Assani's Poker Thread (1 Viewer)

Its only 3:00, but I'm gonna call it a day. Very very successful today. I won a little over $2000 more on this last session bringing my Day 5 total to +$6989, my best day yet!

AF-

All the pros on FullTilt are clearly demarcated in red on the lists of tables, so they're very easy to find. I've seen them at all limits and games, even Phil Ivey playing .5/1 NL (with a waitlist of over 100). With the pros however, come people who are willing to play over their heads/skill level for a good story. There are lots of fishies who are willing to follow around the pros.

The overall level of play there, IMO, is pretty good though. If I wanted to find the worst players with money to burn, I'd look to some of the poker sites that are tied to online casinos, ie. Bodog, Pacific Poker, etc.
Agree completely.

1. I'm pretty arrogant regarding my poker skills, but theres no way I'm arrogant enough to think that I can keep this up. Losing streaks are bound to come. Lets keep in mind that I had a $6K 2-outer on day 2, and that if I didn't get 3rd in that tourney(and with about 20 people left I was down to 1.5 big blinds) then I also would've had a losing day 4.2. I would most likely do this for 100 days even if I reached the goal before then.

3. If there is interest and I'm winning, then I could potentiall continue on after that. I'll find out what the concensus is around here and with other people reading it(my "blog views" on myspace have increased 10x the past few days). If people want me to keep going, then theres really no reason for me to stop as I think that this only helps me play better since I have to "be accountable" for my plays.

Where did the term "donk" come from?
I dunno...its a pretty stupid term imo, but they use it all the time over at 2+2, and I heard a ton of people use it down in A.C.
It is short for donkey I would think. Jackass.I can't get enough of this thread. Keep it coming.
Donk = Donkey = Jackass = Someone just carrying chips around for others

I'm still voting that at some point you head over to Full Tilt and take on the Red Names. Perhaps after you hit your goal or something.

Still no love for my ifriend request? Eh, I'll keep checking the blog either way, good stuff.

May have even inspired me to get back into playing as a side job again.

whats the point of going over to full tilt to risk thousands of dollars, when he is already successful on party poker? Just to say he played or beat pros? Its not worth it..plus they have more money to burn than AF

Day 6

2/8/05

Obviously things have been going great for me so far. But lets remember that I had a $6K 2-outer on day 2, and that if I didn't get 3rd in that tourney(and with about 20 people left I was down to 1.5 big blinds) then I also would've had a losing day 4. I am very fortunate to be off to such a great start. I just have to ride the wave for as long as it goes because its inevitable that a losing streak will eventually follow.

I went and played basketball to start my day. Then got some lunch. Around 4:30 now, and I'm ready to begin. Probably won't be playing in any tourneys today. We'll go with 4 tables of NLHE to start things off...

Half hour in and absolutely nothing noteworthy yet...up a few hundred all based on small pot wins.

pretty big laydown.

I'm a big fan of opponents who play like this.

Going out to the bar. Will play later if I'm not too drunk. Disappointing night. Stats for this session:

734 hands played

10% hands won

76% showdowns won

20% flops seen

-$5444

Ok, back from the bar, which sucked....I need to find some new places to go to. Actually in a worse mood now than when I left. A little drunk, but not too bad. I'm down a little less than $4K on the day I think, and I really want to get back to even, although I'm not going to play stupidly and chase in order to do it. I may play 8 tables though. We'll see...I'll start with 4 and see how things go.

Ok, I've decided on 6 tables as a compromise. Plus that way I can still surf the internet while playing with no overlap. I really do want to get back over even just so I can keep my streak of winning days in tact. I'm not going to be stupid though...If I'm too drunk and I start to play badly and lose then I'll quit, but if I can put something together, then I'm going to try to play until I'm up.

Not a bad turn and river here.

Tantrumdude doesn't show [ 3s, 3c ] two pairs, queens and threes.

AssaniFisher wins $469 from the main pot with a full house, Queens full of aces.

So after a few hands, its apparent that Tantrumdude's strategy is to buy in for $400 and either fold or go all in preflop...just genius strategy there.

Getting very frusterated...not getting paid off on any big hands, yet every bluff has gotten called so far.

Pokerwerx(the guy who played AJ against me after 2 raises preflop) is now routinely raising to $300 preflop when its only $20 to go...If I can't take money off idiots like this then I shouldn't even be playing poker.

Would be interested in hearing thoughts on this hand. Couldn't imagine him having a flush after betting in LP throughout and thought that it would be best to try to induce a bluff rather than to bet out after the flush hit.

Its only 3:00, but I'm gonna call it a day. Very very successful today. I won a little over $2000 more on this last session bringing my Day 5 total to +$6989, my best day yet!

Totals to date:

5 Days

$24,675
Are you gonna stop at 100K or keep going until the 100 days runs out?Set new targets?

I'm still voting that at some point you head over to Full Tilt and take on the Red Names. Perhaps after you hit your goal or something.
I'm hoping that I soon will be a red name. ;) Honestly though, its not a huge deal to me to play with any of them. I'm sure I will sit with most of the top pros someday. Until then, I'm just focused on building my bankroll.

Heh, I realize that Assani. It's the smart way to go. But I'm living vicariously through you and your high stakes exploits, and it ups the ante a bit to battle those guys and gals.

I still think Kerry Collins is a #####, but you got some SERIOUS stones, jw.

That's what's needed to do what you do. I admire it.

Assani,

First of all, congrats on the great start.

I do have a question that I hope you don't mind answering.

Prior to you starting this quest, you were an excellent poker player. I seem to remember something though where you said you were financially broke, started selling door to door, built a small amount of cash, and started playing poker again.

Assuming your play was profitable in the past, how did you end up broke? Did you get to playing over your head? Did you go on mega-Tilt?

I am curious, and also think it might help you if the board understands this, and we MIGHT be able to help you avoid the same mistake.

I also know I might have the story mixed up, and I apologize if I do.

If you don't think winning 25 large in online poker in 5 days is "uber-cool", I don't think I can help you.

I went through a tough time early in 2005. My father passed away. I broke up with my girlfriend("Krysten" on my myspace page for those who will undoubtedly ask for pics. And stay away, Otis! lol). And I just wasn't happy overall. Not surprisingly, this caused a downfall in my play. I honestly couldn't even see it happening, but I went from a long term winning player to being $8K in debt in the matter of a few months.

I had come close to broke once before but this was a lot worse. The first time, I was a student in school when most of my peers were broke anyway. And I got down to about $2K in my bankroll and then won $13K in a MTT to help get me back on track.

However, this time was a lot different. I wasn't in school anymore, and I had bills to pay. I was forced to get a pretty crappy $10/hour job, and then I started to work for Cablevision doing sales. I got back on my feet with that and started playing again. After I won $33K in a MTT, I quit my job and started playing cards again.

I've learned a ton, and I'm a much better player now(I was a tourney specialist back then and probably couldn't even win in the games I'm now playing). Those struggles have helped me become stronger.

I wish I weren't so lazy, I would sit and study your play and quit my job and do the same thing.Come to thing of it...

I too find myself peeking into this thread a lot. I am off to a great year too, but it's not even close to what Assani is doing here (My numbers are averaging in the $700 a day category). Thanks so much for posting your hand histories. It will likely improve all of our games. And I for one hope you make 300K+ in your 100 days.

Dodds, just curious...Are you still playing PLOh/l8 a lot? What are your usual game choices(and what site)? Do you have a real job? How many hours do you usually log per day?

I ask because I know that you are very serious about poker and I"ve seen you around a few times sitting in the same games as I am.

Playing almost entirely PLO these days. While visiting Damon Young (cosjobs) in Austin, I made $3,800 playing only a few hours in PLO. He saw me hit for $2500 in less than an hour. I won the rest playing in the hotel computer room.I have also been hammering away at a lot of sitngos as I just made Party VIP status and that is an easy way to clear the points needed. Those have been moderately successful, but I think my concentration on PLO is affecting my Holdem game. I am still cashing OK at these, but the last 20 I did saw my rate at 37% (well below my 45% average before). I have stumbled the last few times at NL ring at the levels you play at and have decided to go back to playing Holdem at Poker Room (5/10 NL) until I get my swagger back. For the year, I am up $34K this year ($28K of that coming in January). I am playing at least a few hours every day now that football season is over.

Up 34k this early in the year is still damned respectable DD

Is this inclusive or exclusive of money loaned to Damon?

Damn I gotta step up my play. I am only at 28K for the year.

But this is an itneresting read and good luck on this quest. Over on 2+2 a guy is trying to do 100K in 8 weeks.

Also Dodds and Assani what were your VIP offers for the new promo. Mine sucks at 450 dollars for 13320 points every week. Which is about 10K hands at 10/20 6max.

what forum is this in, High stakes? You have a link? I'd be interested in reading that. What site do you play on TeeJayOrTj?
Here is the linkThe guy is going to 10 table 15/30 for a ideal 2.2 BB/100 winrate for 8 hours a day. Its obviously a long shot. He is getting 10K through VIP with this deal.

I play 99% of the time on PP. Mainly the 10/20 game but I am mixing in about 3k hands a week at 20/40 starting this week.

I just recently started playing a lot at Party, so was surprised to get any offer at all. In fact, I just made Silver status today. But I am sure I had in excess of $2000 in rake paid last month since I spent a lot of time at the $2000 tables. They offered me $125 for 785 points. I should easily be able to double this with no problem so this should be a nice bonus for me. I think the super low point number for me is because I generally only play NL and they give hardly any points for that. But they do give a lot of points to SNG so I will just do those to get the bonus.

Yeah I would certinly double that every week for the next two weeks. If you do that you get $2500. Not bad. It is true you NL guys are getting better dollar to point ratios because of the low points accumulated. Also, they only update your Silver or Gold status every 3 months. So I think April 1st is the next time they update.I am gold so that helps me out quite a bit in my quest to get 13K points every week.

I used to play STTs all the time and was racking up huge point totals. Now with NL ring games, I'm barely getting anything at all, and it seems impossible to reach my goal.

What websites/books would you recommend for six max? I'm starting to get back into limit HE, but it's pretty obvious that short-handed HE is a lot more profitable (and exciting) than full table play.
