I don't want my daughter thinking it is ok to take her clothes off for men for money. Would she do this for no money? Why or why not? What is it about the infusion of money that makes this ok?

There are lots of women who do just that without ever appearing in adult films, magazines, or clubs.
I think you just made my point.

If she is 18, she is free to make her own decisions, and I would not hold it against her.

So are you saying that if you disagree with someone's decision you are holding it against them?

Playboy = approve

Penthouse/Hustler/pron = disapprove

I don't see in good conscience how I can say it is ok for me to pose in Playgirl for 1mil, but not for my kid

As a father, I am disappointed in the number of people voting they'd be OK with their daughters doing Playboy.

As a chronic masturbator, I pleasantly surprised.

I'm hoping that the people voting Approve don't actually have daughters.

I'm curious if the people who consider posing in Playboy degrading think that posing in Maxim is degrading???

Maxim is worse, in almost every way, than Playboy.
What do you mean by this?

I do. It's not quite as bad as Playboy, but it's in the same category.
Why do you find it degrading? Please be specific.
Being photographed in suggestive outfits and poses is degrading. How much more specific do you need me to be?

It would be her decision. Id fully support her no matter what she wanted to do. (outside of porn or stripping).

Why draw the line at porn or stripping?
You seriously dont see the difference?
I see a difference. I'm just wondering why you choose to draw the line at posing for Playboy.

#1 - Playboy is porn.

#2 - I don't want my daughter doing porn.

If you don't mind the idea of every freak and degenerate guy in the world being able to pleasure themselves to your daughter, I guess that's you're perrogative. Just don't act like anyone who doesn't like that idea and would act accordingly is stupid or close minded.

Porn is a dirty business and I wouldn't want my daughter stripping for anyone other than her husband no matter how much money is involved.

Sure there are different levels to porn just like there are different levels of murder, but at the end of the day someone is still dead.

It would take too long to explain. Maybe when I get home tonight I'll put my thoughts together. In short, one gets the impression reading a Maxim magazine that it is written by and for idiots.edit. "Idiot" is the wrong term. It's views on culture, commercialism, and the the way it objectifies women are not views I share.I guess the easiest way to say it is that Maxim's core audience appears to be . . . Woz. I feel dirty reading it.

In a related subject, I hear the chick who got thrown off the Southwest Airplane for inappropriate dress is posing in Playboy.

ETA: By thrown off the airplane, I meant figuratively...

It's degrading because it sends the message that she only has value if she is physically attractive and willing to expose herself to strangers for money. Are bikinis degrading? I think a lot of them are, and I wouldn't want my daughter to be seen in them.

I wonder how many answers would change to disapprove if it was 1mil + she had to stay in the mansion for 1 month.

i would prefer playboy to so many other things...such as the girls gone wild or porno. As long as my daughter is happy...then I am happy. My love/respect is not conditional.

So a parent disapproving of his daughter's destructive behavoir means he doesn't love her? ;)
Yes...the fact that you would even call it destructive behavior shows your own ignorance.
That may be, but equating a father fighting tooth-and-nail for his daughter to have a little dignity and not whore herself out for money with not loving her any more shows YOUR ignorance.
Posing for Playboy= whoring yourself out? Now THAT'S ignorance.

Take those three women on the Heff show, The Girls Next door. Do you consider them having "whored themselves out"?

Sounds like the father never got a chance to get to know his own daughter. Sounds like he just wants to butt in when he doesnt approve....the same father would probably disapprove of her dating a black man....does it mean he doesnt love her....maybe not...sounds like he definately doesnt respect her...which is why I put that in their.
 It's like you're actively TRYING to make the most outrageous argument possible just to :pokey: at anyone that would have the gall to disagree with you. I mean seriously, you're now saying that a parent that would disapprove of his daughter posing for Playboy is also probably racist? :loco:
Blacks look at Playboy at a higher rate than whites. Statistically, they masterbate more. So all he's doing is extrapobating the facts to fit the overlying demographic probability. It's more intuitive than extuative, actually. But on a fundamentalist basis, it sounds about right.
This should be in last weeks thread on made up statistics..."Blacks masterbate at a higher rate than whites." perhaps what the statistics really show are "Blacks are more honest about their masterbation habits than whites"!

Well, if thats your opinion, I can't say I have a problem with your reaction to this hypothetical then.

I personally see nothing destructive in getting 1 million dollars for posing nude for 1 day.

Could you explain what is so destructive about it? Maybe unpack that a bit, so I can see the specifics of why you think that way?

Posing for a nude magazing does not comport with my vision of my daughter's life.

She could choose a LOT of vocations/avocations and be in accordance with my above criteria.

And Tyra Banks truly appears to be an exceptional person.

The Tyra Banks part kills your credibility. She's awful.

And the first two lines show that you seem you have some preconceived notion of how your daughter's life will turn out. It's one thing to have goals for your children...quite another to already have her own goals mapped out by your own prerequisites.

How is it degrading if she is choosing to pose? I've never understood this. The empowerment of women includes sexual freedom, and the ability to be proud of one's body without having to be repressed by the establishment of men telling them how they can or cannot dress. And your claim that is that it's degrading because it sends the message that she only has value if she is physically attractive. Well, what if she then went out and got a job as an accountant afterwards? What if she used the million dollars to go to school and work towards a degree. If she already had the inherent intelligence to do such things, now the money will enable her to better her life. Is that a bad thing? Isn't that comparatively better than the homely looking girl who gets the job as an accountant and knows she'll never be pretty enough to also be a model? The girl who posed for Playboy not only has the skills and the smarts to do the same job once her photo shoot has passed, but she also has the confidence that very few others would have AND she's got a million bucks to start off with AND she's got something to look back on when she's 50 and everything's hitting the floor.

You are an idiot. This is what I said:

I envision my daughter turning into a smart, strong, confident, beautiful (however your definition of beauty), kind, outgoing woman. I envision my daughter enjoying her life, having an occupation that stimulates her, that she enjoys, that makes her content. I see her having constructive and healthy relationships with her family, her friends, her peers. I see her being respected and respectful.

She could choose a LOT of vocations/avocations and be in accordance with my above criteria.

You call what essentially boils down to "may daughter being happy," as having a "preconceived notion" of how her life will turn out? My "prerequisites" are more like hopes -- that she be "smart, strong, confident, kind, outgoing." I'm pretty comfortable with them.

Month or so back...my daughter tells me Playboy coming to campus to do a shoot - Girls of the Big-10 - and they're holding "tryout's". She's thinking of going, and..."What did I think"? Told her I thought it would be pretty cool. Might be pretty exciting for her. Quite honestly, I think she was testing me...

Ultimately she didn't go...but I wouldn't have minded in the least. I trusted her judgment here completely...

Well, actually I was giving an alternative view regarding the above bolded statement. Just because a woman chooses not to expose herself doesn't mean that she's being "repressed by the establishment of men telling them how they can or cannot dress." Maybe she just respects herself enough to not whore herself out.

If the person is mature enough to handle the experience, I'd support their decision. I think some people are conflating doing a shoot with choosing porn (soft core or hard core) as their long term vocation. I'd try to encourage someone to avoid the later (male or female), but if they can handle the former, I see no reason to discourage them - as said above it could even be an interesting experience for them that a majority of people will never even have the opportunity to have.

Have you ever enjoyed looking at naked photos of women? Ever? Do you still?

I have a daughter and I definitely wouldn't push her to do it, but if she told me she had the opportunity then I wouldn't disapprove. It's pictures of her naked, it's not the end of the world and it isn't a career choice.

:hophead: said perfectly
So you can't tell your daughter you don't agree with a choice she's making unless it would end the world or isn't a career choice.
I just don't think being seen naked is that big of a deal. As long as she is 18 and out of High School I don't have a huge issue with it. I would just want to make sure she wasn't being pressured into it and was thinking beyond just about the money to everything else it might mean.

If I had a daughter, I wouldn't want my daughter to pose for Playboy or any other magazine or anything where she is going to be nude and can be accessed by the general public.

People can argue the logic of this all day long, and there is no logic.

My godson will always be a 10 year old boy to his mother, no matter how old he gets. The kid could grow up and become a Navy SEAL and turn into a 100 percent pure beef eater that wipes out terrorists in every country with a rusty butter knife, it won't matter, he will always be her little boy. A man's daughter will always be that little 8 year old girl with a skinned knee and crying.

You don't f**k with Daddy's Little Girl. I don't care if there is logic or no logic at all surrounding it. It's the vested right of a father to be irrational or overprotective of his daughter. If he doesn't do it, who else will? I don't give a crap about what feminism says and the idea of sexual liberation or any of that modern thinking garbage. At the end of the day, all "Daddies" are going to protect "Daddy's Little Girl" any damn way he pleases and the rest of the world just has to shut up.

Did Katie Faber get raped? Did Kobe Bryant cross the line? I don't really care. If Katie Faber's father decided to drag Kobe Bryant out into the middle of the street and put a round through the back of Bryant's head, as a juror, I would vote "Not Guilty" You mess with a woman, even if she was stupid to put herself there, you better be prepared to face her "Daddy" at some point.

Double standards? So what? Life is full of double standards. I don't care if not wanting my daughter to pose nude appears to be some double standard if I would be ok with my son posing for Playgirl. I just don't care. If I had a "little girl", she would be Daddy's Little Girl and I don't need a reason anymore to be rational about it. You have to be a fool to come between a woman and her son or a man and his daughter.

How would I handle it? If you tell a young girl to not do something, she's going to do it. I wouldn't say anything to her. What I would do is go have a talk to the "producer" or whatever schmuck that is running the op. Most people back down when they know there's no profit in a real stand up fight. Hefner might have real juice, but he doesn't have enough shooters to stop me if he tried to put my daughter in his magazine. I'd steamroll that old man and throw his bullet riddled corpse into a bonfire made out of his collection of bathrobes.

It's topics like these that make me glad I got snipped. I think raising a daughter would just be too stressful for a lot of guys out there.

Knew long before the bolded above - that you were speaking hypothetically here.

:lmao:

If you had a daughter and she had any idea you felt like this, think she would tell you before she posed? What would you do when one of your friends come up to you one day asking why you never told them your girl was posing for Playboy? Still goning to pretend to turn into Daddy bad ### if the pictures are already out?

By the time my daughter gets into - and then done with - college, the million dollars would likely be enough to pay off the student loans.

If your daughter is in school long enough to run up a million dollar tab...she'll probably be posing for Over 40 magazine.
My daughter is 3 years old. By the time she gets to college, it'll likely be $100k a year. Please try to follow the logic.

Well, actually I was giving an alternative view regarding the above bolded statement. Just because a woman chooses not to expose herself doesn't mean that she's being "repressed by the establishment of men telling them how they can or cannot dress." Maybe she just respects herself enough to whore herself out.

I think you forgot a "NOT" somewhere in there.

I guess there are many people here who think there is something to be ashamed of about the human body...:football:There is no difference between a daughter who poses for playboy and a son who signs a contract to play a sport. FACT

:lmao:

I have a daughter and I definitely wouldn't push her to do it, but if she told me she had the opportunity then I wouldn't disapprove. It's pictures of her naked, it's not the end of the world and it isn't a career choice.

 said perfectly
So you can't tell your daughter you don't agree with a choice she's making unless it would end the world or isn't a career choice.
I just don't think being seen naked is that big of a deal. As long as she is 18 and out of High School I don't have a huge issue with it. I would just want to make sure she wasn't being pressured into it and was thinking beyond just about the money to everything else it might mean.
If posing naked is not a big deal why do you care about her reasons for doing it?
