Trouble getting pregnant? (1 Viewer)

Well, the long road finally came to an end. Had our little girl last night and she's doing great. Thanks again for all the well wishes in here and best of luck to those of you still trying and getting some advice/comfort from here.
Congratulations, that's fantastic news. Enjoy parenthood!
She's got an almost eight year old brother. Just gonna have to learn this diaper thing again. Thanks :)

Had a 13 week ultrasound yesterday. Showed 2 little ones in there, both with all the requisite parts. It was really amazing to see the imaging.

For all those struggling, there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Keep your chin up and keep fighting.

10 week ultrasound is next Wednesday. I've been kind of :scared: up until this point, but I've been getting bloodwork done 2x/week and we have had our 7 week (heartbeat) ultrasound, and all signs point to this thing being a "go".

That's incredible. Very happy for you. And I agree completely with the sentiment. With our boys at 3.5 and 1.5, it's incredible to see the joy in their life and not even really think about all the emotional drama we had to go through to get here. I wouldn't change it for the world now.

Did the transition from my fertility guy to the OB who will take us through the rest of the pregnancy this morning. I'm only 10 weeks, 5 days, but the ultrasound tech said we could go ahead and try an abdominal ultrasound. It was awesome - AND, we got to hear the heartbeat for the first time.

I'm not an overly emotional type and can even be cynical at times, but damn, hearing that heartbeat might be the coolest thing I've ever experienced.

 Congrats again!

Anybody who had a kid through IVF given consideration to whether you'll tell the kid when he/she is older? I think my daughter would think it was cool, but when I mentioned the possibility to my wife a few months ago she seemed reluctant.

Honestly I haven't given it a second thought.

Looks like we'll be trying soon. I'm the problem not her. I'll have to go back and read this thread from page one. I have a "low count". :(

We definitely will. Its not something we are ashamed of.Also, this is a good thread to bring me off the ledge on days like today when JR woke up at 5:15 singing John Jacob Jingleheimer Schmidt at the top of his lungs. Going to drink a lot of coffee today.

Wait, what? No idea you were even in a relationship right now. Anyway, good luck with the fertility stuff. We need to start a subforum on the other board just for dudes with lousy sperm.

IUI will be your friend. If it's anything like my experience, they'll parade you through the waiting room into a tiny room filled to the gills with porn. Your challenge will be to avoid touching anything while still completing your bizness. Then they find the good stuff and jam the ol' turkeybaster up there to give it a fighting chance. And *wala*, your life is screwed.... I mean YAY.

I need back in the other board. Something wrong with my ID/password for last 2 or 3 months.

After two years of trying the natural way and some recent testing we are going all in with IVF. We are both 37 and we just don't want to beat around the bush with some of the other technologies given our age. My wife came back with a relatively high FSH number (15) and we know that is a bad sign but I think we would kick ourselves if we didn't try. Our first trip to the fertility clinic is next week. I think we have decided to go two cycles of IVF max and if it doesn't work, it doesn't work....but we'll see. I can only imagine once you are all got up in this that it might be hard to stop.

Good luck. Have yourself tested also.

I have already been tested...i'm not great but should be fine. motility was 85%, count 15 million and morphology was 97% or something like that...Its her age and the FSH we are worried about...we have read a lot of clinics will turn you away with an FSH > 15

Good luck.Sounds like you're ready for IVF, but don't discount IUI if it's recommended. We were both the same age as you guys (I was little older and with miserable morphology... "monster-headed junk", IIRC) and had good success with IUI (eta: 2 kids conceived this way, the first one on the first attempt) at our doctor's recommendation. Also less expensive as our insurance covered it, but not IVF. FWIW, to you or anybody else- my wife kept her her Gonal F from the last one... already gotta be 2 years old (the medicine, not the kid). Don't know the shelf life of this stuff, but it's been kept refrigerated the entire time. She keeps talking about giving it back to the Doc, but I'd rather give it to one of you guys quite frankly. I'd also like to get it the hell out of our fridge. Let me know and I'll run it up the flagpole since she has the final word in this and everything remotely related to my balls.

I could be wrong but with the higher fsh value for my wife the IUI doesn't have a great success rate. Did you guys deal with a higher FSH number???Thanks for the advice though!

yeah... well- :bag: this stuff is over a year expired. now, if it was the MIL, she would say no problem, still good. but since I'm only lazy and dumb but not insane, I don't think I'll be keeping this.

I still won't throw it out without checking with the dragon lady.

You don't need to explain. Those of us that have struggles understand the anxiety and emotional turmoil this causes. Best of luck.

Has anyone either donated their embryos or received an embryo for donation? Our clinic said that process could take well over a year, and we're tying to decide how long to keep them frozen vs. donating due to expenses.

If so, any recommendations on firms? It's completely up to us to find them....I can do a search, but figured I'd start here.

Our 1.5 year old twins are the result of a frozen embryo transfer using donated embryos! We used the NEDC out of Tennessee. We were very happy with our experience with them.

Thanks  About how long did the process take for you? Do you know if it's similar for the donors? Is there contact b/w the families, etc?

Took us about a year to go through the process... paperwork, consultation, appointment, etc. We did a closed embryo adoption, so no contact, but we have basic information about the donors incl. height, weight, hair color, likes/dislikes, family medical history, etc. (but no names, etc.). There are open adoptions available where you exchange names, pictures, etc. We would have done open, as we have 2 traditional open adoptions, but they had this dumb extra fee, like $3k, for open adoptions. I think they just incorporate that fee for all recipients now.I think donors are completely different, just fill out paperwork and you are good to go. Probably less than a month or two I would guess.

I wouldn't mind seeing it.

Good luck Wooderson!Just thought I'd give a little PSA. I'm in a local twins group, and most of us have twins because of fertility treatments, and prior to having kids the doctors told most of us that having kids on our own would be next to impossible (ie: <5%) Today there are four couples that are pregnant by accident. Be careful everyone!
