Good deal, thanks N16. Thing is we skew older (early/mid 30s guys in our group) so we're less inclined to be the "old guys" at a place completely populated by kids in their early 20s :lmao:

Got in touch with a VIP host at Palms through JackColton.com forums (very good resource btw) and I'm loosely chatting him up.

Looks like we're tentatively looking at:

• Prix Fixe Dinner at N9NE : w/ bottomless wine pairings and SeaBass/Ribeye combo it seems like solid value for a "get settled" dinner.

• Couple bottles at GhostBar (possibly) to start off the trip/evening (great view for vegas n00bs in the group) then possibly head out elsewhere.... will see on this.

• Ditch Friday : Getting a cabana. Looks like we can get something solid for $2-2.5k F&B Minimum. With 8 guys that's not hard (start with 4 bottles).

Talking to Spearmint Rhino on a limo/3 bottle/private section setup for one of the nights (fri?)

Saturday we might hit another pool party if things go well at Ditch... Wet is on the short list for Saturday. We'll see. Sat night we'll likely bar/lounge crawl on the strip.

All very tentative obviously since we're half a year out...

Feel bad sneaking into the middle of bachelor party research, but have any of you gone to Vegas alone. My GF and I have different days off, and a little get away seems like a good idea. Won't be taking a big stash, so running out of money and getting bored is the biggest concern. However, I can go for dirt cheap with a free room and some free play and F/B money. Kind of want to try the solo trip once. :bag:

March Madness 2011 I was supposed to go with 2 guys from work. One had to bail for work trip, one got deathly ill the night before. I said #### it and rolled on solo. Vegas is one of those places you just happen to run into people you know... and even if you don't, it's still fun as hell. I had worked a deal with a guy from 2+2 to swap some product from my employer in exchange for 2 nights of a 750GR suite at Mandalay Bay. Worked out nicely. Got the suite. Ran into Chet one night at a bachelor party at Blush in Wynn. Sat with Assani and played some wasted 1/3NL at Wynn later that night and blew off over a grand. :lmao: Ran up to Flamingo (I think?) to meet up with Woz and donk off some cash at the poker game there. The night before randomly ran into a chick I knew (one of my GF's best friends) who happened to be taking this 21yo kid out for his birthday. I took them to OSheas where we proceeded to destroy this poor kid with drinks. He was couch ridden the rest of the trip. Other than that I shot dice, drank beers, and just mixed and mingled. It's a VERY "Solo-friendly" type of place. Solo is actually a totally different kinda fun... it really amplifies the "do whatever the hell you want whenever you want" factor of Vegas. If you're the type of guy whos comfortable going to a bar or dinner on your own (I am) then I highly recommend it. :thumbup:
 
Okay I'm torn on hotels.... 8 guys. Looking at 2 two-bedroom suites at either Palms ($1400+tax) or Elara ($1200 incl tax) for thur/fri/sat nights. Given we are leaning toward Ditch Friday and Thursday Dinner at N9NE (and hitting ghost bar) I'm leaning palms... but I've never stayed at either place so I wanted to get everyone's thoughts. Elara looks a little more spacious and is closer to the strip (though still have to walk through that mall to PH). Unfortunately it has a worse pool scene (is this correct?), and there's not much at the actual Elara building... you gotta hike to drink/eat/gamble. The price difference is there but negligible. Palms is in a bit of decline (shuttered Rain and Playboy) but we're looking at a few things there (above). Plus, the pool scene is likely better on friday (for sure) and saturday... and we'll definitely be doing the pool thing during the day. Thoughts on these two options? Any other suggestions I might have missed.

Not sure if they have access to it still. Before, when Elara was PH Towers we were able to, but since they changed hands to Hilton, I have no idea. The pool scene at PH is pretty dead the last time I went, though it was a Sunday.
 
Those of you who were fans of O'Sheas may also be saddened to know that Bill's (fka Barbary Coast) closed on Monday.

Bill's Gamblin' Hall & Saloon closed its doors on the Las Vegas Strip Monday.

Drai's After Hours, a nightclub inside the Old West-themed casino, held a final bash Sunday night.

The casino is expected to reopen in 2014 as a boutique hotel with a new name. The nightclub is expected to re-open as well.

Caesars Entertainment Corp. announced last fall that it had secured $185 million to gut Bill's Gamblin' Hall and convert it into an upscale hotel and club.

The casino kitty-corner to the Bellagio was known as the Barbary Coast until 2007.

There is no pool scene there. Planet Hollywood is on the Luxor path to white trash oblivion. Although black and Latina trash seem comfortable there as well. I think you guys will actually like the pool scene at the Palms. It's an 'older' scene only in the sense that it doesn't max out at 28 years old. More than enough talent there on Fridays, and a lot of the same, "I want a scene, but I don't need to be at THE scene" vibe, which is cool. Definitely worth checking out Marquee's pool at least once. It's insane. As for bars worth hitting that are not clubs, Chandelier bar at Cosmo is a great spot, as is the cocktail bar right off the lobby. Lavo and Tao both have great bars. I really like downtown. No idea if your crew is that adventurous, but the Griffin, Beauty Bar, and Insert Coin are all cool spots.
 
Any cool bars/clubs where you don't have to get all dressed up to go to? I'm going the end of March and I want to hit a bar or two but I prefer to dress in jeans and a t-shirt instead of a button up shirt and slacks.Also, staying at the Elara and will post my thoughts. I'm a Hilton Grand Vacations owner and I usually stay at the Flamingo, but I wanted to check out the Elara one time.

Just got back from Vegas week. Stayed at the Cosmo. What a great effing place! Hard to get a better view than the East Tower 28-35th floor overlooking the fountains of Bellagio. The bars and casino were young and hip. The hotel room was amazing, complete with a Kama sutra book and screw kit. Ha!Highly recommend!!!

You can get into most clubs with a button up shirt and jeans.

Great info... thanks. The complete lack of a pool scene is enough to prettty much lock us into Palms. It's not like we'll be shuttling back and forth to the strip all weekend (we may not even hit the strip till Saturday) so the cab factor isn't a huge issue. I appreciate it.

Wanted to give this post some love. I got back earlier in the week and we checked this out. We actually didn't need to buy the tickets online, just walk past the box office in front of Ceaser's and they gave us 4-$20 off tickets, so final tally was like $55/each. Show was hilarious, I would highly recommend it. There's some cool stuff that they do too, the roller skating/spinning couple are sick....and everything except for the finale where they finish with a pretty lame "high wire" act was cool. The MC guy and his gal side kick though cracked me the eff up the whole show. :thumbup:

Another bump for Absinthe. I've seen it again since I posted the above and loved it just as much the second time around. My wife has actually seen it a 3rd time and says she'd still see it again. IMO it's the best show in Vegas as long as you aren't a prude.

Solo days in Vegas aren't bad at all. I'm usually with a group, but if I can get out a day or 2 early I will and just do my own thing.You honestly don't even need a room some nights if you're really cheap. Roaming 24 hrs is perfectly acceptable. Spending a lot of time in a hotel room by myself never appealed to me.

You're going to be fine at any of the lower brow properties bars. Hell... most bars in general don't have serious dress codes from what I've seen. Clubs almost all do. If you want to hit the nicer properties then be a grown up and quit dressing like a slob for a night. :lmao:

What do you wear out to a nice steakhouse? Again, there are tons of bars... you'll likely want to stick to them. Most will be fine with jeans and a T shirt unless they're ####-stained acid wash wranglers and your Tshirt isn't a Eagles 2008 Conference Champions shirt. Again... it's vegas. I'm hoping you at least mean a nice pair of somewhat stylish jeans, nice shoes (ie not sneakers), and a nice stylish T shirt?ACCEPTABLESTAY HOME

To a nice steakhouse, something business casual. But I find that to be extremely uncomfortable. So I rarely eat at a place like that. Also, what would be unstylish jeans? I mean, I don't wear jeans with holes in them. But I'm not spending $100 on a pair of jeans. And no I'm not wearing nice shoes. Why would I wear nice shoes to a bar/club? I want to wear something that I don't mind if they get ruined by alcohol stains.

Stuff like Carnival court at harrahs is probably along the lines of what you're looking for.... or any of the casino bars on the floor of most middle/lower tier properties. Places like Ballys, Flamingo, Luxor, etc will likely welcome you to any of their bars as long as you're not wearing flip flops and cargo shorts. Nicer in-casino bars (wynn/venetian/cosmo/bellagio) probably are going to require you to dress up a little outside your comfort zone but you will have to check. I've always just dressed up so as to not worry about it so I'm not sure where the line is. Their tolerance is likely a lot higher on Wednesday afternoon than it is on saturday night. There are tons of bars in shopping plazas / malls between/around the casinos as well. Many of those are much more liberal with the dress codes. Candidly most of the time I've spend hopping around those I've been following people and drunk so I couldn't speak to which are worth going to.A lot of casinos have lists like this (Treasure Island) that detail nightlife options and dress code. I will say even on the casino floor at night folks dress up a little. I wouldn't wear sandals or flip flops outside of the pool areas at all in vegas personally, but some middle-america types do it while walking around the strip during the day. At night no man should be caught dead in open toed shoes of any type anywhere.

What do you wear out to a nice steakhouse? Again, there are tons of bars... you'll likely want to stick to them. Most will be fine with jeans and a T shirt unless they're ####-stained acid wash wranglers and your Tshirt isn't a Eagles 2008 Conference Champions shirt. Again... it's vegas. To a nice steakhouse, something business casual. But I find that to be extremely uncomfortable. So I rarely eat at a place like that. Also, what would be unstylish jeans? I mean, I don't wear jeans with holes in them. But I'm not spending $100 on a pair of jeans. And no I'm not wearing nice shoes. Why would I wear nice shoes to a bar/club? I want to wear something that I don't mind if they get ruined by alcohol stains.

Stylish jeans = darker wash... good fitting for your build. Baggy Jeans / Carpenter Jeans / etc are a non starter. Ain't happening. You're not getting into any club worth going to without nice shoes. Any sneakers or such and you're getting shot down... ESPECIALLY if you're wearing jeans and a T shirt. Any nicer bars will likely also frown on crappy footwear. I have to disagree, Reno is a great seedy little town. Now, if you head there with Vegas in mind you will be disappointed but I've always preferred it to Tahoe. The Peppermill is a great spot. It all depends on personal taste but personally I like some of the down and out qualities of the city.

I didn't get to Peppermill. Actually, didn't get anywhere besides the Silver Legacy. Very content doing my work during the day, coming back and getting a good meal at one of the casino restaurants, then gambling til one of a few things happened. I definitely didn't have high hopes for Reno so I disappointed. It's rundown just like I was told, but the casino was actually pretty nice (better than anything I've seen locally in Erie or Seneca Allegheny).I will say, it's good to see low limit table games. $5 craps is ####### great (I'm sure it helped that I won back all my blackjack losses and then some). That's not easy to find in Vegas these days and I've never seen a blackjack or craps table under $15 at our new casino in Cleveland. I can't play craps the way I want to play craps on a $15 table, it sucks.

Taking max odds when the limits are high is rough. One really bad stretch and you can go t!ts-up in a hurry.

Part of Vegas is the dressing stylishly/nicely, but if you want to look like a slob no worries there as in most bars, casino floors, and restaurants you'll be fine.Frankly, you seem like the type of guy who may enjoy downtown Vegas more.

I'm seriously considering staying downtown next trip.I like the direction they're heading in better than the one the strip is.
 
Update (I know you guys are dying to know): • Group has grown to 12 guys now... I told him we have to cap it there. Too damn big is no fun. 12 is already pushing it. • Definitely staying at Palms... two 2BR Suites in Palms Place then maybe a studio suite or two if needed. • Ditch Friday : Using Hotel keys to get in early and will just grab some chairs and take over a corner of the pool for a "base". "Cheap"/Easy way to take in Ditch. • WET Republic Saturday: Getting Deluxe Cabana I Think. Word is Wet on Saturday is solid.As always love feedback.

sadly I've never been downtown. Hear it's a good time though. I just envision it as dirty and run down with hillbillies from Kansas and homeless people and #### like that. Cousin Eddie types all over the place. Im guessing that's NOT the case. :unsure:
 
That's not the case. You will find more cousins than on the strip for sure though. Actually, I prefer a night or two on the strip and the rest downtown.

Using the code the rate for a 1BR suite and studio suite together (aka a 2BR suite) goes from $1660 to $1080 out the door for thur/fri/sat nights (other factors in play to reduce the price too). Suddenly these rooms just became a much better value. Wonder what the odds are of a 100 tip at checkin (plus a "bachelors first time in vegas story) getting is bumped to a penthouse in palms place for at least Thursday night if not the whole trip. :unsure:

I'll be heading to Vegas for March Madness - March 21st - 24th with a few GB's. One guy got us a crazy deal - three nights free at the Rio, plus entrance into some viewing party at the Hard Rock for 2 for all three days - usually it's about $100 bucks a person per day. Supposedly they have all the games, free booze, and free food. Sounds like my kind of deal.

Headed there same dates - ended up booking a similar viewing party at Harrah's after being shut out of C Palace. Cost was about $100...Planet Hollywood party was $130. All you can drink draft beer and a pretty crummy buffet - but it's worth it to me to know I have a good seat instead of fighting crowds or holding a spot overnight.
 
For those of you going for March Madness, I'd bet that most of the off-strip casinos are doing the convention rooms for the games. These are free for the Super Bowl and they serve stadium food and cash bar which is reasonable. We have done the Orleans and South Point before. Just a thought.
