  1. We were able to retire in our early 40's. A key component to the early retirement was lowering of expenses. One of the keys to lowering expenses was that we paid our house off in our early 30's. After we paid our house off we were able to save a lot of money at a very quick rate. There is no right or wrong answer here unless you have an 100% guarantee of earning more investing than you pay in debt service to your house. If you have a 100% perfect choice, then financially, it is better to invest. But when you couple in the fact that you likely do not have a 100% chance of earning more investing than your debt service and the mental side of owning your own home outright, the decision becomes bit more tricky.
  2. You're not just comparing a crime drama to a zombie show...you're comparing what is arguably one of the greatest shows in the history of television to a zombie show. Not a fair comparison by any stretch.I'll grant that to some degree, but this show got a gigantic amount of hype and was being billed as the next Breaking Bad or Mad Men. You may be confusing people posting ratings information that showed TWD was doing significantly better than Breaking Bad or Mad Men did when they started. But we all know that big ratings does not always mean great quality. I for one am just happy to have a pretty good show in a genre I love. Not sure why people need it to be any more than that. This thread is reading like TWD is not the greatest TV show ever made and as such it sucks.
  3. yeah we talked about this earlier in the thread. Direct TV has so many channels in HD but missing some obvious basic ones like AMC and BBCA that are disappointing. At least the kept the aspect ratio correct (although that was probably AMC's decision and not Direct TV's).
  4. I thought the portrayal of Rick was pretty good. Reading the first couple of comics to start the series you see that Kirkman sets Rick up like this. One of the key elements of the whole series is the evolution of Rick, at least i thought it was. You should read the first few issues again, and see how Rick is protrayed.I agree with this. I think this must be just an interpretation thing. I just reread the first few comics that match up to where we are in the story line and I think they have captured Rick very well.
  5. Long overdue. I have the freaking weather channel in HD, but not AMC.This is killing me as well
  6. If you have read the thread you will see that those of us that know the story are cautioning people about the first episode and making judgements like this. While the episode was solid and stuck to the comics, you DO NOT yet have any story lines or arcs yet to follow nor have you met even more that 25% of the important characters in the story.I would seriously watch the entire season (it is only 6 episodes) before making any judgments on characters or story lines.
  7. you can't read the whole comic series or the whole thread?in either case, yay to series (so far) and uber yay to the comics.
  8. :pickle: Hopefully this will seal the deal for more episodes. They only produced six for the release, guessing they are very expensive to make.Darabount was quoted a few weeks back saying that season 2 would be a 13 episode run. He then quickly backtracked saying that would only hold true if the ratings were good.If they can hold a 4 million viewer average, we are certainly going to see a season 2 IMO.
  9. that is fantastic!!Obviously the ratings will drive a second season if they continue (which if approved will be a 13 episode season instead of the micro 6 episode season one).
  10. I think what you wrote has no basis from the comics. The characters at the camp site already gave the viewer a hint that no one should be in Atlanta. I doubt some little girl would survive in that chaos. There was a tank in the comics? Seem like the writer took some liberties with the source already. I was just explaining how I felt it could have been done better/differently.Atlanta was to have been protected by the military, as Lennie James character explained to Rick.Items like tanks and other military goodies are an important part of the infrastructure of the story.
  11. how can you make that determination based on one episode? You haven't even met most of the important characters yet. I never understand people giving up on a show based on one episode especially if it is an arc based type show. This is not Law and Order where every episode stands on its own. This is going to be a continuous story.Instead it gave me a meditative look through the eyes of characters I found flat and kind of dull. And it started the story at what is (for me) the absolutely least interesting time. After the zombies have taken the world by surprise but before the survivors have formed unique adaptations to a world with a zombie infestation.again, I recommend you wait. You are quite mistaken if you think that there are not people who have already formed adaptations to a world with a zombie infestation. In fact that to me is what drives this story. As I mentioned earlier, the zombies are great but the true awesomeness of the story is the survivors and what they do in this climate.Remember that you do not yet know how much time has passed since Rick got shot and woke up in the hospital.

I never understand people giving up on a show based on one episode especially if it is an arc based type show. This is not Law and Order where every episode stands on its own. This is going to be a continuous story. But there are people here doing just the converse. Praising the show after just one episode. But you seem to missing the point that most of the people who liked the first episode follow the source material. Since the first episode held fairly close, and we know how good the story gets from here, it gives us hope.In no way is anyone claiming the series is going to be great. No one knows that yet, just as no one knows whether the show is bad or not. Making a decision either way after one episode is always going to be littered with errors.

  15. I can't wait to see what happens when they all meet back up and our guy sees his partner playing hide the salami with his wife. That's what I was getting at re: a departure from the comic.I did not read any spoilers from the series but this topic was a key component of the early part of the story in the comics. With out giving away any of the comic spoilers, people watching for the first time with out reading need to understand the brilliance of the comics is not how the survivors deal with the zombies, its how the survivors deal with each other that drives the story.I loved the first episode and hope it continues with this quality. Perfect ending spot for the first episode.
  16. General consensus on the DLC's:General Knoxx 10/10 Zombie Island 7/10 Moxxi's Arena 1/10 Claptrap 4/10(haven't heard much about this one but everything has been disappointing) was talking to my friend about this today and he ranked them similar (maybe a little higher on Claptrap). I may only get Moxxi because I am a trophy whore.
  17. You'd be surprised how much fun it is to start over and build a new character specifically tailored for PvP. An easy build is a Temple Knight, get to level 60-65 with Endurance = 40 and the rest of your levels going into Vitality (and maybe enough into Intelligence to throw Second Chance) with a Dragon Mirdan Hammer +5. At this point in this game's cycle, this isn't a particularly "cheap" build as the players you'll be encountering aren't noobs but instead are vets who are leveling up their own PvP characters. This game's multiplayer is really a great experience.I have been thinking of doing this.In the couple of times I have been able to invade, the contests are over so quickly I am not sure what the fun is outside of disturbing another guys games. Most times I simply cast firestorm and its virtually all over.Is it more fun to use the red or blue stones rather than invading?By the way, thank you for your advice in the game. It made it more enjoyable.Only thing I did extra from your recommendations was that I used the "quit when die" technique so that I would not lose any progress.
  18. Just put in 146 hours into Demon Souls. Got 100% trophies (first game ever). Played all 146 hours in offline mode. Might spend some time trying online but I think my character is so high in levels that it is going to be hard to find anyone to invade. I will be next going back to Borderlands and downloading all 4 DLC's and hopefully getting patch 1.5 which will add 8 more levels to the cap level (topping out at 69 if you have the General Knox DLC).
  19. For regulating temperature, it is a true feel. Keep the egg clean and temperature regulation is pretty easy. It just takes some practice and you will find comfortable positions for the fly wheel and the boot draft for your various cooking temperatures. For charcoal, I tend to load some where around half way up the fire ring (fire box full and then about half way up the next level). This is for the Egg, I don't know if the Bayou Classic has the same components but I bet it does.Always stir the charcoal to let the dust settle to the bottom and then reach down and make sure the 6 or so side air holes are clean, this is key for easy fire management in the egg.Oh and never walk away from the egg with the bottom door open and the fly wheel off. In a blink of an eye the egg can get extremely hot.I use an electric starter and typically put it in the middle of the coal. After about 12 minutes I have a nice fire going. Before I take the starter out, I spread the lump around and then close the egg to let it start to come up to temp.If the egg is clean and the air holes are clear, I use this method if I am cooking a pizza at 500 for 10 minutes or ribs for 6 hours at 225, seems to work ok for me.Thanks, and, yes, the components are just the same. Do you light from the top of charcoal pile or bottom, depending on if you are preparing for a low/slow or a fast/hot grill?

  21. The more I learn about this the more I suspect it's going to blow. They had a guy on staff who already created a lot of gambling games so they put those in. Ammo will have weight (admittedly I have mixed emotions about that, ammo should have always had weight but I'm used to using it as alternative currency now). The graphics haven't been upgraded much - if at all. Worst of all: Vegas wasn't hit by nukes so there's no destruction/wasteland. There's no "fallout" in Fallout now. Doesn't look like there's any sense of survival/scavenging. No "ruins" to explore. Are you kidding? :(
  22. Borderlands will be issuing a free patch in the October time frame just before the GOTY is released and the patch will allow level cap to go up to 69. Pretty cool. http://kotaku.com/5630722/borderlands-leve...ing-up-for-free
  23. About 42 hours into my first play through of Demon's Souls. Finished 7 levels so far and character is at Soul Level 62 (started at Soul Level 1) Likes: 1) Fighting is excellent. Both ranged and melee are well designed. 2) Challenge is appropriate. No one is too easy but its not impossible either 3) The leveling system is simple yet adequate and satisfying (pay attention Elder Scrolls V) Dislikes: 1) Lack of information in the game makes the wiki an almost must have. I may have given up on a game like this with out the information in the wiki. 2) I do not at all like "World Tendency", makes getting certain weapons advancements way too much of a grind and ruins some of the flow of the game 3) Armor choices: I think I am still with the exact same armor I found after hour 6. The lack of being able to upgrade ones armor more readily is disappointing. I could see sinking at least 250 hours into this game or more. I am going to finish out this play through and then try a NG+ game. After that I will play maybe once more with a completely different character. And then after that I am going to try online. Great value for the money but as I mentioned before thank god for the wiki.
