On Version O, each position tab had extra players added to the bottom of the page (below the "ZZ - Add Player" rows). These players were not listed on versions before and after. Will these players, specifically James Jones, be added again to future versions? How come these players were not just incorporated into the overall position lists (blue cells)? Thanks.

Internally, we keep two spreadsheets. One that is released each week with the basic players that get drafted in typical drafts... and another one that goes a little deeper that is used as the basis for the DD Player Pool. Version O was released by accident. If the players down there, become more likely to start, they will get moved up though into the blue cells.

Thanks for the response Bruce. I usually print out the overall lists on the "input" tab. I want the projected stats for every player I can get. Some of the added players in Version O had better projected stats than some of the other players at their position. Hopefully some of these guys will be added soon. Thanks again.

note 1 - sorry if this has been covered, i couldnt find anything on it

note 2 - i posted this on the general board as well, as a new topic, then realized it probably should have been posted here. sorry for the duplication....

first time using this tool (my auction is 2 days before season starts)....

if i have the setting for 10 teams, 2 QB... thats a total of 20 QB to be selected. The 20th QB is listed with a value of $7. shouldnt he be $1? there are currently 27 QB with a value over $1. the same is true of some other positions.

also, if i add up the values of all the players who will be selected (top 20 qb, top 10 kickers, etc...) it comes to a total of $2094 being spent, when there will, in actuality be $3000 spent.

hope someone can explain to me! if this tool works out for my auction, i think itll really give me an edge. i'll post my league settings below in case you were wondering....

note: i dont think it should matter for this, but on the individual pages for QB, RB, etc. i have deleted the value in the "fantasy points" column and replaced it with my own projections in some cases, then re-generated cheetsheet.

10 teams, $300 cap. 2 QB, 2 RB, 3 WR, 1 flex RB/WR, 1 TE, 1 K, 2 DEF (team).

i have the following settings on the "input tab"

auction on, team cap $300, fudge 0.00, min bid $1

rounds of draft 0, teams 10, qb 2, rb 2, wr 3, te 1, pk 1, def 2, db 0, lb 0, dl 0

flex 2.7, 3.3, 1

Man oh man, I must be losing it.

When I try to open the latest Dodds VBD, all I seem to get are the QB’s. I must be doing something wrong. Any ideas?

Here’s what I’m doing.

1. I go to the VBD app page (pasted portion below) and click on either one.

VBD Application (Updated 6/9 by David Dodds, Exclusive to Footballguys.com)

VBD Application Zipped File

Ver 2009C1 - Premium (Updated 6/9)

VBD Application Excel File

Ver 2009C1 - Premium (Updated 6/9)

2. It says “File Download” and gives me the option to “open” or “save”. I click on “open”.

3. I get the spreadsheet for QBs, and it says the macros are disabled, so I click on “enable macros”.

I get something that looks like this pasted below, but all I can see are QBs.

4. What am I not doing to be able to see the rest of the positions?

5. And as a follow-up question that may explain something to you about what I’m doing wrong, I can’t seem to “sort” this file either. When I select all the names from Anderson to Sorgi on this list of QBs, and then sort on column AM (the Fantasy Points column), it seems to do a sort based on the last name, but not on that "fantasy points" column. Seems strange to me. Here is a paste of what I get when I sort it (I deleted a few columns on the “paste” just to be able to show you on this sheet. Thanks!

At the very bottom of the window you'll see little tabs for each of the sheets. VBD happens to open on the QB tab. You can see the other positions by clcking on the appropriate tab.

If you go to the tab that says 'Read Me First' you'll see a 'Notes' section at row 34.

Notes:

1. Macros must be enabled for this Spreadsheet to work.

2. Traditional VBD formulas have been tweaked to Joe's Secret Formulas

3. Sorting the data in the position tabs will destroy the formulas.

4. Sheet does not work on Microsoft Works (requires Excel)

5. Sheet does not work with the newest Mac version of Excel.

Good luck.

Is there a free version of this for 2009? The 'Free' portion of the FBG site still links the 2008 free version.

Go to FBG Home page, in right side scan list for "VBD Application - Dodds - 6/25" & click link. 2009A1 is the free version it comes in two ways to download.

Next time I suggest you post your ? as a new topic in the open forum where everyone will see it.

I can't seem to get this to work. Do you mean fill, not file for the last step? I seem to have the cells highlighted on the sheet, but no players in the spots. Any ideas?

I've followed the steps as described, yet it still only gives the top 60. Any ideas? I have a draft on Wed where I start 3 RB's, 3 WR's, 1 TE, 1 QB, 1K, and 1 D, so I could really use the additional player listings. Thanks fot the help! Also, do I do the steps prior to inputing my scoring or after. I've tried both ways with no success. Also for the last step when filling the series there are options for Series In-(Rows or columns), Type-(linear, growth, date, and Auto-fill), Step value, stop value, and a box for trend. How should these be filled?
I have to ask this, why is it that the player pool - rankings and VBD are so different in the DD than the VBD spread sheet? One is trying to tell me to take Fitz as Mo. 1 the other MJD - 1.5 PPR

I have been falling back to the VBD spread sheet for the last couple of years after trying to use the DD program (ditched it after it kept telling me to draft Kevin Jones I think in 2006 when I didn't want him)

I can't be the only person who get this error when running VBD:

The Macro cannot be found.

I run Excel 2008, and the help says:

Cause: Office 2008 for Mac cannot run Visual Basic macros or load add-ins that contain Visual Basic macros.

Solution: Keep the macro in the file.

You can keep a macro if you or other users need to run the macro in other versions of Office. Changes that you make to a file in Office 2008 do not affect a macro, provided that you save the file in its original file format or another macro-enabled file format. You cannot view, run, or edit the macro itself in Office 2008.

Is this really true? Is there any workaround?

I believe, and I may be wrong, that you need to run it on an earlier version of Excel because the macros need to be enabled. If this is the case, download an earlier version of Excel from Microsoft and place it somewhere where it will not interfere with your latest version.

Click Tools - Macros - Security, and make sure the Macros are enabled. The other option is to use the Draft Dominator to generate your custom cheatsheets. It doesn't not require MS Excel.

Any chance next season the spreadsheet can be done with macros in the free OpenOffice spreadsheet program, rather than Excel? Some of us don't have Excel on the home computer.

ditto. And a mac version for the draft dominator, please please please.

Hello,

I've used the VBD app with great success over the last few years (won the league last year). Thanks for the hard work.

My question is this. I like listing the top 100, and have been able to generate the top 100 using the directions at the top of this thread in the past.

I'm having trouble generating the top 100 this year. I'm using the Aug 21st update.

Thanks,

DD

Thanks for the info, just looked through the whole thread and found this on the last post.So by way of example, just to be sure ..... - I downloaded version I on 8-10-09- I go to my input tab and click on "get latest projections"- I then click on "create cheatsheetThis then gives me an updated listing based on the latest projections and I do not have to download the latest rev which is now Rev L1 which was updated on 8-25-09Correct?If the answer is yes, will FBG's advsie if there are changes to the VBD program other than updates to player stats/rankings?I recall in previous years that every once in awhile FBG's would find and fix bugsThanks and have a great 2009 season all !

Yes, however the update will NOT change the date/version displayed on the input page.

Yes, just go to FBG home page ~weekly and scroll down the list on the right. It will show the date of the update.

Have you peeked at the Draft Dominator yet? It prints out cheatsheets by position for almost all of the players... and it prints out Top 200 lists too. Actually Top 400 lists if you want them. The league variables and scoring is exactly the same as the VBD Spreadsheet.

I tried both apps, and rechecked the scoring setup, and they are showing different rankings for players. Not far off, but a few spotsAny clue as to why ??Thanks

There are literally a 100 posts on this  VBD is for a full 17 week season, with no weightings; DD is often configured for 16 weeks with weightings based on SOS.Set DD to 17 weeks, turn of the weightings and they should be identical.

Is there anyway to transfer your projections on the projection dominator to the VBD excel sheets? I usually just print of sheets from the projections dominator but would like to seperate into tiers and can only do this by transfering to VBD excel app. Really don't want to go thru each and every player and update projections if I don't have to

Thanks.

Can you take the PD numbers, import into DD, export the Player Pool as a .csv and open in Excel?

I'm looking to more correctly enter my money league's passing yardage into the Input worksheet and was hoping you could help.

Here are the relevant rules:

- 3 bonus point(s) for 200 or more yard(s)

- 1 bonus point(s) each 10 total yards, starting with 260 yard(s)

- 2 bonus point(s) for 250 or more yard(s)

So what should I be entering?

I've been simply using "0.03" in the "Pts per Passing Yard" field but only because I'm unsure of what to do.

Thanks for your time and for a great, great app.

I'm assuming you get zero points until you reach the 200 yard threshold.A (very) quick look at the projections and at least 16 (1/2) of the QB's are projected to average at least 200 yards a game (16x200=3200). Very few throw for 250 (4000 yards).I would suggest that one way to do this is 0.015 pts/yard (3/200) and then a 6 point bonus for 300 yards. (4+2)

can i still not use open office calc?

I use Open Office and it works perfectly fine for me.I do have a question though...Is there a way to change the ADP? I am in a PPR league and it appears that the ADP that is listed with the players is based on standard non-ppr. When trying to decide whether to jump on a player or wait a round or two, ADP is really useful. For instance, the ppr ADP that I've seen for Jabar Gaffney is around 10.9. The ADP on the cheatsheet is 14.01. That is a huge difference.I'm hoping to be able to just use the excel sheet this year as opposed to the DD. The DD is a little hard to keep up with in a league where the draft moves kind of quickly.

I love the Projections Dominator for doing my player projections..

And, I love the VBD Spreadsheet.... just for visual Cheetsheet, and the ability to see all the players, and VBD rankings in one sheet... but.

Is there a way to import player projections from Projections Dominator into the VBD spreadsheet? Or, do I just have to enter them all in by hand?

I have the current version installed however when I generate the cheetsheat the OVerall Column is just listing all the RB's and the Value column is messed up.

Using office 2010 macros' enabled.

Anyone? TIA.

EDIT: FIXED IT.

The flex multipliers cannot be zero. If you zero those out it causes issues.

Bruce,

In one of my leagues, WR and TE are lumped together as one position ("WR/TE"), and we start 1 RB, 3 WR/TE, and 1 flex which can be either a RB or a WR/TE. Can you help me on VBD and DD as to how to set up the flex positions?

Thanks in advance!

If you set TE Starters and Roster spots = 0 they will be grouped as WR+TE. You can then set flex to 1 RB/WR/TE and your done. Edited by GoBears84

Anyone willing to run the VBD spreadsheet with the scoring system for my league and send it to me as a PDF or something? I havent played fantasy football in 3 years now and I am way out of the loop. I plan on drafting strictly by VBD.

I am a mac person, and I cant change the scoring settings, so the version I have, while helpful, is not as good as it could be. I am a subscriber, and hopefully Joe or David or someone can verify that if need be.

I'd like to delete my league's keepers from the VBD player lists.. how can I do that without messing up the formulas?

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Just set their projections to zero.
I am in a dynasty league and we are having a rookie/free agent draft. I have set all "kept" qb and rb players (so far) to zero, however after I generate sheet the overall rankings are out of whack. For instance Kevin Kolb (a free agent in my league) has an ADP of 7.07, however Ryan Matthews who has an ADP of 2.06 is listed below Kolb in the overall.

I guess my question is, what did i do wrong and how do i fix this to show a true overall Top 60 or whatever. Basically i need an Overall that mixes in only rookies and free agents (according to keepers in my league). What is the best way to accomplish this?

Thanks for all your help!

My guess is that it's something with your VBD baseline. I don;t have enough experience with deep keepr leagues to give you insight. Play with those numbers and see if it starts to make sense....

The inability to use a Mac with the VBD and DD is ridiculous, I'm not installing software to boot in pc mode just for fantasy football. You would think with all of the money being made by Joe that he would invest some into making his software more mac friendly.

I will be in a league with a starting roster of 2 QBs, 2 RBs, 3 WRs, 1 Flex(RB or WR), 1 TE, 1 K, and 1 Defensive Team with 7 Bench. Our scoring is very high like a Point per Reception, bonus points for Yardages(such as 3Pts for 100 Yards rushing or receiving) along with normal standard scoring. So my question is regarding when using the Projections Dominator and Draft Dominator how do I determine which of the VBD Baseline(like the Joe's Secret, Worst Scenario, or the other few to select) to use to for this type of draft?

Wow - that's out there.... I put in your setup and scoring for fun and Joe's looks reasonable. I recommend you play with them and see what makes sense to you.

I'm guessing the ROI on spending money on Mac compatibility development just isn't there. There aren't enough of you out there to warrant it.

I can't answer for the FBG's, but from what I've read in threads where Joe or David have commented, Bruce isn't full time, though they would like to have the resources to do that. The time spent this year on APPS was on the mobile apps. It's recognized that DD needs to go to the MAC but they just haven't had the resources to devote to it yet. That's just my interpretation...

x2I use DD with PD as my main drafting but I like the visual referential backup of the look of the simple VBD spreadsheet and would love to import the weighted PD stats into it.

Has anyone come up with a macro that will color the player names if they're on a keeper list? For example, I put my players in green, my rookies in light blue, all other taken players in red, and all other taken rookies in dark blue. For one league, that's only 36 players, but for another, it's 264 players! It would be nice if I could just have the list in a worksheet and run a macro such that if a player is on the list, it will automatically do the coloring for me.

You can do this by putting something in front of the first name of the players (I just use "x-") and then use conditional formatting in Excel to shade it whatever color you want. For me, the formatting checks if =LEFT(A1,2)="x-" and turns the field dark gray with a strike through on it.
