Big Papi Ortiz Out Indefinately (1 Viewer)

NY/NJMFDIVER

Apparently in relation to the heart ailment he underwent treatment for a few weeks ago. A sincere get well soon to him, he's a Yankee killer but he's great for baseball.

But as an aside, if he's out for the rest of the season, how can anyone but Jeter take the MVP?

For what he's done to the yanks, i hate him, but he seems like a decent dude. Hope he gets better.

That being said, this combined with Manny's aliment, pretty much burries the socks.

Is Dye the MVP of his own team? I'd put Thome ahead.Ditto Santana/Lirano on the Twinkies
Dye is the unquestionable MVP of the White Sox as of right nowHigher BA .325 - .293More RBI 102 - 91More HR 38 - 36Higher SLG .649 - .614Comparable OBP .391 - .413Other advantages for JD. Acually plays defense, and is carrying his team down the all important stretch (we all know how MVP voters love this) while Thome's on the bench nursing a hammy.

Another Yankee fan here to say BEST WISHES TO PAPI !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hope All is well!!

It won't be the same or nearly as exciting to not have him tearing it up down the stretch.

Derek Jeter has been the glue for the Yankees all year and his team is leading it's division.
I would agrue that Damon deserves it just as much as Jeter does.Having a career year in a whole bunch of cats and when the season started, he was the only OF that was a question mark health-wise, and he's the last of the original 3 standing going on two months now.

He might be the pleasant surprise of the year, but he's no MVP. It's not like the WORLD CHAMPIONS are starved for talent.

Mauer is the leader in half the categories, and will likely be the first catcher to win the batting title in over 60 years. Like I said, if the Twins catch the Tigers, it's his.

So someone suggesting that he's *gasp* the 3rd-best candidate for this award is a "hater"?
No, Einstien, but those who haven't mentioned him at all might be.
Why do they need to mention him... you already did. Their intentions when replying in this thread were to provide other candidates who might be contenders in their minds. Not sure how this makes them "haters". (which, by the way, is an idiotic term)

I don't think Ortiz has used steroids or HGH. He's always been a big dude.

This seems like a bizzare reaction to this news. I think the last thing that would come to my mind upon hearing that Ortiz is out is "well who gets the MVP now?"

Well you don't have Derek Jeter sheets on your bed... you gotta try to get inside the mindset of the original poster to understand the motive

Fair enough, Dye has outnumberd Thome, he's been hot and Thome cold and I haven't kept on Chisox stats. I didn't realize he'd been that hot.But that said, I'd like to see them win the division if he or the Twins guys get the MVP.

Why, is he dying? God forbid he is, but this looks like an ailment that will sideline him, potentially for the season, but not end his career. Were there some evidence that his career or life were in danger, then we can all put on our black armbands in the FFA, but until then, this is part of his being on the shelf.
