  1. I absolutely agree. This last season was a glorified soap opera that very poorly conceived and executed.
  2. Really? I thought it was a great episode. Ricky Gervais had so many funny 1 liners in there.Could you share a few? I don't think he is funny at all. I never watched the British version of "The Office" so maybe he is funny in there.
  3. Seems it was modeled after the stimulus bill passed under President Obama.
  4. Bigtime thanks to you, and to Bueno, and even to Wilked (though he thinks I'm an uncaring bastard) for providing the rest of us so much info in this thread. Whether the news is good or bad, it's always better to know, and I've learned a lot about this from reading the three of you. This is one of the reasons the FFA can at times be so valuable, and you three guys have all been terrific in spending time and effort explaining stuff.Very
  5. Wow...this is the biggest surprise to me. I am surprised to see how well they are doing despite the NCAA sanctions.
  6. Great news. Let's hope that this is just the beginning.I got a pretty sizeable pay increase. Didn't see that one coming.Good for you. You are buying the first round at the cornhole.

  8. Unemployment rates are at 27 year highs.Link to Bureau of Labor data. August 1983 were the last time unemployment data was this high. How about the unemployment rate increase in Bush's last six months compared to the percentage of increase since Obama took over?Fine by me....let's look at the stock market numbers in the same way. How is that for balance?

So, after losing 50 yards in runs you are celebrating the fact that we may gain a few yards next time? If unemployment is reduced by 0.5% in the next year(a very optimistic forecast), it will still be at the highest level in 27 years. That is with improvement. Woo-woo...let's celebrate!!

  11. Isn't this further proof that the rich get richer under Obama? Unemployment is up under his tenure, so the majority of the people reaping this windfall are the "rich" people. If you are unemployed, I doubt you are buying shares in the market. The rich get richer!!!My answer to this is the same as what conservatives say...the government can't directly create jobs. When the markets were bleeding, companies shed jobs to survive. Economic theory says that if companies are making money (higher markets), they will spend some of that money hiring people. That has not fully happened, but I do think it's coming. I would personally like to see Obama and his staff offer hiring incentives to some of the American companies that are sitting on huge cash reserves (Apple, Google, etc). I don't think just the rich got richer here. Anyone with a 401K plan (which most of us have as retirement packages have been eliminated for most workers) all benefited. I know quite a few people that were forced to work longer because of the money they lost in their 401Ks during the Bush years. For them, this market surge returned their accounts to a level where they could indeed retire. I was not blaming Obama for the rise in unemployment, so no need to get defensive about that.My point is that while most people's 401K's have increased(not the unemployed, however), the people who have the money to see the biggest gains in the stock market are rich people. While middle class people with jobs made some gains, the rich made even GREATER gains. So, the rich got richer in relation to the middle class and the poor. Isn't this the argument of the left? So why should we celebrate the surge in the markets? Isn't this just another way that the rich get richer than other economic strata of society?
