Colonoscopy preparation today.....

Well that changes things just a bit doesn't it...

- "shouldn't you have bought me dinner first doc?"

- "usually I don't go this far until the second date."

- "Welcome to my amusement park doc. Roller coaster might me down for monthly repairs ... but the log ride is always open."

(and here's a uni-sex one for all to use) - "I came in for tonsillitis doc ... how long is that camera?"

Last time I went in, I asked the nurses in room how many they do a day.  They replied "allot".  I said "you have saw all of the a-holes in this city then"....

Why would anyone want this done without Anes?  Makes zero sense.

Enjoy the great, albeit brief, deep deep sleep that modern pharmaceuticals can provide.

Between illness and then starting some new meds, I haven't had a solid poop in a week.  And now I am just a few hours away from that magical cocktail   :(

Wasn't deep for me. I had the anesthesia and was still semi-awake and watched the scope on the screen. Could sort of hear them talking and also saw them remove a polyp. Didn't hurt or anything. Prep was worse. Afterwards also felt like crap with so much air inside me and had a bad headache/nausea a few hours later.

I'm a little loopy from no sleep and Propofol, but figured I'd report in on my prep method since I don't think it's been discussed here.
I used Clenpiq, two 5.5 oz bottles of cranberry flavored liquid -though tastes more like lemon to me - that you drink right from bottle. One around 6pm and one 6 hours before procedure -- 3:30 am for me.  :( . You drink 5 glasses of clear liquid over a couple of hours after the 1st one and three more after the second. It really wasn't bad and I was mostly "clean" after the 1st round. And there was no burn, but I don't know if that is affected by the type of prep or I just did a better job this time of limiting fiber for a couple of days prior.

I'm turning 50 soon and wanted to schedule one because my Dad had colon cancer (he was about 68).  My doc said I don't need one until ten years prior to when anyone in my family contracted it.  I questioned him on that but he stuck to his guns.  I'm still not convinced.

What was his reasoning?  It's recommended protocol even without a family history. ACS even recently lowered recommendation for screening age to 45.
Whenever I go for a check up with GP or gynecologist, it is one of the standard items they review.

I just turned 50 and got mine done, they found one, typical polyp they removed and told me to come back in 5 years.  When my wife had hers done she had to start in the morning and drink that horrible liquid all day, hers was like a big jug of pink liquid.  For me, I had two 8 oz bottles that I mixed with tap water.   I was not to eat anything solid the day before the procedure so I ate jello, hard candy, broth and popsicles all day.  At 6:00 pm I drank my first bottle of stuff.  I was spewing liquid from 7:00 PM until 1:00 AM.  At 4:00 AM I woke up and drank the 2nd bottle and I was shooting out orange liquid until 1/2 hour before the procedure, honestly, I was afraid I was going to have an accident during the procedure.  I mentioned it ahead of time and they were like "meh, whatever, it happens don't worry about it."

Rodrigo Duterte, it's YOUR body man, you do it now if you damn well want to and if your family doctor won't prescribe it (as mine did) then I would get a new family physician.  I have zero family history of it but two of my brother-in-laws have had colon cancer, both found it at age 55 on their 2nd colonoscopy, this was years and years ago so I don't recall the details.  I do know that both of them told me to make sure I got mine done, both said it saved their lives, both said their Dad's did not die of colon cancer (both died of heart attacks though.)  But the thing is, it's such a routine procedure, honestly there is absolutely no reason to not get it done.

Prepping for like my 35 colonoscopy today.  My doc of almost 20 years retired a few years ago and this new doc has me doing a 2 day prep.  That's a soft breakfast Saturday morning, then nothing but clear liquids until after the procedure (Monday noon).  He also has me doing two rounds of Mirilax + a series of Ducolax pills Saturday night and tonight.

At least I'll never have to do one of those colon cleanse things.

Ugh. 2 days out. Milk of magnesia is a #####. And now I can't eat the "healthy" foods I always eat.

Tomorrow is the clear liquid diet. Wednesday the colonoscopy.

The only positive there is I'll be nice and cleaned out for a Thanksgiving feast. :headbang:

I am imagining how a cleaned out colon will aid in your dining. Can I request a table in another room?

;)

I went through one over the summer. The laxative they gave me did not work. (Well ... I did puke a hella lot.) I ended up having to take an "industrial strength" laxative in the hospital. The walls were oozing by the time I left.

Good luck.

Suprep can suck a donkey

I got home from work, three of my sons asked at different times what we were having for dinner, while they were eating chips and fruit.

It took a sizeable restraint from screaming "nothing!!! You all can go to h#!! "

I didn't pay anything last year; considered preventative.

I'm pretty sure ours would be the same but it's kind of nice knowing it doesn't matter.

In our 40s with 5 kids, the best thing we have going is lifelong health insurance no cost, $3,000 max annual.

Water. It wasn't that bad really. I could see where someone would want to mix with Gatorade but I didn't find it necessary.

Up now, drinking phase two. Taste doesn't bother me, it's the drinking 8 oz every 10 minutes. After the 4th glass, I'm full and don't want to drink anymore.

Other than that, it's been pretty easy. Not sure if the timeline is the same depending on the appointment time. If I would have known I had to get up at 2 am to drink the 2nd half, I would have considered something other than an 8 am appointment.

Had one last week.  Found 1 polyp and found it to be non cancerous.  For prep I had to take 2 bottles of "colon blow" mixed with water.  This was my 2nd one as I took one below 50 due to family history. Both times there was no anesthesia involved.  It felt funny with the device going up my rear end.

If you're at risk or over 50, GET IT DONE.  It's inconvenient but it's really not a big deal

I remember feeling really good after fasting and thought "I should do this every month or so" - the fasting - not the colon blow.  It's been almost 3 years and no fasting since.  Maybe next month.

Everything was pretty easy. Doc found 7 polyps. So, waiting on lab to determine if I will be on the 5 year plan or the 3 year plan.

Otherwise pretty uneventful.

The last question I asked the Dr/nurse was what time is the best in regards to the prep. He said the 1pm appointment is the best. You drink the 1st half 5pm the night before and start the 2nd half the next morning. You don't get to eat as early, but you don't lose a nights sleep.

I think this would work for me, as I didn't really feel that hungry. I'm just now cooking something to eat. (took a 3 hour nap after getting home). I think drinking the gunk in the morning would fill me up until after the 1pm procedure. :2cents:

Yeah baby. Donezo and pleasantly medicated.

F the not eating thing. I can handle the ####s, but not eating is rough. I don't know how my Muslim friends do it, though not as extreme for any one stretch, but dealing with that for a month...props.

I didn't have a problem with not eating. I've been doing a 17/7 fasting for the last few weeks. (only eat between 11am and 6pm). Lunch is the only time I'm hungry. I usually have to eat something small at 6 pm in order to take my BP meds.  I also ate more veggies and basic rice meals about a week before the procedure. I think that's why it didn't take much to clean me out. (also, I eat red meat maybe once a month)

I was kinda surprised that I was completely empty of solids within about an hour of the first dose. Probably didn't even need the second. Maybe they do that to make sure they cover the knuckleheads who forget or just can't do that duration with zero solids. Or people who eat a lot and are constipated? Two definitely seemed like overkill for me and sucked because it meant I was up all night.

Prep coming up. But for now after seeing some red and a couple bouts of unexplainable light nausea I'm going to see the gastro on Mon. In 2017 I had an adenoma removed. I was supposed to go back the following year since I wasn't completely cleaned out but put it off.
