***OFFICIAL*** Wrestling Draft Picks Thread

Recommended Posts

Rules:

1. 25 round serpentine draft.

2. After 25 rounds there is a supplemental draft (of indefinate end) that includes Single Wrestlers, Tag Teams, Managers, Announcers, and Title Belts. The supplemental draft ends when people are done with thier rosters.

3. During the 25 round draft participants may draft:

A) Singles Wrestlers

B) Tag Teams composed of 2 wrestlers (note: in the case of multiple tag teams with the same name, one must name the two members of the tag team)

C) Managers

D) Announcers

E) Title Belts

F) Match Stipulations

G) Angles

4. At the end of the draft each participant will "Write up" in however much detail they choose scripts/play-by-play/whatever 4 1-hour Television shows and 1 3-hour Pay Per View for thier "Company".

5. The winner is the one with the best "company" as chosen by undetermined means. (our judges will likely be a consideration along with popular FFA-wide vote)

6. Certain match types cannot be drafted, they are as follows: Singles Matches (one fall), Tag Team Matches (one fall/elimination), Six Man Tag Team Matches (one fall/elimination), Eight Man Tag Team Matches (one fall/elimination), Triple Threat Matches (one fall/elimination), Fatal Four Way Matches (one fall/elimination), No Disqualification, No Countout, Falls Count Anywhere, and any combination of the previous stipulations.

7. Certain angles cannot be be draftes. These will be judged on a case by case basis. Basically the more specific your angle description is, the more likely it is that you will be able to draft it (ex. you can't draft "feud over who's better" or "feud over a title belt")

8. You may only use title belts you draft in your cards and you may only have the holder of the title belt be someone who has held that particular title belt in the past. You MAY NOT have a wrestler defend a title they have never held, however, you may have a wrestler win a title belt they have never held before.

9. Match types will be allowed on a case by case basis. Some "copycat" match types will be allowed (ie similar idea, different name), others will not (same idea, different object as the goal (but same way of attaining object))

10. "Super" match types are NOT ALLOWED to be picked (ie. "Three Stages of Hell" where the match is 3 specialty matches. If you draft the proper types of matches you may do something like this, but you cannot draft all the match types at one time by picking "Three Stages of Hell")

are they not wrestlers, too?Just because no one is forced to pick jobbers doesn't mean they can't...

Nice pick BTW... As far as star power and name recognition you can't possibly think of anyone else in wrestling history...

and, honestly, I think that in his prime (read: mid 80s, maybe late 80s/early 90s), he actually could wrestle, its just that the style that the WWE was going for and what they were doing from him meant that he never could show that he could wrestle...

Hulk Hogan to me was a no brainer like last season in football with everyone taking Tomlinson.

I'd be willing to take arguments... But you absolutely, 100% cannot go wrong with Hogan...

Hogan's fine. Of course, he's the worst worker of that first tier of wrestlers. He's been a main event heel and face, so that adds flexibility. But he's also worked with a lot of people so it might be tough to find a fresh program for him. This is, IMO, the real problem with being at the top of the draft, because you have to find a guy people care enough about to work with Hogan, but you don't pick again until 24.

No. The man could not wrestle. Ever. It was the main reason why Vern Gagne wouldn't allow him to take the title from Nick Bockwinkle. Because he wasn't a technical wrestler.I remember watching him wrestle when he was new and he couldn't wrestle then. HE sure as hell couldn't wrestle in the 80s or 90s.

a lot of that was character, I think...There is NO WAY he was trained by who he was trianed by in Japan and didn't know how to wrestle...I think he wrestled the way he did because of his size and because that is how people would believe he could wrestle...I'm not saying he could put on 5 * matches consistently like others in the top tier could, but to say he couldn't wrestle at all, IMO, is not true...

Quick question. I understand that any tag team you pick can't be broken up and used as singles wrestlers. But is the reverse true? Can we pair up two singles wrestlers that we pick as a tag team, even if just for one match or at the PPV?

yes, you can pair people together, you just can't split people you pick together up...

I did see him wrestle in Japan. He occasionaly left his feet to do some moves but it was nothing that I would call technical. An armbar takedown or a reverse takedown. Every now and then he would block an attemtped kick and then do the famouse kick to the back of the head. Nothing that was that impressive.

yeah, I just didn't feel like looking it up (probably wouldn't be able to... lol... who knows what all is blocked here)...As far as what he did in Japan, maybe he didn't learn too much... But as far as him wrestling in the states he barely did armbars here. It was truely pathetic how little he did in America as far as "moves" go...But there are definately things he can do with Hogan to get by as far as "wrestling" goes... if he's creative there is no way anyone could even begin to fault him for the Hogan pick...

Okey doke. I'm thinking Shiny will never forgive me for this, but I'm going to pick a guy who I think I can program pretty well with wrestlers available later in the draft. So I'll put my old school cred to the side and draft:

1.3 -- Steve Austin

1.02 Virgil

I've met him... he was a pompous, arrogant ####### who thought WAY too much of himself...
I met him once at the dog track he is arrogant.
Really? I met him at Wrestlemania IV in the elevator at the Trump Plaza. He was nice. He posed for my buddy's mom.

I'm sure that Wrestlemania IV Virgil was very different than modern Virgil.

I met him at a comic-con (don't remember what it was called lol) thing in Chicago in 2007...

1.04--ROWDY RODDY PIPER

Had a short list I was looking at. But in the end, went with one of the all-time great antagonists in wrestling history. Passed on a few obvious marquee faces. But I'll center my program around the versatility, mic skills and flat out ### kicking that Hot Rod brings to the table.

Maybe he was just wearing Arrogance the cologne (don't get any in your eyes, trust me)

Waiting for hitmensharpshooters to pick in a wrestling draft is kind of like waiting for The Andulasian Dog to pick in an 80s album draft. A bit of the suspense is lost.
