  3. What an awful performance today. A few of my thoughts. - The Jets let Matthew Stafford pick them apart without (basically) Calvin Johnson, and they let the Lions march down the field for a 90 yard TD after Decker's TD. That's inexcusable. -The offensive line is not good. Geno has a lot of problems, but he also constantly has pressure in his face. -It's inexcusable that Amaro wasn't involved until the 4th quarter. He's clearly the 2nd most talented receiver on the team, and he needs to be playing. -I don't know why they abandoned running with Ivory after the first series. -Rex says Pryor wasn't at fault on the TD, but either way he's being horribly misused as anything other than an in-the-box safety. -The defense might lead the league in sacks, but that just really magnifies how bad the secondary has been. Maybe Milliner's return will help, if he ever returns, but who knows? -Rex botched the time management at the end of the game. It didn't end up mattering, but Reggie Bush ran for a first down and was tackled with 2:43 left. He either could've called time-out then, or done nothing and let them run a play with 2:03 left, but instead he waited until there was 2:38 left to call timeout. A few follow-ups to this: - I really hate to say this, but I think we need to give Vick a game as the starter. I'd like to see Rex show some balls and try to spark this stagnant offense. Vick could be the lightning rod that we need. While I'm not ready to give up on Geno long-term, I'm just not seeing enough for me to believe he's the best thing for the team right now. The 'mental' side of things look like a complete mess for him. How many times do I need to see a 3rd and 4 where Geno has 15 yards in front of him but instead throws a 3yard out to the sideline bringing up a 4th and 1? I do admire some of his toughness standing in the pocket when the o-line breaks down, so I'll give him that. I just feel like Geno has little clue what's going on once the ball snaps. I don't like to feel that way about my quarterback. - The D-Line was once again nasty. Nothing to see here. The pressure on the QB is encouraging going forward if the secondary can show any signs of improvement. - Stafford picked apart the secondary, BUT, I thought the defense made enough stops to win this game. The offense has to help them out. - I won't touch on the poor clock management. Enough said. - I do agree with whoever said that Amaro needs to see the field more. I notice him constantly finding dead spots in the zone and he's quick enough to beat a LB. I really like what he brings to the table. I look for him to be more featured as the season moves along. I really think he might be a nice piece long-term. All in all, just another frustrating loss. 0-3 against the NFC North.
  4. It took me a while to figure that first one out, but I'm guessing it's a typo and you meant Nick Folk - sadly that may be correct. I agree, when they put Vick in to run a play or two it makes me very angry - especially when Smith is in a flow. Without Decker this team is really really hurting offensively. Greg Salas and David Nelson are practice squad level players and Kerley is seriously stretched as the "go to" guy". There has to be better talent out there somewhere. The lack of explosive playmakers at the WR position is disappointing. Salas and Nelson don't scare anyone. Kerley is decent, but I have a feeling he gets injured if he's relentlessly targeted like he was last night. We have Saunders, but his size is questionable and after that muffed punt, I was done with him last night. Maybe Shaq Evans could've been a guy for us, and I liked Enunwa when he was drafted, but he didn't show anything. Without Decker, there just isn't the type of guy that can win a 1on1 battle in the redzone. But yet, we are still throwing and trying designed QB runs when we have one of the best power RBs in the league.
  5. Couple notes: - Why are we running a QB power on 3rd and 2 from the 3 yardline? Ivory was running hard and yet it's another head-scratching playcall inside the 5 yardline. - Ivory is clearly better than Johnson, yet Johnson was used numerous times between the tackles. After seeing Ivory catch a few balls, I'm convinced that he should be seeing at least 65% of the work out of the backfield. I realize this is unlikely, but I think he has been that much better. - Kerley as a de facto number 1? No thanks. - In general, the redzone play calling was awful. With 2 timeouts at the end of the game (at like the 15 yardline, if I remember correctly), I would have loved to see them put Ivory back in to run the ball. Especially considering we have no redzone weapon in the passing game with Decker on the sideline. - As far as the defense, the d-line was pretty solid all night. I actually though Walls/Allen held up well at CB. Chicago burned them a few times against the blitz, but I liked the defensive gameplan for the most part. Overall, definitely a game we could have won. Left a lot of points on the field and gave Chicago a couple easy scores (INT return and bogus PI call led to 2 TDs)

  8. Was at the game yesterday. Pretty good time, saw 2 fights in the crowd. One between a jets and a raiders fan and one between two jets fans. A few takeaways: - As someone else stated, Geno's movement in the pocket was pretty solid. He did a great job sliding and avoiding the rush. I was really impressed by his ability to use his legs to pick up some big 1st downs. His athletic ability might be a little underrated. As far as the arm, they didn't give him anything difficult as far as throws. His best throw was either the missed TD to Salas early or a corner route to Decker (which was called back on offensive PI). - D-Line was really stout against the run. As a side note, how about that hit by Coples on MJD. Total clothesline and some misfortune as the ball bounced off his foot and 5 yards backwards into Carr's arms. Should have been a turnover, but at the very least killed that drive and gave us some momentum. - Hard to judge the DBs as Carr wasn't really testing down the field at all. Figured they would keep it simple with him and they did. - The running game looked solid. If Geno is able to contribute 20 - 30 yards per game, in addition to what Ivory and CJ bring, it will be a breath of fresh air. Thought both RBs looked pretty good. Johnson looked better overall to me, but Ivory's TD run was awesome. - The last thing I'll say, I CAN'T believe that we tried to get cute twice inside the 10 yard by bringing Vick in to run trick plays. We moved it down the field without the need for that and then we are trying a double reverse pass at the 5 yard line. This was really disheartening and I hope not a sign of things to come going forward. All in all, Pretty solid game and one that felt like it could have been 30-14 rather than 19-14, but a win is a win.
  9. I'm rolling with him over Olsen/Pitta. Gut feeling, sometimes they pan out and sometimes they don't.
