Titans 2015 in-season thread (1 Viewer)

Injuries-

David Cobb is on IR; traded for West to fill a RB spot, thread to debate West's role

Sam Hill out few weeks with surgery to repair torn meniscus- Woods will start in his place.

McCourty is out a few weeks after groin surgery.

Bleeding only returned last week and played a bit. Cox was to be outside in 2 WR sets and slot CB with McCourty and Bleeding outside in 3 WR sets. Huff is no longer listed as a safety but CB and should be a replacement here as will Coty Sensabaugh.

Wonder how soon we'll see West running between the tackles
It's always hard to tell. Keeping in mind they don't have full pads practices but like 12 times a season, it's different now.

I would guess a week earliest, 2 or 3 til he's comfy.

Many say with RBs and WRs they gotta know the plays real well where they don't think and just run. Gotta figure he's thinking for a few weeks no?

I'm now reading that Jonas Gray will visit the Titans. Man, the tea leaves aren't painting a pretty picture for Sankey.

There's a lot of confidence in Lebeau's D having just left camp where they tried to slowly show Mariota some of everything. Now in week one some of the talk is that they could switch sets N schemes often on Winston to confuse him whereas if this were week 10, they might have forgotten this or that and been comfy.

My thought is Evans' hamstring might make them super lucky, otherwise I still have 2014 in me and want nickel D with 5 guys on Evans because Tampa would be crazy to do anything other than throw to Evans every single play.

Jonas Gray did squat on Miami and Baltimore.

He blew up with 37 for 201 yards and 4 TDs in week 4. After that, he was benched by BB for a week. Then over the next four weeks he totaled only 80 yards.

He's a jekyl and hyde type thus far.

I think invite and not contract offer shows some hmmm doubts

By most all accounts he's a poor pass blocker and decent grinder. They have just that.

What they need is more backs who can play on 3rd down so they can have a typical depth chart and not do this role stuff.

I am unsure which type of back Gray is good or bad.

I actually hoped it was Cyrus Gray and they'd sign him and put him on IR. He's an excellent ST and every year in the playoffs some ST ace makes plays but curiously the Chiefs and Cowboys(??) let him go. Titans would need too much luck to happen to be a playoff team so I don't know that he belongs with them but geesh I'll take one of the best at anything, punting long snapping...who cares just grab em'.

ETA Jonas Gray cleared waivers, no team wanted him

Do you think the OL will make this an OK season? or will they stink?
I still think they are a weakness. but they won't get Mariota killed - or give him PTSD like Houston's line gave David Carr

I hope to be wrong on the first part of the statement above ;)

I'm not sure I can find 3 wins on the schedule. Going to be a long year.

Yahoo Power Rank is 32. Probably hold that spot all year.

I think few thought they could win any games and were defeated before the games began quite often last year. Whisenhunt over-planned and tried to force-feed things like he's teaching a lesson and....it seems as a whole the organization wants to forget last year and be different. A chance to win, changes things. It's important for them to beat CLE or TAM

A decent run game and exceptional LB play could dramatically change their season.

Without the stellar OL coaching, Whisenhunt uses a two TE set often, ignores that he has a FB, and... I really don't think he knows what to do. Mentioning a three TE set a few times now just disturbs me.

When he mentions Fowler and Delanie playing slot, Klug blocking and RBs lined out wide after the huddle...well there's someone thinking.

Sometimes I think it would all make sense if NFL films had a mic on Mariota and I heard "Sankey run into a wall on 2, break"

Whisenhunt was sugar-coating everything about his QBs last year. He seems to have a genuine fondness and appreciation of talent toward Mariota. Hopefully that will allow them to throw the ball some and open things up a little bit.

Titans held workout for him and passed. He signed to Fins PS

How many Titans are on Titans fans FF rosters?

I drafted zero til this week. On two teams, I've got Douglas, Hunter, and Andrews because they were my last three picks and 3 of last 4. I don't care about homerism once 18th round hits . I wanted DGB but he went 8th round and 7th.

I see 9 winnable games. Bucs, Browns, Bills, Texans, Jags, Raiders, Jags, Jets and Texans

Most likely they will go 4-5 in these games, but I think you're pessimistic with 3.

I have Wright in most of my leagues. MM in one dynasty, tried to get him in another but not willing to give a 1st+ for him there.

jump to 19 20 min

McCluster will run some and catch some

Andrews will be in on 1st and 2nd. Also 3rd. Andrews will have some packages. One of the better pass protectors as our 3rd down back. (<---in no way was that meant to seem exclusive)

Talks about RBs improving to earn more time and Andrews certainly has a chance to do that.

Will it be better? different?

Both, hope run game is improved, have TEs that should help(improve) with the blocking

West starter or backup

Had a need with Cobb to IR, fortunate to get a player like him so late

3-4 NFL teams have just 4 WRs, Saints are one of them

WIth the TEs will there be some jumbo packages

Yes, already seen it in preseason.

Interesting he mentioned Fasano as blocking TE than can catch. Delanie Supernaw and Coffman can all catch well as the receiving outlet

Trying to be versatile. Mentions a set with Fowler as RB, Dexter and Delanie outside. (like I said many times previously how it'd look in huddle, versus how they line up)

Mentions GB using 4 WRs in 3-4 spots always changing them, Mariota used term "distributor to those guys" and he'd like him to become a distributor like Rodgers.

Non-answer to any designed runs for MM

************

Some non-answers, some aww that tells me nothing, but gotta give Titans coach's credit they always say more than most HC do around the league. They genuinely chit-chat while others seem defensive

REAL odd to hear a 20 minute conversation about RBs and no one mentioned Sankey but you all tell me I read too much into that

Evans didn't practice.

I think the sentiment is an argument like AJ Green ODB and others last year. Some have him seeing how it goes week 1, others say he could make it worse he'll sit.

While I couldn't be more prejudicial here, I do also think teams shouldn't "play games" with hammys and groins. They do annoy all season long when they do that. Just get it healed up and go from there. He's too beast-like to play soft and careful

Paul KuharskyESPN Staff Writer

Ken Whisenhunt said giant Titans WR Dorial Green-Beckham will line up inside at times. "You'll see him in the slot, sure. He may not know what he's doing or he may not be there on purpose." Major media laughs out of that one.

Not anymore - they are prepared to move on if Sankey doesn't perform well week 1.

A few guys popped up on injury report today Cox, Andrews, and Gallik. Trying to confirm if minimal or significant. They all were "limited" but did practice.

Ya know some DFS site like him and I'm hmmmm on that. I expected to think no stinkin way but I do like when guys have their backs to the wall and must perform.

If you had to guess good week bad week(no #s just good or bad) what would you guess for him?

Bucs and Titans have a week 4 bye.

That's gotta be huge for both rookie QBs and I'm wondering if there isn't some narrowed down O versus more complex after the bye. Probably DGB too

I do see it as a realistic time to switch to West, if someone in the organization wants to.

I could see that as an imaginary trade deadline for TE or an under-performer like Hunter or Bleeding or an injury fill-in since they lack depth all over or Mett if some team overpays. It'd be nice to make a trade a little before deadline and have two weeks to get acclimated.

I really doubt they rush McCourty back before that.

Today Evans didn't practice and some were saying he's only gotta go 3 times, then he can rest.

How do you think the quick bye affects things?

I think he get a good 10+ yard run in and looks mediocre the rest of the time. Should finish over 4 YPC but nothing spectacular. Just not the RB I thought he'd be. Hope he surprises though since I have him is just about every league.

I'm not a Titans homer, but I have both DGB and now West on my team. That was before I read this thread. Bri is providing some good stuff here. And if you know how your teams and coaches speak, it can be a real benefit to the board. Like you said, if you know that not saying anything about Sankey in twenty minutes gives you questions, it's probably a good thing to say it. Sometimes you figure out coach-speak, as it were. Anyway, I figured I'd rather take a flyer on West rather than a guy that's a backup like Fred Jackson. (We have a fourteen team deep league, so that's why there's Jackson, etc.)

I know my team means little, but I've been following it a bit.

It's great for the rookies to have the bye week that early. The team will get to see how Mariota does in real game action weeks 1-3 and be able to make adjustments during the bye for what works/doesn't work for him. Could see big changes after the bye if guys like Sankey and Hunter don't perform.

4 wins. Team is still bad
I don't really disagree

I remember wishing last year not for wins but for them to be competitive. I think I need to step back a sec and realize that is the next step forward not some large win total but to be in games late and not down 24 pts that seems like down 50 points.

Someone else drew the parallel, but I'd like to steal it and mention it here- if you take any predraft writeup of McBride add experience in preseason, coaching and training that he'd have gotten if Nicks wasn't there, he'd probably be a player now and not a PS guy that could use another camp

From Titans Site- Perrish Cox (hip) and running back Antonio Andrews (hamstring) were both listed as questionable after practicing on a limited basis on Friday. Whisenhunt said he expects Cox to play. Offensive lineman Andy Gallik practiced fully and is probable.

***********

Gotta get my head back into regular season injury mode, really little reason for those two to do more than limited basis on Friday.

Asked many, got little about Andrews- I wouldn't even call it a tweak maybe a twinge.

I just can't see the Titans being competitive on defense. Maybe it's a hangover from last year for me, but they just seem undermanned and overwhelmed to me. That said, Jameis is going to be good for at least 2-3 head-scratchers a game in the near term. If the Titans can turn those into turnovers instead of relatively harmless incompletions, I think they can win this week. I do have the sense that Mariota can play and that long-term I think he might be solution at QB.

Nothing has changed really about Evans. It still seems like "do we push him and risk making it worse or let him rest to be 100%"

As I've said before, as a big fan of Evans, I think they should sit him. He's too beastly. Playing gingerly just doesn't seem Evans-like.

I don't think they get a more favorable matchup than the Titans where they could win without him. It just doesn't seem like an all hands on deck type matchup at all.

I think you have the smarter QB + a crafty old DC, that combo might be just enough to win this one

Agree on the first 2 points 100%. But, the Titans secondary has been, well, dysfunctional all pre-season. Think back to Gronk's first TD catch last night when Pitt just didn't cover him at all. That's only slightly worse than the Titans baseline.

Kuharsky-

Since 1995, rookie quarterbacks playing against LeBeau defenses are 3-26, with 24 touchdown passes, 37 interceptions and a .551 completion percentage. Just one, Jeff Garcia in 1999, has thrown for 300 yards.

Jarrett Payton got with a coffee company to make a Walter Payton Sweetness Blend coffee and donate proceeds to his foundation.

I've never been "that guy" posting buy links in a MB but I thought it'd be kind of cool to drink some Walter Payton coffee during a game.

You can find it on his twitter page or probably googling
