The Bears' search for an outside linebacker moved to the next level Wednesday, with the team hosting Anthony Simmons at Halas Hall.

The former first-round pick of the Seattle Seahawks underwent a physical and had a get-acquainted session with coaches and management. Simmons is the first known linebacker the Bears have brought in, signaling he is likely their top choice to play alongside Brian Urlacher and Lance Briggs.

Whether the Bears will be able to lure him in with a contract for the veteran minimum remains to be seen. Hunter Hillenmeyer is tops on the depth chart at strong-side linebacker, but when the rookie minicamp ended recently, coach Lovie Smith said the team might not be done with free-agent shopping.

Any more news? I can't believe he still hasn't signed with someone.

The rumor mill indicates the Bears had serious reservations about a wrist that had been operated on earlier in the offseason which supposedly would have forced Simmons to remain out of action at the start of training camp.If he proves to be healthy he'll sign somewhere. He has too much talent and no serious baggage-
