New Classic Rock Game - Guess The Theme

Recommended Posts

He said, "son now here's some little something"

And stuck them on my wall

And now my nights ain't quite so lonely

In fact i, i don't feel bad at all

Pictures of Lily made my life so wonderful

Had to Google it. Anyone depending on classic rock radio knowledge to answer this are out of luck -- you have to be into the band to hear a cut this deep.
This is NOT an obscure song. It's by a very popular band and I think it appears on their Greatest Hits album (or at least some similar compilation).

you like your life in a free-form style

you'll take an inch but you'd love a mile

there never seems to be quite enough

floating around to fill your lovin' cup

OK, I must not be as in tuned with classic rock as I thought cuz I hadn't even heard of that guy.

I felt the same way in the '80s thread.

Allmusic.com's take*:

With one or two exceptions the Who's 1960s singles were consistently brilliant, and although "Pictures of Lily" is not one of the best known of them, it was no exception.

You're right, though -- "Pictures of Lily" does appear on the major Who compilations.

* not sure if the link above will work ... some parts of the site requires free registration.

Classic rock staple on Southern stations (meaning "Jackie Blue" ... "Free Bird" goes without saying).

I know that many classic rock stations in the Southwestern U.S. (including Cali, I think) have an emphasis on metal, and more or less exclude country rock like the OMDD.

Maybe I'll pick the Marshall Tucker Band next :D

I thought a song about masturbation would be appropriate for this forum.

Jackie Blue is very valid. To show my age, I had that tune on an 8-track back in the mid-70s.

"Out here on the perimeter, there are no stars."

More than the Who song, you really have to be into this group.

I'm a big fan, and had to google :wall:

"Out here on the perimeter, there are no stars."

"Out here, we is stoned immaculate."

The Doors - "Stoned Immaculate?"

Not sure on the title.

The WASP - Texas Radio And The Big Beat

Well, it's been ten years and maybe more

Since I first set eyes on you ...

The best years of my life go by

here I am alone and blue

Led Zeppelin--Heartbreaker

Thats rock-n-roll, fellow babies!

Rooster hits the washboard and people just got to smile,

Blinky, thumps the gut bass and solos for a while.

Good one. I know the song and artist, but the next line is too garbled for me to snag this one.

Just try your best. It's a pretty strange lyric.

Another google. Knew the lyric, but just couldn't place it. Might as well give the answer and move on.

True - looking at it, it shouldn't have been. But they either hit you right away, or they don't.

when it's only a few words, it's harder. There's less info, there are more possibilities and you can't get a sense of the rythm of the song.
