Vegas (2 Viewers)

Any suggestion for a decent golf course? Something decently close to the strip and probably under $100. I started looking around and was overwhelmed by options.
No love for golf?
Not in Vegas. You can golf anywhere. And especially not in the summer in Vegas.
Quality options near the strip are pretty pricey. Bali Hai is right by Manadlay and you can play twilight for around $100. Options are better if you go further out...Badlands, Pauite, Desert Pines, Rhodes Ranch are all decent and not too overpriced.

i go there every year just for the golf. Closest is Bali Hai, but its expensive. also close is probably Desert Pines. I liked Badlands personally, its about 20 mins from the strip, and was relatively cheap at $80. Royal Links is about $80 also, but the quality is hit and miss. I've played it about 6 times. Its a Walters Golf place and it is a bunch of English, Irish and Scottish replica holes, you get "the road hole" and the "postage stamp green" etc... Pretty fun course to play, but you really want to ask them upfront if they aerated or have other types of course construction going on. Desert Pines and Badlands are relatively short courses that play pretty easy with good watering, good greens.

Was in Vegas a little over a week ago and don't have time for a full review, but wanted to pass one thing along. Absinthe - at the Caesar's Palace Spiegelworld - is my new favorite show in Vegas. It's crude - I think I heard the F word 150 times in 90 minutes - but if off-color humor doesn't offend you, and you like Cirque style shows, you'll LOVE Absinthe.

The show was hilarious, the acts were uber-entertaining and I got $20 offer per ticket here - $20 Off Absinthe. 5-Stars - I HIGHLY recommend.

Oh, and you can play shuffleboard, cornhole and champagne-pong in the courtyard. We hung out there after the show and had a great time. I've heard there is a "secret" bar area if you go through the red phone booth but I cannot verify...

thanks for the headsup.Going back in August for a long weekend with 3 friends from college. I've been put in charge of procuring rooms and scouring for entertainment.....pretty sure I'll recommend this to the group.

Appreciate the review....we were already leaning towards this show in October as we've seen most of the other highly rated ones.

Haven't been to Vegas in almost 5 years, before that it was an every other year type of vacation. This time I'm taking my dad for a few days later in August. Taking my dad who is a little older (70+) for a 3 day type of thing, flying out here Monday morning, getting to Vegas around Noon, leaving Thursday lunchtime. He wanted to stay in the middle of the strip, so got air (nonstop)/hotel (T.I.) for $360/person. He doesn't drink or really go to the pool/clubs so what would anyone suggest for a Mon-Wed? I've checked out websites for the best NL Hold'm tournaments for Mon-Wed and have a short list of possibilities. I've seen quite a few of the shows out there, he likes comedians. I'll check into this Absinthe - at the Caesar's Palace Spiegelworld right away.

Also, does anyone know of a close grocery store to load up on snacks/soda/water/booze to the strip?

If your Father is over 70, and you are considering Absinthe, I strongly suggest you make sure he's comfortable with very raunchy humor of a sexual-nature. It isn't for the faint of heart. There is a very good magician/comedian at Harrah's - Mac King - who does an afternoon show. You can usually find discount tickets - I've always heard very good things about his show. There is an old car museum at Imperial Palace (if either of you are into old cars). I happen to think Madame Tussaud's is a fun way to spend a couple of hours.

Quick review of my trip from June 16th-June 20th:

Age: 26, group of 9 - 20 somethings mixed dudes and girls.

Hotel

PH Towers Westgate - Got this place with a $70 winning bid on priceline for 2 rooms ($645 after tax and fees for 4 nights). Got upgraded to a suite with the girls talking to the desk and $20 tip. PH Towers is a timeshare so ALL ROOMS have a kitchenette, the 2 bedroom "suite upgrade" was nice just to have everyone in the same room. The 20 foot projector was cool, but even more awesome was having a fridge w/ water and ice dispenser to stay well hydrated after all the drinking. Also, all the other conveniences of having a kitchenette was great to have. Downside was walking to the mall to get to Planet Hollywood casino (about 10 minutes). Still would recommend this place as far as location on the strip and room/value. Also, awesome having Earl of Sandwiches close by.

Restaurants

Hash House A Go Go - Imperial Palace - Only note worthy place we went to eat. HUGE portions, great food. Recommend for breakfast.

Shows

LOVE - Got hooked up by Patty. She is legit. Great seats. As for the show it was "eh." I didn't feel ripped off, but it's not something I would highly recommend. I enjoyed Mystere more (only other Cirque show I have seen). Not much "circus acts." It is mostly a visual experience... like watching a living painting set to Beatles music. Most of the "acts" were centered around contemporary dancing and aside from one dude (topless white dude performing a solo to "I Want to Hold Your Hand") the rest really sucked.

Pool Parties

Wet Republic - Went there Friday. Had a blast. The girls were able to deal with the promoter once we were inside and got $500 off a table. We had a choice between one by the bar for $500 or poolside ones for $1000. Chose the one by the bar and with the $500 + $25 out of pocket were able to get 6 margarita pitchers which put everyone at a good level since we had taken shots before we hit the pool. We could have gotten food, but we were all on a liquid diet. Saw Mayhem Miller and Jake Engellberger at the pool. It was funny because no one paid any attention to them, until we told the girls in our group they were UFC fighters. They made their way over flirted, took pictures, got shots, and what not and after our girls left the gold diggers came out in full force. Also our hostess was the hottest girl there. Her name was Jen - think of a 6 foot tall Jessica Biel with a less manish face, D cups, and a booty that Ice T would approve of on a nice athletic frame.

Pools- non pool party

Cosmo pool - It is an awesome place to kill time. We went on Thursday so not sure if weekends are as relaxed. We are not hotel guests but you can go to the pool if you just sign in. At the pool there are pool tables, ping pong, and table top curling, beer pong to kill time. Talent was ok, I'm sure weekends are better. Good place to hang out because the table games add variety other than swimming and drinking. Backyard pool party vibe.

PH Towers Pool - it is what it is. Nothing special but there was a decent amount of eye candy. Wouldn't go out of my way to check it out.

Clubs

Thursday Night - went to the Palms since our friend got us in for free. Terrible. I'd only recommend this place if you were older than 30. Still got drunk so it didn't matter much, but avoid this place. Left for Tryst it still had a long line around midnight so we just hit the tables and got drunk.

Friday Night - Marquee. Place is nuts. Strict with the ratio. You have to have 1:1 or near 1:1 just to GET IN LINE! Not sure if all dude groups could even get in with bottle service since this place was packed. Once inside nice selection of talent, 3 levels and a huge outdoor spot. Love the individual restrooms. It's THE spot in Vegas right now so it's a good party.

Saturday Night - XS. Even after Marquee still my favorite club in Vegas. I love how it's one level and has a huge outdoor area where people party. I don't like how Marquee splits people up. Always good talent available.

Sunday Night - XS. We were planning to check out Chateau at Paris, but a friend with her Bachelorette Party invited us to go with them and we couldn't turn down that offer. Sunday Nights they close off the inside and allow people to swim in the pool. So dress code is fairly relaxed. Again love the vibe at XS and having everyone partying outside.

All in all had a great trip. Only downside was I lost money at the craps table and only winning at 3 card poker and that "Spin the Wheel Game." Can't wait to go back again.

Ended up at Las Vegas National Golf Club. Only about 10 minutes from the strip and 80$. Was definitely old, but it was in good shape, and a fair course. Pace of play was good too.

Alrighty Vegas-wizards... I need some help please.

I've got a buddy taking his new chick out to Vegas on August 12-14th.

Young Couple (late 20's) looking to party. A nice pool is a pretty good priority (but not a MUST have).

Budget is 200 max per night but they'd really like to come in under that.

Gambling will be somewhat limited to low limits for an hour or two a night. Not a priority.

He's trying to wow her a bit so slipping him into the IP isn't probably going to fly.

And to help motivate:PIC OF CHICK - 5'10" Surfer Chick

Bikini pics forthcoming once we nail this down. Tia

ETA: Looks like he can land Vdara for $130/night on Hotwire right now. That seems to be a pretty solid deal, no?

Trump is coming back at $118 but I'm not a fan of the off-strip location and lack of a casino. Aria/Vdara seem to be a better spot.

Thoughts?

Don't do trump...bad locale. Vdara good, Cosmo better. Take her to see the show "O" at the Bellagio.

Is it still better to book airfare on your own and look for best deals on hotels up until your stay? Or are there any websites / travel agencies that actually offer a flight / room package for less than what you can find seperately on your own? TIA

(Booking for early December from Philly/Allentown)

Try the big sites first like Expedia, Kayak, etc. Then give Costcotravel a shot and since you're in Philly, USAirwaysvacations.com.

Flamingo is $112/night for a regular delux room or $128/night for a GO room on those dates. Pool is nice and large, O'sheas has cheap tables next door, center of the strip...

200 max for what? Food, booze, room?If it's for the room, call the hotel direct.

are you rated anywhere? When I go to vegas I always book my own flights and hotels. CHECK AIRFARES REGULARLY. I just booked a trip for late august, and airfares were routinely $400-$500 for the weekend I wanted to go. I checked every day and was able to get it for $330 including all taxes and fees.As far as hotel, call them if you are rated. Call them even if you aren't rated.

Thanks, yeah avoiding Trump. Cosmo looking WAY out of his pricerange at $350/night unless there are some other deals to be had? Leaning toward Vdara at 130 right now... WATSON,Thanks, but the flaming Go rooms at 120 (and hotel itself) seem to pale a bit in comparison to the Vdara at 130. Am I wrong in this? Just going off photos/videos I'm seeing. Hoping he can work the 20 dollar "trick" to bump up from a base level Vdara suite into something a little more solid by playing the "It's our first time in vegas" card with the front desk. We'll see.

Going next week. Mandalay Bay had spa suite rooms for $99/night, can't go wrong there.

Anybody know of a decent sushi place not too far from Mandalay Bay? Can also be off the strip since we'll have a car. Don't really like the sushi place in the middle of Mandalay Bay casino (Sushi-Pop or something, I think the name changed) - it's very expensive and very average.

Taht's for room. Ideally he'd like to stay down in the 120-130 range to free up some cash for drinking/partying. Vdara direct is $360 for 2 nights including feesVdara through hotwire is 305 for 2 nights including fees. I presume the 22 dollar resort fee will be tacked on either reservation on check in. Is there any compelling reason (aside from ability to cancel) to book through Vdara for $55 more? Curious if there's something I'm not considering.

Flamingo sucks compared to Vdara. Vdara isn't badly located either.

These? If you can't get Julie Young or Claire Hanna, I'd start looking for other chicks.

Only been there 4 times and that's the only place I've ever stayed (mostly because I've never had to pay and I'm an old, married #### just looking for some cheap, relaxing gambling), so I guess I really wouldn't know. Just saw the rates and thought I'd toss it out there.

 I do appreciate you shooting the rates over. I've actually always wondered about the Go rooms as they come very well regarded and seem like great value...ESP when you factor in the very nice pool. Honestly I'm considering advising it just because the pool is so much better than Vdara's (which looks stuffy and small in comparison). Thanks for the suggestion

They (everyone) usually bump rates on Saturdays, but if you can get MB for $99 or close to it for a weekend I would go for that - wave pool is fun, otherwise Vdara should be fine. I hear the GO rooms are getting a little worn these days.

Just remember, Vdara doesn't have a casino attached. You have to walk to Aria or Cosmo. Aria being closer.

So I'm back from my trip and had another great time.... Good God I love that city.

Patty = $$ when it comes to show tickets. Third row center for the Lion King (Fantastic) and David Coperfield (meh).

The Bellagio is operating off it's reputation now - I wouldn't stay there again. I gave the girl at the front desk a $50 and asked for whatever she could do for me (Had a lake view). She put me in a "Jr suite". Well a Jr Suite is no bigger then the room I had already, it was a football field away from the elevator, the room was old and stale, it had an old box TV and not a flat panel, and the toilet seat was so worn it was missing paint...... Combine that with the fact you could not get a table for less then $25 ever and drinks by the pool were $17 and it just wasn't that good a time for me.

Got to hand it to my wife, the Paris is great. We gave a $50 to the girl at the front desk and we ended up on the 25th floor in a brand new room overlooking the pool and the Bellagio fountains.

Mon Ami Gabi is still my favorite resuraunt in Vegas.

Walked though PH - The vibe in that casino is awsome. I would stay at PH no problem. The Cosmo was a little cheesy for my taste, but it was nice. Aria was very nice as well.

This might be too late, but what kind of sushi joint you looking for and how much do you want to spend? Are you looking for casino based only or all you can eat type of places or ala carte places?

Combine that with the fact you could not get a table for less then $25 ever and drinks by the pool were $17 and it just wasn't that good a time for me.
That sounds brutal all around
I have to tell you, I drunk the kool-aid big time based on reputation and I walked away disapointed. If my wife didnt have a most excellent time at the pool it would have been a washout. Right hand to God I would have rather have spent all 4 nights at the Paris.

The Bellagio is operating off it's reputation now - I wouldn't stay there again. I gave the girl at the front desk a $50 and asked for whatever she could do for me (Had a lake view). I like Paris, have my new favorite awful game, Mississippi Stud... really enjoy the casino

I found plenty of low limit tables at Bellagio on a Friday night

Drinks were pricey at the bar though, a red bull and vodka and a cranberry/vodka ran me 28 bucks :hot:

Going back out to Vegas next month. Called Harrahs to see what they could do, I need 2 rooms for three nights. Thought for sure I'd get stuck in Bally's, but best deal actually worked out to be Paris

Had such a blast in Vegas:

Friday

Arrived around 11:00 pm local time to MGM walked the strip to Cosmo (ordering cheap beers along the way)and got warmed up at the Chandlier bar. So much talent in the Cosmo its ridiculous. One of the friends I was with had a chief who is a local and he met us and took us to old downtown for First Friday. Looked straight outta of a bacardi commercial we walked in this dark club (think swingers) and in the back was this huge courtyard with canned beer and hard liquor. Ordered 4 heinekens and 1 bud light (not me) and it was only $19. Club hopped a bit in this old downtown and ended up at this arcade club where they have video game stations set up (Black Ops, Mortal Kombat, Mario Kart, etc.) each with an individual screen along with tons of old school arcade machines and a full dance floor. The local chief got us set up with 5 buckets of beer and Grey Goose. We ended up at Dennys but the smell of food made me sick and I had a good buzz so I told them I was rolling to the casino, on my way there tripped on a curb and bit it hard. Seven people across the street saw me fall but I was more worried about getting arrested for public intoxication it was nice because we passed on the street they didnt laugh. Anyhow made it to I think the Aria and hung out at the lounge talked it up with some ladies for a couple of hours and then took a taxi back to MGM. On my way to the room stopped by the MGM lounge and staggered to the room around 11:00 am. Friends were passed out and I fell asleep only to be waken up around 5:00 p.m.

Saturday

My head was absolutely pounding and I made my way to the shower. They had been partying at the pool since around 5. For whatever reason I forgot to lock the bathroom door the hot shower felt so good and then all of a sudden a huge cold rushed over me my two friends poured two huge party buckets of ice and water on me and I yelled out and they got it all on camera. After that we played poker at the MGM and my friends were headed to the Moon at the Palms, I was supposed to meet them with my good buddy back from high school (hadnt seen in 10 years) but my HS buddy got delayed and didnt roll with any dress clothes so we ended up back downtown since thier clubs had no dress code. Definetly not as tight as the first night but we pulled some local talent and it was a great time. Buddy called it a night around 5 but I decided that I needed to see a Las Vegas strip club so I took a taxi to Spearmint Rhino and it was packed at 10:00 am on a Sunday. Hung out here for a while and took a taxi to In & Out Burger then MGM

Sunday

Woke up my buddies around 12:00 and we headed to Hoffbrauheiser. We all got shots and spankings and somehow got talked into doing chugging contest. Somehow I didnt puke after finishing my glass, took second place. After the contest our food arrived and I had a bacon cheeseburger. Only at the bacon and then decided it was time to head out from lack of sleep. On my way out both my buddies each brought in a liter of water and the waitress offered to place it in their fridge for them so it would be cold when they left. On my way out I talked the waitress into letting me take their bottles and I put them in the sun so they would be nice and hot when they finally left. On my way to find a taxi a group of people from Hoffbrauheiser invited me to party with them and they were cool so I chilled for an hour 4 girls 2 guys. Headed back to the MGM and passed the hell out. My buddies started doing WWF slams from off the bed to wake me up around 9:00 p.m. I was so disorientated and couldnt figure out what the hell was happening. After getting my bearings took a shower and got dressed and we headed to a pub crawl sponsored by Expedia. We arrived late (supposed to check in at 930 pm at MGM lounge). For whatever reason the location was changed and we struggled to find out where. We finally figured out we were supposed to meet at the Bellagio at Carmels. We took a taxi (traffic was insane) and we arrived they had already went to the next location luckily the security guard knew where and texted the host for us. We walked to the Aria and met up with the party at Haze. Absoluetly insane place so much energy and hot girls beers only $10. After an hour we left to go to Studio 54 via a party bus. Free beer and champagne on bus and it was the same crowd at each location so you were forced to party with strangers in between locations which meant that everyone was getting to know each other. Studio 54 was alright but didnt particularly care for the music. Next and final stop was at a place that slips my mind cant even remember what casino we were at. Anyhow in the final club it was absolutely huge the only issue was that I couldnt find the bathroom I walked to one end and was instructed to head over to other side and when I did I was told to go the other side. I gave up and was drunk as hell at only 3:30 am. Went out and sat in sports bar area and saw host and a chick I was talking up earlier. The host got up and I made my way over to her I slurred her name and she was nice and said whats up and then right as I sat down this other guy sat down and asked her if she wanted shots she said yes and walked away and the dudes friends waved bye to me in a douchy way. At this point I figured I was beaten and headed for a taxi. On my way got approached by a prostitute about a 6 on Offdee scale, she asked if I wanted company and curiously asked how much. She said $500, I balked and then she said $300 I balked again and she said what can you pay? I walked away alone to my taxi and passed out in my hotel

Monday

Got a call on my phone saying airplane ticket had been cancelled. So we had to scramble our stuff and get toward airport one buddy didnt arrive until 30 minutes before and he was hurting bad. We rounded up all our stuff and headed to the airport. We got the airport situation figured out and were able to get to ABQ airport only 90 minutes later than original departure (7:00 pm) but we had to fly to Dallas then ABQ. The worst part was that we saved a $100 person driving 200 miles to ABQ airport instead of Lubbock. It was the absolute worst 200 miles I have ever experienced. DIdnt want to leave my buddy hanging by sleeping so I stayed awake the whole way. We got home at 11 pm and all of us had to work by 7 am needless to say that was the absolute worst work day in recent experience. Finally felt right on Wednesday. What a trip so many memories.

BTW, odd request for help on getting rooms this weekend. It's 2 of my co-workers last weekend here so six of us nerds are headed up to the Hard Rock for a Meatloaf concert (I'll be playing poker during the concert). I'm trying to book rooms, and travelaxe is just crushing me. Figure I may call a couple places tomorrow and try to get a suite, but otherwise looking at two rooms in a hotel near the Hard Rock. Anyone ever stay at the bluegreen 36 club/resort on Tropicana? They are close to the Hard Rock and priced pretty well on travelaxe. I have players cards all over, but don't accrue much in terms of points because I only ever play poker.
I stayed at Bluegreen in a 2bdrm unit a few weeks ago. The units were very nice with a full kitchen, pots, dishes, etc. In unit washer and dryer and just generally a very well maintained property.

Any suggestions for a steakhouse with a unique atmosphere? We've tried and liked SW, Delmonicos and Kokomos. We're thinking maybe Switch or CUT this time around....

$218 round trip tickets on Continental and a free hotel room offer were calling my name so I will be going Sun, July 24th - Fri 29th. They are giving away rooms, even at the nicer places if that's what you prefer. I chose Bally's because I'm cheap (have a Rewards card and had an offer for $0 for the entire 5 weekdays) and don't mind something a little dumpy compared to the nicer places, but I could have stayed at Planet Hollywood or Paris for pretty cheap. Last time I was in Bally's I was upgraded for free to a pretty nice North Tower room, but I remember the South tower rooms being pretty run down a few years ago.

May have to use the Patty connection in this thread for seats, my friends and I are trying to figure out what show we want to do.

Anyone recommend any particular pool cabana's worth the value in the area (Paris/PH/Bally's/Bellagio/Caesar's)? Didn't like the cabana's at Flamingo and the one I did at the Venetian last year was really nice but not that close to the water or the eye candy. Since I'll be there on weekdays, I'm expecting it to not be too outrageous price-wise.

I did Voodoo Lounge last time I was there. Great views from the top of the Rio and includes free entry into the club on the roof. Food was good too.
