  1. Let's just go over the list and correct me where I'm wrong. -Already on the substance abuse policy/plan even before he was drafted. -Missed a year in college. -Has been pulled over with marijauna in the car -Failed the NFL drug test however you want to slice it. 16 game season? less than 5% 14 game season? less than 10% 10-12 game season? 35% 8 game season or less? 50%
  2. 1st of all, I like the post, good summary of where we are at, a nice POV about how you feel as well, the only thing I would like to add or counter is that 50-75% is a bit high and if it is exactly as you say, he is an absolute must grab or steal after the 2nd or 3rd round basically, I cannot imagine that Goodell is gonna back down or off his stance but then again he only suspended Rice for 2 games and I thought there was a chance for the NFL which makes the players wear pink the entire month of October, it gave them a real opportunity to step up and hammer down on this type of behavior, and we all saw how that turned out. Do we have a Goodell 2.0 version now?
  3. 3/4 oz, I think his days in Pittsburgh are numbered, they don't fool around with off field stuff. I will not be surprised if Pittsburgh trades for a RB and releases Bell. This isn't Mid March and nothing is happening and he's arrested in Podunk, it's 2 weeks before the season and this guy is not thinking very clearly. Middle of training camp is not a good time to be caught doing this. Pitt usually does the right thing,
  4. It all starts with the enticing bait. And wait till you want to try and cancel service down the road. Have you forgotten that last time you had to drop off the box and remote? Those places are worse than the DMV.
  5. This thread never dips past the 3rd or 4th thread down on page 1, insanity.
  6. Richard Pryor, Eddie Murphy, Robin Williams These 3 were trailblazers. All of them had successful stand up routines plus major movies and that was not a common thing. I can point to many "comedians" or SNL types but most of them were not stand up comedians or did not choose the night clubs for their talents. Very few comedians go from the stage to the big screen with the kind of success that these three were able to have at different points in their careers.
  7. Loved his movies but I guess I didn't "get" his standup routine. Never laughed once. It was like watching an 8-year-old kid who is spazzing out after eating a giant box of candy. "And your doing cocaine and you can't fall asleep and you're doing cocaine and you can't fall asleep and you wake up, and you're doing cocaine" To each their own but his Night at the Met stands on its own and is probably one of the best 5-10 stand up comedy sets of all time. Most mainstream comics study it plus Robin is one of the few who made it thru Juilliard so there's that as well. People will be hard pressed to find many if any other fellow comedians that have even half his resume. Very sad he decided to go this route but it reminds everyone just how serious mental health is and also depression.
  8. One of the best ever, underrated stand up once his movie career took off. Dead Poet's Society and Good Morning Vietnam always stood out to me. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2evBgJn1038 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Wab0-PZgwQ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ZJCDTKU_-E https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QzXPXdMr6bU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aRD-6Kueu1A His Met performance from the 80s. R.I.P.
  9. QB-Blaine Bad Gabbert is SO bad "HOW BAD IS HE?!" He's so bad he went to throw a bachelor party and it was intercepted by the police. When Coach Harbaugh was asked about the 2nd team offense he simply said "We were just Blaine Bad, that's all there is to it.
  10. Or as some would say, being slow enough to not outrun your blocks even when you try.I'm not trying to argue with you or anyone specifically but I think Fred Jackson was or is a guy who is one of the mot patient RBs at waiting for blocks to happen. Jackson is no speed demon but his patience allows him to usually find yards and gain positive yards plus he breaks a heckuva lot of tackles. Is there a reason you are bearish on Hyde? He is one Gore strain from seeing a rather sizable workload on a team with a ferocious OL and SB aspirations. You're a reasonable guy, what is it you're not liking here, you mentioned speed so I got that written down, what else? I haven't said I didn't like him. I said he looked decent. The only thing I don't really like is the preseason over reactions. Especially to a couple of runs that were perfectly blocked and didn't really show much of anything. Anyone bumping him off of this game is pushing an agenda IMO. All fair points and you're right, you never said you didn't like him so give me back those words, tyvm. Let's focus on the run that Kenny King highlighted for us earlier. You state you see great blocking and that's true. I also see a guy who has a nice 1st step or burst to break it to the outside and up the sidelines before 2 guys corral him. I don't think i have an agenda but Chris Johnson had the ball in space for NY last night if you have a chance to pull the game tape, lot of space and not much happened(pass play). Even if Hyde is simply capitalizing on the #1 OL in football...SO WHAT!? I'm just pointing out that you make an excellent point, his OL blows the snotbubbles out of the defense, fine by me. Again like your posts, understand the preseason hype getting out of control, can't disagree but I think there's real gold in them there hills. I'll even go a bit further. At some point in 2014, be it a Gore calf strain on a stretch run before the playoffs and they want to rest him, or perhaps nothing to do with any strains or down time, but I think Hyde will have a handful of big games that get folks attention. Trying to predict those games will be difficult at this moment but things are looking good so far for him. The situation is proving itself with the talent he is surrounded by. My gut says 2014: Handful of big games and sets up nice for a larger share in 2015.

  12. You hear the announcer in the NFL studio emphasize the blocking over anything spectacular that Hyde did. That said, I think it's possible the Niners' OL might supply him with a few more opportunities over the regular season Having a spectacular OL that gets the credit over his talent for the majority of his runs does not deter me in any way from wanting to draft him. I like situations over talent many times. Being patient and allowing the blocks to take shape is not a bad thing.
  13. Tough to tell. Not sure if everyone knows but you can order re-runs of all the preseason games on your computer, like $20 thru NFL.com and then you can watch the games and weigh in. Some think he looked slow, I thought he had big holes but he is not a super speed back to my knowledge, assume he will be a battering ram type. Emmitt Smith wasn't the fastest guy but he could sure follow blocks and break tackles when need be. Hyde is no Smith but just offering some perspective.
  14. What RB is going 1st overall now? I would assume no higher than about 4th or 5th depending on the league make up. I don't see Hyde as a big threat receiving, he could develop into 1,200 yd, 10 TD guy if he can get goal line work but there is some ceiling with him in PPR leagues IMO.
  15. A welcome face to the SP, good to see you. And Hyde's a beast just waiting for Gore to finally croak. And I love Gore but that OL is made to blow holes open and RBs to capitalize which will eventually help that anemic passing game become more prolific. My take.
  16. Looks like the pats showed their hand for the season tonight. Ryan Mallet is the new QB and they will only be able to run about 25 plays a game(Is that a typo?-CBS). 12 passes, 13 runs for the entire game? I'm sure BB and the Pats take these preseason games as seriously as we do.
  17. I feel like Nelson has earned the right to be drafted pretty high. In sat seasons owners have been able in many drafts to grab him at a slight discount. I hope he makes it out of the 2nd but I won't be surprised after Marshall is taken if folks aren't quick to snatch him up.
  18. Of course my numbers project out to a 16 game season. Has the NFL shortened their season and I somehow missed it, or are you definitively projecting Vereen to only play 8 games again this year? Because if you're not projecting a halving of his utilization, it kinda HAS to be one or the other. People did the same with Amendola last year and started reaching for him in the 3rd round, 4th in most drafts. He had/has a lengthy injury history. I usually like my players who I plan on starting to be able to show that they can stay moderately healthy and relevant for weeks and weeks at a time. Have you looked over Vereen's career numbers to this point? He is almost a non factor in the running game, perhaps that changes in year 4 but at the end of the year last season he avg 2 carries per game, that's a FACT! Now you want folks to adopt your projections of 16 games and receiving numbers that could possibly crack some all time numbers for RBs. I'm not here to try and rain on anyone's parade, I'm asking questions because the price tag on him for basically a single threat RB seems high. Yes Sproles produced some really big numbers in the receiving department in NO but he also did it there for a few seasons, granted no one was sure when he went to NO exactly what his role would be. FBG has him about mid 5th, that's almost the 6th round. I think in many local Hooters draft leagues you can get him in the 5th-6th, that might not be too bad honestly. I see people talking 4th which means a panic and some folks reaching in the 3rd. Andre Ellington is about the same size, had about 1,000 combined, less than 150 carries and just under 40 receptions and he is going mid 3rd. I think this should be an open dialogue and there doesn't need to be a rush to be right or wrong one way or the other. I'm just trying to ask what i feel are logical questions based on stat history of RBs who lean heavily on the passing game.
  19. he left early week 16 with a groin injury he caught 12 balls on 17 targets in week 14, so I have no idea wtf you're talking about there His last 3 games of 2013, am I seeing things? I see 3 out of 7 targets, 1 out of 2, and 3 out of 5 or 7 receptions as I mentioned. Game 14-12/15 3 receptions Game 15-12/22 1 reception Game 16-12/29 3 receptions http://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/V/VereSh00/gamelog// Difference between weeks and games. Do his last 3 weeks of the season show the numbers I highlighted or no? I'm kind of surprised folks are getting that dicey about this. I linked to PFR, can anyone explain the Pats game plan those last 3 weeks of 2013? Here's a real shocker, Vereen in 3 seasons has not gone over 700 yards combined, never had 100 carries in a season either. To act like there is no risk here or possible swings is a little obtuse IMO. But to each their own.

  21. I think 8-10 is generous, I highlighted his largest number of attempts, he doesn't routinely get 10 carries a game. 106/21=5 rush attempts per game the last 2 seasons vs Ridley 468/30=15+ per game. With White entering the picture I don't see Vereen getting a larger share of the pie. Especially with more weapons and more guys coming back healthy to start the season. I see him in the 850-1,000 yds total for the season and TD will be harder to predict but he isn't gonna see a lot of red zone looks on the ground. What are your totals right now or do you go more on a feeling/Info read than hard stats? Was Vereen hurt weeks 14-16 last year? He got all of 6 rushing attempts with Ridley in the dog house at the time IIRC and he racked up 7 total receptions over those same 3 weeks. He did manage a couple TDs but that seems kind of fluky on such a low number of attempts and covers up some interesting numbers. Food for thought, always like your posts.
  22. possibly 2012 BTW, 49-19, same Jets where Sanchez ran into the butt of his OL. And that was Vereen's only receiving TD all season. In fact he only caught only 58 yards worth of offense the other 15 games combined. well, he was in on 13% of the snaps that year, with woodhead getting 34%. is this actually the snap distribution you're predicting for 2014? Good question. I gotta think about that, I'll get back to you.
  23. I added a few more notes but I don't think they can rely on the play you highlighted to rest their season on Can I get some Kool-Aid while you're standing there? Thanks bud. I don't hate him, he just is gone before I would want to draft him, that's a fair statement.
