  1. The responses here are more anti-Bell than I thought, which confirms to me that there are some smart people around these parts. There's a non-zero chance that Bell's fantasy football value is at or near its ceiling. The story about Bell reporting during the bye week does not guarantee any of the following: that Bell reports during the bye that Bell has a clear path to volume if he reports that Bell doesn't suffer an injury as a result of being in less than "football shape" that Bell plays through such an injury that the team is even good enough to support an RB1 So while the story provides hope to most of those fantasy GMs that have hung on, it's also still a reminder that nothing is definite. There could be rare instances where those rostering Bell have wanted to move him but couldn't find a suitor because there was no clarity. This report adds clarity, which could yield offers. If I'm 0-4 or 1-3 (which is likely for a team that picked Bell at 1.01 or 1.02), I'm looking to move him now. At his best, Bell is a dollar bill, but I'd take a few quarters and a dime for him now. Desperation should drive action.
  2. After a hiatus, we're bringing the Player Spotlight threads back to the Shark Pool. For those who are new around here, the Player Spotlights are a key feature of our preseason on the site. They're in-depth looks at key players, including pros and cons, and our staff projections. For years, we also included the best commentary from the Shark Pool. A few years ago, activity in the Pool died down and commentary waned. But, we have confidence in a resurgence. So here's the deal. Discuss your thoughts about the player in question. We'll pick the best comments from the bunch and use them (and give you credit) in the published articles. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Joe Mixon, RB - Cincinnati Bengals After significant hype entering his rookie season, Mixon's statistics were disappointing. It's no secret that Cincinnati's offensive line was abysmal last season, but they've upgraded the unit via free agency the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft. The team did little at the running back position to generate competition for touches, leaving third down work between Mixon and Giovani Bernard as the biggest question around Mixon's opportunity. Mixon's talent was never questioned and is still present. With another year of experience and a better offensive line, can he produce better numbers in 2018? Is the middle of the third round (RB 15-18 range) a fair price for him?

It feels like Jones is a prime example of that. With similar stats over last three seasons (including his final year in Cincinnati), Jones rarely generates any buzz and is almost considered a "sexy" pick. But he returns to Detroit, where his position on the depth chart and target pecking order is solid and stable. Tell us what you think of Jones' prospects for 2018. Will his 55 / 930 / 4 (103 targets) from 2016 and his 61 / 1,101 / 9 (107 targets) from 2017 remain consistent? Or will those lines take a noticeable increase or decrease?

  5. I love the point made by @Mookie about the supporting cast in KC. Remember when this offense was as "blah" as it got? You could argue that was the case as few as two years ago at this time. The 2016 Chiefs ended the season led by Travis Kelce (85), Tyreek Hill (61), and Jeremy Maclin/Chris Conley (44 each) in receptions. Heading into that season, no one knew who Hill was (other than knowing his off-the-field history), and Maclin was still an underappreciated (and, therefore, "unsexy") player. This team has gone through a significant turnaround at the skill positions and still has Andy Reid at the helm. To me, Mahomes has to be wildly underwhelming to hold this offense down. Do we have any dissenting opinions out there? Or are we all that much smarter than a fantasy community drafting him at QB16 right now? What are the naysayers leaning on when they keep him out of the top-14? Or top-12?

The 10th overall pick in the 2017 draft, Mahomes has the tools to excel in the NFL. But will he show the intangibles required to be a great starting quarterback? For fantasy purposes, will he be competent enough at reading defenses to take advantage of the mismatches his excellent supporting cast are sure to provide? Will his athletic ability provide a floor and ceiling to make him a solid return on investment? Enough questions - give me some answers!
