LOD, what's up with that in the second? Are you serious? Must be a big D homer. Do you really think that he's going to be that valuable for your team? More so than Moss or Owens would be for your squad .... Let me guess, your next pick is Troy Hambrick, huh?!?!Just kidding but it makes you wonder ----------->>>>>>>>>

I highlited that pick because it seemed highly questionable to me. I don't see how anyone could justify taking Roy Williams or any other IDP that high, given the scoring system we're using. I'm hoping that by doing this, we can put together an accurate and useful mock draft for people playing in IDP leagues. Since there is no available ADP info for IDPs, this seemed like a useful exercise. So, even though this is only a "mock" draft, please take it seriously and only make selections that you would feel comfortable with in a "real" league. Given that, I'd really appreciate some commentary and rationale for the Roy Williams selection. LOD, you around?

I have Williams rated as my #1 IDP and still wouldn't take him before the fifth round (I took him at 5.01 in the Red Eye Masters draft).

If you guys want some reference, here are a couple of drafts that I've done this offseason:

Red Eye Masters

NEXFL2

VDL

BTW, if Deuce McAllister falls to me at #7 in a draft that starts tomorrow (CSFC - non-IDP), I will cream my pants :excited:

Everything else looks pretty standard so far. It sucks to see Fred Taylor moving up the charts during the offseason, into a late first-early second slot. I was hoping that he'd be around for me more often.

hey cracker, I guess I'd be the owner you would have to thank for letting Deuce slide...I do like the guy, I just think that whole group of RBs are very similar to one another and I end up taking a different guy in each draft I'm in. I do get the feeling that Alexander is the one RB in that group that is being seriously underappreciated though. I've seen plenty of people arguing for Portis, Faulk, Deuce, and Priest but very few people seem to be talking up Alexander. To me, he's more established than Portis or Deuce since he's done it for more than just 1 year and he doesn't have the age or injury concerns of Faulk or Holmes. I also think he plays behind a great line (with Walter Jones signed) and has a very nice passing game to keep defenses from stacking 8 in the box. If I were in the 7 spot, I'd be happy with whichever back to fell to me as they will all be good and you will be getting a better RB in round 2 then any of the guys drafting ahead of you.

I turned the draft timer on and set it at 10 hours as everybody should be aware that the draft has started at this point. If an owner misses his pick, the draft will continue and that owner will be allowed to make his pick whenever he returns. To do so, just post the pick on the FBG message board so other owners know not to pick that player. If an owner misses 2 picks in a row, I guess I'll either try to find a replacement or just make the picks for him so the draft doesn't get too screwed up.

That is exactly my feeling. Seeing as how the worst I could do (in my mind) is Shaun Alexander, #7 is looking like a prime position to be in. Fred Taylor probably won't fall to me in the 2nd, but there will be a decent back.Recently, drafting out of the top spot, there wasn't a single RB option left for me 2.12. I was actually shocked, and forced to completely change my strategy. Stewart/Dunn/Thomas/Zereoue/Barlow is what remained, so I bit the bullet and took Culpepper.

Sounds like a Sandbagger move. I agree though. If you miss out on those top 18 or 19 backs, you have to look elsewhere I suppose. Cracker, you make a good point regarding draft selection. If I can't get one of the top 6 ( who in my mind would be LT, Portis, RW, Faulk, Priest, Deuce), then I'd much rather have the 9th, 10th, or 11th spot so that I might nab Edge and hit Taylor on the wrap around. IMHO, the 1st, 2nd, 7th, and 8th are places I'd rather not be in if I'm shooting for overall value in the first two rounds.

Hey guys I found out on the weekend that there is an ADP for IDPs. MyFantasyLeague.com does draft analysis for all their drafts, including the ones using IDP.

Go here and conduct a search using only 10 drafts. Most IDPs have only been in 35 or so drafts.

I was working on compiling the Zealots leagues when some guys in the FFA showed me this and saved me the effort *whew*

I select David Boston, WR, SD.
Sorry about that GD, I probably should have waited until today to turn the timer on. Anyway, I fixed it and gave you Boston. So, Big Tuna, do you really think Urlacher is worth a 3rd rounder?

I agree it's a bit early for the IDP's to come out, but at least Urlacher isn't so much of a stretch.I really wanted Harrison and Barber, but since MH went right before I could pick I figured I had to get 2 good backs. I know Taylor is still risky, but I liked his upside since I didn't have an elite RB choice. Jamal Lewis might have been the safer choice, but what fun is that? ;) I normally play in a 8 team league in a straight draft and can I just say being #12 in a serpentine just SUCKS! :o :) Keep on keeping on.Chris

Admittedly, I have not spent too much time analyzing the scoring system here.. But the league in which I play, he’s definitely a 3 rounder. Maybe a first. I also tend to weigh the best player at any position more than say the 8th best at a better position. According to our scoring system here and the projections used here at FBG he scores right around Horn type numbers for the season. That and knowing that there will be drop off after the first few LB’s selected he didn’t seem like a bad selection. I’ve made worse picks. :( If you want to see how I would truely pick in a live draft atmosphere, I probably should stop filling out the auto draft option on the link. Because that just selects the next person on my list. In a live draft atmosphere, I use other judgements, such as trends, to decide what I'll take next. If I see a run on certain positions I may grab one of those guys before they are all snapped up. Conversely, if i see that close to everyone has their full starting lineup at a certain position I may let that position slide until close to the end of the draft. I rated Urlacher slightly higher because he's a stud compared to his peers,, in my humble opinion.

Ok.. I've deleted all of my preselects..... I'll draft when it is my turn from here on out just to give a more accurate account of who I'd take, when and where.. ;) Seahawks Could Rule,,,, some day...

Sorry about the delay guys. Very surprised to see the draft moved so far today.Happy to get Heap at 4.08. I think any time you get top 3 at a position you are doing well.

I just realized that we could set this mock draft up as a free yahoo league after we're finished. Anyone have any interest in doing that? Obviously, you'd have to submit a starting lineup each week but it might make the draft more worthwhile for people. Just a thought. I'd be happy to set it up once we're finished drafting if you guys are interested.

one problem with Yahoo leagues,, they have a 25 player MAX on roster size...

yeah,, I went in and tried to create one.. It said 25 max... We could just use our first 25 picks though.
yahoo is horrible for IDPs. They have 3 categories: Any Defensive Player, Defensive Linemen (includes Linebackers), and Defensive Backs. Why on earth would they not have an individual category for linebackers?Anyway, if people wanted to do this we could change the starting requirements a bit and shorten the bench. So, we could go with a starting lineup of 1qb/2rb/3wr/1te/1pk/2dl/2lb/2db (14 players) with a bench of 11 players for a total roster of 25. For the LBs/DLs spot, people would just have to remember to only start 2 DL and 2 LB in those spots or the lineup would be considered invalid.

Sounds good to me,, just shorten the draft to 25 players. We really don't need a back up for every player drafted anyway. 25 picks will be plenty to have a back up or 2 for every position.

I don't think I can change the length of the draft once it has started. So, we can just stop it after 25 rounds if everybody is interested in keeping this draft as a league, and I'll just transfer the rosters over to yahoo.

Sorry, I'm not really interested in making this a real league because I already have too many. The fun of mocking for me is that I get to do the most exciting part of a league (drafting) without the time commitment and work required to maintain the team.If the rest of the league wants to make it a real one, I'm willing to bow out for a replacement owner.

5.07 - Jimmy Smith. I don't know if he's got anything left in the tank or not,, but in the 5th round? I'll take a chance on him.

I wouldnt be interested in being in a league, just wanted to do a mock,If it does become a league I would also give my spot to someone who wanted it.

no problem guys, I can fully relate to the feeling of being in too many leagues. It was just an idea I figured I'd throw out there to see if anyone else was interested. I'm all for mock drafting, but it's nice to figure out how well the teams did.I'd be willing to make this into a survivor league so people wouldn't have to do any work once the teams are drafted. Let me know if people would prefer that instead.

That probably sounds like the best solution Aaron. It doesn't sound like there is much interest and that way no one will have to do anything.. It would make interesting reading to see which team comes out victorious in the survivor league.

hey radballs, that was actually the 7.08 pick and a nice one BTW.I can't believe I was able to get Jeff Garcia at the 7.06 spot in this draft and that Bledsoe went ahead of him. Ahh, the joys of watching people go IDP crazy in the early rounds. :D

Funny that you mentioned your last pick Aaron, because I was just going to comment on how you stole Garcia that late. Very nice value there.

That's cool that you got garcia in the late rounds,, but how will help you in a survivor league?? Don't we got with once starting lineup then see who wins? Or can we make substitutions?

sorry, I just assumed that everybody understood what was meant by a survivor league. here is how it would work:Everybody drafts a team and then rosters are frozen for the entire season. Every week all the players are scored, and then the top 1 QB, 2 RBs, 3 WRs, 1 TE, 1 K, 2 DL, 3LB, and 2 DB are chosen and summed up for each team's weekly point total. The team with the lowest point total is eliminated and the team with the highest point total gains immunity for the following week.Playoffs: When there are only six teams left, instead of a team being booted off every week, one is booted off every two weeks by using the cumulative points of all the teams over that period. Also, during the playoff period there is no longer any immunity. So, for a 12-team league, 1 team would be eliminated each week from weeks 1 through 6. Then, another team would be eliminated in week 8, then another in week 10, then another in week 12, another in week 14, and finally the champion will be decided after week 16.Make sense? So, you need to pay close attention to bye weeks and try to figure out a way to avoid elimination for as long as possible.

Thanks for the info.. this will be my first survivor league draft...

Hello Fellow Mock Drafters.... I just found out that I am goign to be out of the office traveling with no access to the sites till next wednesday. I do apologize for this, but there is nothing I can do and I do not want to hold things up... I want to thank you for letting me work my IDP league draft here with this mock.. it is very close to the league I am in but you guys undervalue the Def players too much... with this scoring they are not worth more than a kicker in my league... we have 2 pts per tackle and 1 per assist.. The cool part is the league is like here picking all offensive players with out getting the studs on Def. Which is cool for me sense my team in our league has won 2 out of the 3 super bowls.. Anyway the mock was great for me and thanks again...Good luck with the rest of the draft .. Sorry againLOD

no problem LOD, we'll try to find a replacement for you.I don't think defensive players are undervalued...there are just many more of them so you don't need to spend high picks on them. players at positions like QB and RB especially will dry up quickly if you wait too long to fill those spots.

Hey guys, getting up to speed, here, with some comments.Roy Williams and Lewis were WAY too early here. LOD is right in that the IDP's are undervalued. LB's are OK here, but DL's don't have much separation, and the #30 only scores 2 pts/game less than the #1, making WIlliams even more of an annoying pick. Oh well. He is the best in the game, so maybe this is the year he really separates himself from the pack. Which is also the reason I didn't go Abraham or Rice at 10.03. I really thought about it, but confirming a solid QB (I'm not high on Favre fantasy wise this year.) was a little more important to me. My WR situation is dire, but there is a lot of value out there at WR right now, so I wasn't an immediate take. Colvin will be a Double digit sacker, and was the first name that popped out as missing when I did a quick perusal of the draft this afternoon. After a more thourogh lookover, I'm happy with the pick, as there isn't a LB I'd rather have that I think will be taken immediately. As another note Aaronr28, were you planning to score it yourself, because, as you know what else I'm doing, one more survivor league in FLM wouldn't be a problem :D . Let me know.

I hadn't really given much thought to the scoring issue yet as this really just started as a mock but seems more worthwhile and fun to turn it into a survivor league. If you could help out, that would be awesome.as for Roy Williams, I gave serious thought to changing that pick at the time as it just didn't make sense given the scoring system. then, when Urlacher and Lewis went in round 3 I had more concerns that this was just not going to be that useful of a mock, but luckily things slowed down a bit after the big 3 were off the board. I don't think the IDPs are undervalued that much by the scoring system. I suppose a couple tweaks could have been made (i.e., 4pts per sack) but 2pts per tackle and 1pt per assist seems a bit excessive to me.anyway, the williams pick definitely puts you at a bit of a disadvantage but you should still be able to recover. thanks again for taking over the team.

The 1/.5 vs 2/1 is essentially a 4 pt passing TD vs a 6 pt passing TD arguement. As long as everybody is playing by the same rules, then it doesn't matter. My preference is 2/1, but is a preference issue only.As for the survivor thing, no prob. I had considered doing a MBSL-IDP, but was scared off by the possible speed (Or lack thereof) of a draft. That doesn't seem to be a problem here, so no prob. FLM is one cost no matter how many leagues, so no big throwing another in the mix.

I did use this thread for some guidance when coming up with the scoring system, but I figured for the mock to have as much value to as many people it was best to keep it relatively simple and pretty standard. Regardless of scoring system, there are just a lot more quality defensive players to go around so offensive players should still be more valued in the early rounds of any draft.
