At the moment I'm feeling comfortable with my most expensive WR being in the $16 - $19 range.

Never had that happen in previous years.

Please remind me...Does the entry form get updated between its initial release and the submission deadline? The reason I ask is I noticed some sleepers I really like (ex. Stefon Diggs) are not on the entry form.
That's one of the biggest complaints. But given the difficulty of adding players or adjusting, we really can't blame them.
There a few guys missing that I really wanted to draft. Oh well..

It's probably for the best, it's a slippery slope.

Can you imagine how much more of a time suck this would be if the roster choices were updated?

I seem to have an easier time creating a large roster team this year.

30 players at the moment.

$ allocation:

11.20% qb
32.80% rb
36.80% wr
10.40% te
4.00% k
4.80% d

If you're looking for some historical survival rate data on roster construction while building lineups, feel free to use the querier here: http://o.ffense.com/fbg35k/querier/index.phpIt's been updated with last year's results and goes back to 2007.

Also, in the absence of any other solutions I'm planning to run the live scoring again this year. However, I'm pretty busy and it's only going to get much worse once we roll into NFL season, so if anyone ever wanted to try their hand at putting together a live scoring app for the contest I'd be happy to pass the torch. If you're on the fence, consider that at this time last year I'd never done anything like this in my life and in the span of a couple of weeks with a bunch of googling I was able to get a working site up and running. It was a tremendous learning experience for me, and it actually helped me land my current job which is awesome. Like I said, I can fire it up again this year but if anyone wants to take a crack at it please feel free, and let me know if you have any questions.
I'll see if I can put something together, but time is pretty sparse for me as well.

I only see 2 players that will be on every roster.

Fewer than years past.
I only really see 1. Do you really think that other guy will be on everyones? He's somewhat overrated I think. The first guy should be a lock though.

Yea, that guy. That one guy is a lock. The lock guy. The guy lock. Lockity lock for sure. Just so we're on the same page, and of course I know who he is, but just so everyone else knows... who's the lock?

I already did that.

I've got 2 cheapos. One qb and one wr. Wonder if we're thinking the same guys or not.

What exactly is so difficult about adding players?

It's not particularly difficult. You just have to recalculate auction values based on vbd values of the entire field. I'm sort of a contrarian though, and would not like it if there were revisions to the grid.

I would be cool if they added a player and updated the prices of players that are affected if they get hurt for the year in the preseason. So replace Niles Paul with another 3 dollar tight end and maybe adjust Reed's price.

I don't think it's feasible to change prices / add players. Take the N. Paul / Reed example from Daisy above (not picking on you, just using your example). If Reed's price is adjusted upward, what happens to all the teams that already have Reed on their roster? Most (if not all) would now have an illegal lineup because his new salary would put teams over. And what about the teams with Paul already on their roster? Should that player be swapped for the new $3 player? Should he just be dropped from their roster? I just think it would be a nightmare for FBGs to try to manage all these potential salary and player changes AND make it fair for everyone who has already added players to their rosters.

Can someone direct me to some of the older strategy threads?

Right now I'm thinking the strategy is:

Gronk + cheap back up, 3 QB2s, 4 solid RBs, a bunch of WR3s, and as many DEF and K that I can imagine.

Can someone also point me to teams of past winners?

Thanks.

I'm guessing it's likely more of a legal issue. If you open a contest offering a cash prize, then change the landscape after some entries have already been accepted, that's just begging for some people to claim it wasn't fair after the contest is over (and I would tend to agree).

Yes, everyone can modify their roster until the entries are locked, but there is no way to guarantee that 100% of the participants are made aware of players being added. You could send out emails, make giant notification banners on the website - it doesn't matter what you come up with because there will always be a chance of that 1 in 10,000 person who submitted an entry on the first day and never again even looked at the website or opened FBG emails. That will be the person who would claim the contest wasn't fair because they were not aware of "Player X" being available for selection, and again I would agree with them.

It doesn't matter that players are missing from the entry form. They are missing for everyone, therefore it is a level playing field.

maybe I'm set now.

5 @ $20 or more

5 @ $11 - $19

2 @ $6 - $10

10 @ $5 or less

I am normally a 20 to 23 player roster guy, but this year I am at 18.

Could change obviously, but I like it for right now. Only found 1 - 2 lower priced players I really want, but much more preseason to come.

It seems people are focusing on quality instead of quantity, I'm going to do the opposite

25 players

3 @ $20 or more

6 @ $11 - $19

8 @ $6 - $10

8 @ $5 or less

Well, the best value in the contest is now out for the season...
This contest was the first thing I thought about when I read about him. Didn't feel like messing with it, so I just moved his $2 to a better defense and am now sitting at 29 players.

There are exactly 3 sub-$5 WRs who at this point are no brainers and will be on my roster. 2 others who have potential.

The list of cheap RBs is a total garbage heap though.

There are two studs who I don't think you can replicate their production through any combination of other players at the same cost. They won't be coming off my roster imo.

You are right a out it being a pain for the people that set their lineup and are done u less injury or never touch it again. I was more thinking about how it would be more fun for me. I love this contest and look at it many times a day. It is a good thing they don't release it until August or I would do nothing all summer.

I am here, I have 3 running backs, 2 receivers and 2 tight ends that are on unless they get hurt. After that I have a group of 12 to 15 guys that I keep changing back and forth.

Going with Volume right now:

2 QBs

6 RBs

6 WRs

4 TEs

4 Ks

3 Ds

This is my standard approach and usually gets me eliminated right around week 10-12.

I'm only considering 1 sub $5 WR a complete no brainer thus far. Depending on how preseason shakes out, there's could be more.

I am with you, do I have to be the one to say his name? We all know who it is.

Say the names OTHER than him. :)

I heard his blood is royal purple even though his uniform is blue and orange.

Look, of the sub-$5 WRs, only 1 is a for sure starter right now. 2 more might be, but their QBs are crap and the might not amount to anything.

This is nothing near the $2 Josh Gordon and $2 Julius Thomas of the past. A situation like that has yet to present itself this year imo

Barring injury I think I have, with a couple of fringe players that can change because I still have 9 dollars left

2 qbs

5 rbs could be 6

5 wrs could be 6

3 tes

3 kickers

3 defenses
