Current agenda:Hotel:Flamingo - ~70/ni = $140Shows:Mystere - ~110ea = $220 (seems like locals can get MUCH better deals. I will hit up the FBG contingent)Belagio Fountain - Free tourist thing. I will need further information on best time to attend, etc.Fremont Street Experience Downtown Las Vegas - Reading online, looking for additional 'Vegas' things to seeDining:Mesa Grill - ~$220 (no booze / ultra expensive). Wife has been dieing to go to one of his resturants. I considered lunch, but this will be the splurge.Ellis Island Casino & Brewery - Great rec's here. Price is right and has some gambling. Do they have craps?Oyster Bar at Pennazi - Reading online. FBG thoughts? Decent reviews, decent price.Gambling:Still undecided. Will depend on free time in between other experiences. Might be based on time before/after shows and dining. Im not too worried.Airport:Best to get to and fro from airport? Cab? Hotel shuttle? Car rental?
If you're in the area, we usually pop in to see the lions at MGM Grand. And for a free show and a little Vegas kitsch, check out Big Elvis at Bill's Gamblin' Hall & Saloon. Free show, cheap drinks. Monday through Friday at 3:00, 5:00 and 6:30PM.
I'd bag Flamingo and stay somewhere nice. Rates are cheap. Try Bellagio, Wynn, Mandalay to start.
where is the best place to find rates?

I agree with trying to go somewhere else besides Flamingo. When are you going?

I tried the $20 trick at the Imperial Palace two weekends ago - SHUT DOWN. I didn't get my $65 room upgraded even though there is no way that the hotel was booked full. :lmao:My wife got a good laugh out of it though. :whoosh:
I was at the IP from the 12 to the 16th... Didn't try the $20 trick there, as I didn't think the hotel would have many upgrades available. What did you think of the Dealtainers?
I gambled at Caesars Friday nite, and at the M Saturday nite, but ended up playing BJ late nite at the IP both nites. Dealertainers were fun, IMO. A little annoying in that they sometimes paused between hands to sing/dance along when I wanted them to just deal, but the atmosphere was definitely more live than at either Caesars or the M. People were BANGED UP and having a blast - overall I liked the dealertainers.
did caesars not have the #####cat doll bj table rolling...that was a blast....and i was just there over valentines day...
Those BJ tables have different rules than the rest of CP though.

I am not the best person to ask, but you might start with the hotels directly.I got a friend players rate at Encore this past weekend for $229--Wynn will be cheaper, and Bellagio and Mandalay will be cheaper still. Any of the 3 is a HUGE upgrade over Flamingo, and well worth it IMO.

I played there on Sat night, and they pay 6:5 on a BJ which many places do for singledeck. When you get as many BJs as me, 6:5 makes a BIG difference.

July 24-26 / 2 nights Fri/Sat

I am not the best person to ask, but you might start with the hotels directly.I got a friend players rate at Encore this past weekend for $229--Wynn will be cheaper, and Bellagio and Mandalay will be cheaper still. Any of the 3 is a HUGE upgrade over Flamingo, and well worth it IMO.
It looks like I can get Flamingo for ~70/ni and belagio is ~180/ni and mandalay ~220/ni. Am i missing something? Looking at their packages, its still not close. If my calculations are right, I can get there and stay at the flamingo for ~700. THeir packages which include flight and hotel start at 1.6k

I bet you can do better than that especially in July. Have a look through this thread--there might be some hotel rate tips.

also ... looks like my math is incorrect on the flights (of course) the 400 was per person and not total. Why do the airlines ask for passengers if they arent going to total in total passengers?!?!?!fml

Of all the Cirque du Soleil shows currently playing, which is a "must see". Need to get a show booked for Saturday night.
I'd rank the ones I've seen asMystere (fantastic show, worth every penny)"O" (good show, but not as much bang for the buck as Mystere)Love (this was probably my wife's favorite though...she's a Beatles fan)

I stayed at the Flamingo my last Vegas trip and thought it was alright. It has a really nice pool. If this is supposed to be an uber-romantic impress the SO vacation, then I'd skip it, but otherwise it's a solid choice for that price.

Wynn or Encore Wynn?
I just stayed at Encore over the weekend, and it's the high end version of Wynn. Smaller, and quieter than Wynn, I;d probably skip Encore for Wynn if given the choice. Going back and forth got old. THe rooms are very nice though.

The cirq show and Mesa Grill will be the SO's main draw. We hope to be in the hotel room for for like 28 minutes (7min * 4 ... if im lucky).

What should I consider a 'good deal' for flight and 2 nights? Im be coming out of Bos/Prov/Man ~6pm returning redeye Sun night

I'd say 400 per person if you are staying at a 4 star or better (i.e. Luxor, Flamingo, mandalay, new york new york, etc.)

Mandalay is way better than any of those other. I can't believe any of them qualify as 4-star hotels if rated by reputable agencies. Star inflation IMO.

Will be out there this weekend. Got a 3 night comp at Mirage, gonna see Zumanity on Saturday night. Looking for a nice place to eat Friday night.
Emerils Delmonico steakhouse at the Venetian
Have you eaten there or just heard it was good? I don't mean that bad, but would like a first hand review.(Although I guess you can pretty much trust an Emeril restaurant)

I agree with you and mandalay has also been my hotel of choice there for bang for buck. Love the restaurants, the space, the pool, etc. However, according to most online rating systems the ones I listed get 4 star ratings. I think their relative locations and good things inside have a lot to do with it. for example I'll happily stay at the Luxor or New York even though their rooms aren't nearly as nice because they are in a good location IMO and the hotels offer good stuff. Bear in mind obviously though my age and if I'm there i'm usually either there to play poker or meet some girl from back home or wherever so I'll forego spending cash on quality (plus something like the encore isn't expected) rooms to spend it out to eat, at a club, or on the tables. all of the ones I listed are nice enough IMO and worth it given it's on the strip. These places are no Palazzo, but they aren't exactly circus circus either.

For flight/hotel through orbitz, im looking:

$865 Flamingo

$1125 Bellagio

quite a difference ...

If you're really concerned about the cost, go during the week. You will find some much better deals.

Most times you can get a better deal by not going thru orbitz, expedia, etc and just book directly with the airline and hotel. Try these two sites for Hotel specials:www.travelzoo.comwww.earlyvegas.com

If you are ok with paying the price, SW at the Wynn was great all around. Service, scenery and food (steak, ect.). I went in November and was extremely pleased.Tau is another one I enjoyed. More on the "hip" side though. two completely different scenes.

I agree..but you're talking about triple A vs All Star quality here. Bellagio is the hot #### - extremely classy. If you are with the fellas or on a Vegas regular with the wife I'd say go Flamingo. If this is your first time or it's a rare event, spill the extra couple beans and go with the big time.

I've eaten there. Loved it - but I'm not a steak nerd, so others may have better advice.

I've got two tickets to Beatles Love for Friday, April 3rd @ 7 p.m. that I'm trying to get rid of. They cost me $137 a piece and would obviously let them go for cheaper.

Has anyone here seen both Mystere and Varekai? Are the similar?

Wife and I saw Varekai in Baltimore. Im leaning toward Mystere in Vegas, but by the sounds of it and trailers it looks close to Varekai.

That's the thing with Cirque shows, for me at least. We saw Mystere first and were blown away. O wasn't as good but I'm not sure if it was just because once you've seen one, you've seen them all. I had no intention of seeing another one but we decided last minute to see Love. It was good, like I said I'm no Beatles fan, but I was still glad when it was over.I don't imagine ever seeing another Cirque show.

If you are looking for a great restaurant, Bouchon at the Venetian is fabulous. It's one of Thomas Keller's restaurants. I had the most amazing scallops in that place. I highly recommend it. Also, the french place at the top of Paris is pretty awesome. Great views of the Bellagio fountains.

:goodposting: :goodposting: On my short "must do" list when I go, love the Bouchon French Toast

Very nice space with one whole wall of windows looking out onto garden / pool area.

Think there are tables out there too but hasn't been warm enough when I've been there.

Just got back, finished down $700, I've had much worse trips, so I'm happy about that.

Zumanity....eh, nothing special, wouldn't go again, the fishbowl scene was hot, but other than that it wasn't memorable.

Ate at Gallaghers in NY NY, it was ok. They had Root:1 cab which is the best bottle of cab you can get under $100, so that was good <_<

I'd like details on that too.. I booked Mandalay for April and got some deal with a Free round trip airfare but, there's stipulations and I'd much rather have casino chips.

i'm on their 'list' (as is pretty much anyone who ever stayed there). i get emails from them every month.

Just got back from a Thurs-Sunday trip.

Stayed at Mandalay Bay for free through connection.

Partied at Tryst on Thursday, TAO on Friday, and XS on Saturday night. All 3 clubs were great although I thought the music at XS was the worst of the 3. There are deals to be had if you talk to the cabbies and ask for club passes. They'll give em to you for free and you can save money for those clubs or even get in for free.

Went to iMagine off the strip and it was a nice casino. An upscale hotel with $5 black jack, craps, roulette as they just opened this month and ALL of their cocktail waitresses have GIGANTIC RACKS... like every single one of them and not "C" or "D" but watermelon jugs and are on display in very low cut tops. Again, they have to attract gamblers somehow as they are way off the strip so cheap tables and big boobs is the way to go. Only downside is they didn't have Blue Moon.

Lost $300 playing hold 'em after a club (not a good idea when you are drunk), but was able to win back my cash and than some over the weekend playing BJ, 3 card poker, and craps. Gotta love Vegas.

In our year out here so far, our two favorite restaurants that we've been to are:

1) Firefly - It's a tapas restaurant/bar just east of the Strip. The stuffed dates are to die for!

2) Lotus of Siam - Some people say this is the single best Thai restaurant in the USA. It's in a very seedy neighborhood/area, but the place is always packed and has killer food. Unless you like pain, don't order anything higher than a '7' on the 1-10 scale :lmao:

I cook most every night, so we don't go out to eat all that often, esp. to the 'balla' places, but of the ones we've been to, we still like the 2 above places the most.

Oh hell, I forgot Todd's Unique Dining. With Firefly, probably the best 'locals' secret places around. Todd's is down in Henderson though.

GF and I are going to Vegas for the first time soon. We are up for anything. Any absolutes? Also, what is your best method of finding a hotel room on the strip for as cheap as possible? Thx

thanks we will be staying at Stratosphere in about a month... I see the Lotus of Siam is close so I will make a trip there for sure. I keep hearing the Strat is a terrible dump. We are staying there because it is cheap and I just want a place to relax at the pool, gamble somewhat cheap if possible ($5), and have a decent room to sleep in. We have a rental car. Is this a mistake?

In our year out here so far, our two favorite restaurants that we've been to are:

1) Firefly - It's a tapas restaurant/bar just east of the Strip. The stuffed dates are to die for!

2) Lotus of Siam - Some people say this is the single best Thai restaurant in the USA. It's in a very seedy neighborhood/area, but the place is always packed and has killer food. Unless you like pain, don't order anything higher than a '7' on the 1-10 scale :lmao:

If you are planning on only checking out places on the strip, I think it might be a waste of money for you. However the Strat isn't very close to the rest of the hotels like Ceaser, Bellagio, MGM, NY NY (not even remotely close to those). So you might end up using it a bit more then somebody staying at a more central location. I would warn you that you won't make it anywhere quick will driving down the strip anytime after lunch until anytime after midnight. Bumper to Bumper traffic over the weekend.
