On The Storm

Killing In the Name

Hurt - performed by Johnny Cash

The Pretender

Paradise City

Hey Ya

Carole King - "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow"

I always thought this was a fantastic tune she wrote with Gerry Goffin, but when I saw the musical Beautiful a few months ago, this song reached an entirely different level for me. The Shirelles' recording is more well known and bouncier, but this version that Carole eventually recorded on Tapestry really captures the essence of the song.
