Top 2, imo, does not change from February of this year w/ Stewart's strong performances lately in games that really mattered. Olson is gone from the top 12. Mendenhall's amazing run puts in the top 5 in my book. I still think Slaton is coming out since White will be gone. People aren't sure about DeSean Jackson - but for wideouts, to me, the desire is almost as important as the measurables - and he has that chip on his shoulder that can't be measured.

I'm a big Notre Dame fan and I honestly don't see Walker as even a first round draft pick, let alone top 5. He's a solid college RB but doesn't have the size, speed, moves or power to be a first round pick.

wow, that's some love for Chauncey Washington. A few things of note Ramonce Taylor BTW is not on Texas anymore. Fred Davis is playing TE for USC. I'd look at other guys like:

- Darren McFadden, RB Arkansas

- Jamaal Charles, RB Texas

- Jonathan Stewart, RB Oregon

- Steve Slaton, RB West Virginia

- Sidney Rice, WR South Carolina

- James Hardy, WR Indiana

- DeSean Jackson, WR Cal

- Patrick Turner, WR USC

I like this list a lot. Didn't Washington just lose the starting job to freshman Emmanuel Moody?

Argh, how did I left J Stewart off?

I personally think Rice declares this year and that Taylor will be back sooner than later (unlike the Russell situation in MINN).

I am in the PAC 10, so yes, Washington has impressed me :)

Moody got the majority of the carries vs Arizona, but against Wazzu this past weekend, Washington got more. They could be splitting it like Bush/White as Moody is the fast shifty back and Washington more of the power type.

Taylor enrolled at another school already (name has slipped my mind, I'm thinking the same place Rhett Bomar went to). How often do we see kids like this come back to the university that let them go?

What about Garrett Wolfe? Is he going to be eligible at the end of this year? (N. Illinois, I believe)

No way James Davis, RB, Clemson isn't in the top 5 when he comes out. He's a surefire 1st rounder and is already the top RB in the ACC.

in 2005 as a true freshman:

165 carries for 879 (5.3 avg) 9 TDs, no fumbles

He was ACC freshman of the year.

So far in 2006:

83 carries for 512 yards (6.2) 11 TDs, no fumbles

sleeper: Ray Rice, RB Rutgers. Kinda small, but production will be off the charts when he's done

Updated w/ Ben Olson who should be Palmer-lite as soon as he comes out.

Washington OUT and Darius Walker dropped down accordingly.

I guess you're certain that both Hart & Henne are leaving A^2 early? I'd guess that all three (those two plus Mario) are '08 draftees.

Neither Ray Rice nor James Davis have really impressed me from what I've seen despite their good numbers.

I've got my top 3, and I'll leave the rest up to you guys ;) .

1. Jonathan Stewart

2. Darren McFadden

3. Steve Slaton

2008 - Year of the RB.

Tyrell Sutton should be listed with the top backs.

Ian Johnson is the real deal.

James Davis has NFL skills and he's just going to improve.

Ray Rice is another solid NFL prospect.

There's a few more. Great RB class in the works.

Sadly, I think we can give up on Lynell Hamilton, who I once pimped quite a bit.

Yep. :(

It's just way too early to know much about next year's crop. Slaton is indeed a beast, but these guys still have a lot of games to play. A bunch of unheralded players will inevitably rise up the ranks.

This list was made with the understanding that the likes of Peterson, Calvin Johnson, Rice, etc will forego their last season of eligibility.

Yup, way ahead of schedule, I know. Here are my projected top 12 (first round of a 12 teamer) in your standard non-IDP league. Obviously, it's assumed these guys wouldn't declare for the 2007 draft.1. Steve Slaton, RB, WVU2. Johnathan Stewart, RB, Oregon3. Antonio Pittman, RB, OSU4. Lynell Hamilton, RB, SDSU5. James Davis, RB, Clemson6. Jamarcus Russell, QB, LSU7. Ben Olson, QB, UCLA8. Mario Manningham, WR, Michigan9. Darius Walker, RB, ND10. Ramonce Taylor, RB/WR, Texas (COLLEGE)11. Jamario Thomas, RB, NTexas12. Brian Brohm, QB, LouisvilleHave at it. :nerd:
You may end up flip-floping Stewart and Slaton by the time fall of 08 rolls around. DeSean Jackson WR Cal looks like a good one so far as well.

:goodposting: This guy knows things. Future NFL superstar.
5'7" 170lbs!
Chicago Sun Times quoted two NFL scouts as saying Wolfe may not even be drafted because of his size. Some team may take a late flyer on him but not much more. I personally like Wolfe and have seen a number of his games, he has skills!

Maybe I need to watch more Oregon football but right now I just don't see it. Slaton has all the tools -- I would love to see him in a one-cut system like Atlanta or Denver. However, he may be Houston's 2008 chance to redeem the Reggie Bush fiasco in 2006. Houston will still be a Top 5 pick. Slaton would fit well into Kubiak's system if they can improve the OL.I am surprised many think Brohm is coming back -- I had all but written him off to enter the draft after this season. Too bad he's been nicked up, I think he's a better prospect than Brady Quinn or Drew Stanton. Aside from Brohm's physical abilities, he shows great decision-making for a QB.

No love for Super Mario Manningham? WR - Mich
Heisman canidate for 2008, 1st WR off the board. Kid knows how to play. His hands should continue to improve with another year. But he makes big plays week after week. I loved him in his freshman year, I am doing everything I can to make sure I get him in 2008.MM = PLAYMAKER

McFadden vaulted up after the huge performance yesterday.
I will argue that he should have been near or at the top before yesterday. Excellent combination of strength and speed. Looks like he can carry another 10 pounds or so easily.

Keep a lookout for DeSean Jackson, sophmore wide receiver on the Cal Bears, he may be flying under the radar now, but he might be the best WR in the Pac-10 (including Jarrett)

the lack of talk about Calvin Johnson amazes me, he has to be top 5 talent wise no question. If he gets on a team with a solid qb he's going to be a beast.

Probably because this is thread about players 2 years out in the 2008 draft, not next years. We would all be surprised if does declare for the 2007 draft.

There hasn't been a lack of talk about Johnson. A lot of people around here are very high on his prospects. I've been saying for a while that he'll warrant heavy consideration at 1.01 in PPR league rookie drafts. I think Peterson has more potential for instant impact, but Johnson might ultimately hold more value (kind of a K. Jones vs. Larry Fitz redux, although Peterson is admittedly a better prospect than Jones).

Manningham suffered an undisclosed knee injury and is out "indefinitely". I am so bummed about this. I just hope he is back at 100% for OSU.

Saw the Rutgers game today...and all I have to say is Rice = Wow.

Still, might not have the high measurables to be a HIGH 1st rounder though...

Yeah, on the breakway run lat in 3rd, he did not show that extra gear ans was ran down pretty easily. He is a tough inside runner. Looks to be more short 5'8 ish (maybe?) than truly"small"

I think he will surprise many by coming out this year, but if he stays in school, look out for Bowman, WR, Oklahoma State. This kid is a transfer from UNC and was very highly recruited. Most know him as the guy who had 300 yds receiving last week. Of that, 218 was in the 2nd half. The guy is 6'4", 220, and blazing fast. I do not have a feel for how fast yet. I say this because we all know that tenths of a second in the 40 separate the high draftees from those undrafted.

Bowman's starting QB, Bobby Reid, was knocked out early today. But, he still had a good game.

Here is his press bio: http://www.okstate.com/ViewArticle.dbml?SP...p;Q_SEASON=2006

I know many that follow college recruiting will remember Bowman. He was a bigtime recruit back a few years ago. he is now a junior who played two years at UNC.
