QB Joe Flacco, IND (1 Viewer)

Rotoworld take:

Broncos coach Vic Fangio said Joe Flacco (neck) is out for Week 9 against the Browns.

Fangio announced that Flacco's dealing with a herniated disk only 24 hours after the veteran openly (and rightfully) lashed out at his own coach's lack of aggressiveness through the media. In turn, Brandon Allen will make his first career start this Sunday. The team will also decide between rookie Drew Lock and Brett Rypien as their backup as the week progresses. Claimed off waivers from the Rams in September, Allen has yet to attempt a regular season pass but did complete 44-of-69 throws for 431 yards and three picks in four preseason appearances with Los Angeles this offseason. With Denver's bye fast approaching in Week 10, all bets are off on whether or not the 34-year-old makes another start for Denver in his career.

Flacco suffered a similar mystery injury right around Baltimore's bye last year, which helped pave the way for a rookie QB to take over his starting slot.

This might be the end of the line for Joe. He has more money than he can ever spend, and he really doesn't care about football all that much. No way will he hold a clipboard for a veteran minimum deal and I can't imagine anyone paying him more than that, or counting on him to be a starter.

If that is it for him, he goes out at #18 on the all-time career wins list for a QB, #10 for career playoff wins. Every guy ahead of him on the playoff wins list is a HOFer, except for Peyton and Roethlisberger, who will be. Joe will not.

Maybe if BAL played a little D over the last 10 years, Flacco would've had a better record.  Poor guy had to carry the team on his shoulders.  No wonder he has a herniated disc.

Flacco is a record setter...

- Tallest QB to throw 40K

- Only QB in history to have 600+ attempts with under 4K, under 20 TD's, and over 20 INT's

- Only QB in history to throw 2+ TD's in 8 straight playoff games

It can be argued that Flacco is a better QB than Brady.  In their 4 H2H playoff games, Flacco has thrown 9 TD's/4INT's, while Brady went for 6TD's/8INT's

Joe Flacco expects to undergo an MRI next month to determine if he'll need surgery on his injured neck.

The former Super Bowl MVP missed much of the season with a herniated disc. Flacco will listen to doctors and see how his tests come back before deciding on whether to continue his career. The 34-year-old said he'd be amenable to returning as Drew Lock's backup in 2020, though obviously that decision will largely be dependent on his health. Though not Hall of Fame caliber, Flacco has enjoyed a moderately successful career, ranking ninth among active quarterbacks in passing yards (40,067). The vast majority of that output came during an 11-year run in Baltimore.

Broncos OC Pat Shurmur said there's much remaining up in the air with Joe Flacco.

Flacco is open to returning as Drew Lock's backup, but injury and contract concerns are working against him. The Broncos would take a $23.65 million cap hit to keep Flacco, but releasing him leaves $13.6 million in dead money. It's possible Flacco agrees to a restructured deal to stay in Denver. There may not be clarity on Flacco's status until he gets medically cleared from the herniated disc that ended his 2019.

ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reports the Broncos expect Joe Flacco (neck) to be healthy for the 2020 season.

Fowler makes it clear that Flacco is not in the running to be the Broncos' 2020 starter, only that they believe he will be physically cleared. Per Fowler, Flacco got good news from a recent MRI. Probably out of chances as a starter, Flacco carries a prohibitive $23.65 million cap number. That would have to be slashed for Flacco to return as a backup in Denver. Flacco expressed zero interest in serving as Drew Lock's mentor last summer. He will likely be sent packing. His release would free up $10.05 million in cap space.

Speaking Tuesday, Joe Flacco's agent confirmed he plans to play in 2020 but not at the "risk of his long-term health."

Flacco is awaiting a second opinion on his recent "encouraging" MRI. With 35-year-old Flacco's career in its death rattle, he has zero reason to risk his long-term health considering the money he's made, especially since he will have to settle for being someone's backup.

Broncos coach Vic Fangio didn't mention Joe Flacco (neck) when discussing in-house backup options.

"We just want to make sure we have a capable backup behind [Drew Lock]," Fangio responded when asked whether the team's backup needs to be a veteran. "[Brandon] Allen may be that guy, [Brett Rypien] may be that guy, and we'll look and see what else is out there." Flacco has yet to be medically cleared from his career-threatening neck injury, but it sounds as if Denver has already made up their minds on freeing the $10.05 million in cap space that comes along with slashing his $23.65 million number off their books. The 35-year-old will have to settle for being someone's backup if he continues his career in 2020.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports the Broncos will likely release Joe Flacco on Wednesday.

The Broncos are beginning to make moves in free agency and need to clear cap space to finalize deals. That means Flacco's days in Denver are coming to an end. His one-year stint closes with a 2-6 record, six touchdowns, five interceptions, and a neck injury. The Broncos were optimistic that Flacco's next would heal before the 2020 season, but he'll have to prove that elsewhere. Flacco will have to settle for a backup gig on the open market. He's 35 years old.

Broncos waived Joe Flacco with a failed physical designation.

As expected, the Drew Lock era is now in Denver. Flacco missed the final eight games of the 2019 season due to a neck injury. He was fairly horrendous prior to the injury, posting a 6-to-5 TD-to-INT ratio while averaging a pedestrian 6.6 adjusted yards per attempt. It might be tough for Flacco to find a team willing to make him their Week 1 starter in 2020, but his final year with the Ravens showed that he might be a solid veteran backup that is willing to help mold younger QBs.

9News Denver's Mike Klis reports Joe Flacco (neck) is expected to be ready for the 2020 season.

Flacco didn't require surgery on the neck injury that ended his 2019. The Broncos waived him with a failed physical, but the expectation is he'll be healthy for the start of next season. SiriusXM's Adam Caplan adds there's "interest from other teams" to sign Flacco as a backup. 35-year-old Flacco should resurface if he gains medical clearance.

Jets signed QB Joe Flacco to a one-year, $1.5 million contract.

Another $3 million is available through incentives. The Jets used a fourth-round pick on FIU's James Morgan, but 35-year-old Flacco becomes the instant favorite to back up Sam Darnold, provided his health cooperates. Flacco is still recovering from neck surgery with an uncertain return date. It is possible he won't be ready to push David Fales by the time training camp begins. Always one of the league's lowest-ceiling quarterbacks, Flacco's floor has dropped dramatically in recent years. If he does nail down the No. 2 job, he will be one of the league's worst backups.

ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reports new Jets QB Joe Flacco (neck) will not be ready for Week 1.

Flacco has resumed throwing but apparently won't be ready for contact until "mid-September." Even that should be considered far from certain considering the nature of his injury. It means the Jets still lack a real backup for Sam Darnold. David Fales or fourth-round rookie James Morgan will get the call if Darnold goes down in September. Flacco sounds like a candidate for the reserve/PUP list, which would cost him the first six games of the season. This doesn't seem to be a terribly sensible signing.

Speaking Tuesday, Joe Flacco (neck surgery) confirmed he will not be ready for Week 1.

“I can’t speak to exactly when I’m going to be ready, but it will not be day one," Flacco said. This, frankly, makes it unclear why the Jets signed him, as they may now end up carrying four quarterbacks on their 53-man roster, a horrid misuse of resources. Flacco sounds like a potential candidate for reserve/PUP, which would reduce that number to three until Flacco was activated.

NFL Network's Mike Garafolo reports the Jets are expected to start Joe Flacco in Week 5 against the Cardinals.

It means Sam Darnold (shoulder) will miss at least one game. Darnold has been pushing to play through an AC joint sprain, but the Jets don't want to risk a setback. Flacco starting downgrades an already league-worst offense. The winless Jets been burned by injuries all season.

Joe Flacco completed 18-of-33 passes for 195 yards and one score in the Jets' Week 5 30-10 loss to Arizona.

Coach Adam Gase gameplanned for Flacco, who was recently cleared to return in Week 3 from his career-threatening neck injury, to constantly roll out into the flats in order to avoid pressure in the pocket. The veteran still unsurprisingly averaged 5.9 yards per attempt, making it the fourth game (out of five) that New York failed to score over 17 points this year. The defense meanwhile has allowed over 27 points in every game this season. Sunday was also the sixth time Gase has lost by 20-plus points since being hired in New York. Flacco (and everyone not named Jamison Crowder) won't be on the radar in Week 6 against the Chargers.

Joe Flacco...

Jets QB Joe Flacco will start this week against the Dolphins.

Jets head coach Adam Gase said Sam Darnold (shoulder) would miss his second straight game. Flacco completed 18-of-33 passes for 195 yards and one score against the Cardinals last week. Miami's defense profiles as a strong fantasy option against Flacco and the Jets, while Jamison Crowder should continue to see volume in what's likely to be a pass-heavy game script for New York.

Joe Flacco completed 18-of-25 passes for 262 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception in the Jets' 30-27, Week 9 loss to the Patriots.

This was by far Flacco's best game of the season across three spot starts. With the Patriots minus Stephon Gilmore on the back end, Flacco was picking on fill-in J.C. Jackson and veteran Jason McCourty on the outside. Flacco hit Breshad Perriman for a 50-yard touchdown over the top of Jackson in the second quarter, and then found Jamison Crowder behind McCourty for a perfectly-placed 20-yard toe-drag swag just before the half. Perriman later whooped Jackson again in the third quarter for a 15-yard score. But it was Flacco's fourth-quarter interception on the first play of one possession that gave the Patriots life to erase a 10-point deficit. The Jets ran just four plays in the fourth frame, going three-and-out on their other drive. Sam Darnold (shoulder) should be back after the bye to face the Chargers in Week 11.

Eagles signed QB Joe Flacco, formerly of the Jets.

It includes $3.5 million in guarantees with an additional $4.0 million in incentives. Flacco was one of the hotter commodities in the backup quarterback market after a brief stint with the Jets. He's not a real threat to Jalen Hurts' starting job, and there's still a chance Philly selects a quarterback in Round 1 of next month's draft. Flacco will be 36 years old next season.

Jets acquired QB Joe Flacco from the Eagles in exchange for a conditional 2022 sixth-round pick.

The pick can become a fifth-rounder based on Flacco’s playing time. 36-year-old Flacco spent last season with the Jets and has experience in OC Mike LaFleur’s offense after playing for Rich Scangarello in Denver in 2019. With Zach Wilson (knee) expected to miss multiple weeks, Flacco should take over as starter after Mike White looked bad in relief against the Patriots. With Flacco out of Philly, Gardner Minshew is now the No. 2 to Jalen Hurts.

Keep in mind for the "Why didn't the Jets re-sign Flacco?" crowd, Flacco did not want to stay with the Jets to mentor, he wanted a shot to start. And so he went to the Iggles for some reason... now he'll have between 2-4 weeks of starts before completely ignoring Zach Wilson.

The Athletic's Connor Hughes reports the Jets "haven’t decided if Flacco will be active or not on Thursday."

The Jets traded for Flacco after Zach Wilson went down with a knee injury but he was unable to join the team until Friday last week and would now be forced to prepare for his first start on short notice. New York faces the Colts on Thursday this week. Mike White also put on an incredibly exciting performance in the Jets' upset win over the Bengals last week. He topped 400 yards through the air and threw three scores, accompanied by a pair of interceptions. With White looking capable of holding down the fort, Robert Saleh and company are likely less concerned with getting Flacco in the lineup with just a handful of practices under his belt. White would be a low-end QB2 if he draws the start versus Indianaoplis. If Flacco is inactive, Josh Johnson will serve as White's backup.

ESPN's Rich Cimini reports that the Jets plan to start Joe Flacco against the Dolphins in Week 11.

Zach Wilson is reportedly still not 100%. Although one gets the sense that the Jets might be willing to let Wilson test his knee if they had faith in his arm. Flacco's experience is what reportedly got him the nod, with the Jets facing a blitz-heavy Miami defense. The bigger surprise isn't Wilson sitting, but that Flacco was tapped to start over Mike White. White is coming off a meltdown against the league's best defense, but in leading the Jets to a shocking victory against the Bengals he showed an ability to keep the offense on track that the Jets have been lacking all season. Flacco should be viewed as a downgrade for Michael Carter, who had been feasting on White check-down passes. Flacco is at least an upgrade for Corey Davis, who is now the favorite to lead Week 11 in prayer yards.

Jets placed Joe Flacco on the reserve/COVID list.

Mike White will join him on the list, too. Even though this development came down immediately after the team announced Zach Wilson would start in Week 12 against Houston, the aforementioned duo's statuses reportedly had nothing to do with that decision. Flacco will likely be sidelined for multiple games since he admitted he isn't vaccinated. Josh Johnson will backup Wilson on Sunday.

The Athletic's Zack Rosenblatt reports Joe Flacco has been "on fire" as the Jets starter in training camp.

Flacco has operated as New York's starter after Zach Wilson suffered a frightening knee injury in the team's first preseason game. Wilson has since undergone surgery and likely won't be ready for Week 1. Flacco recently completed 10 straight passes in 11-on-11 practices, hitting pass catchers in stride and demonstrating a command of the Jets offense.

I get that it's summer but imagine how bad you have to have been before getting hurt to inspire "Joe Flacco is lighting it up!" headlines in 2022.

Joe Flacco completed 37-of-59 pass attempts for 309 yards, a touchdown, and an interception in the Jets' 24-9 Week 1 loss to the Ravens.

Under nonstop duress, the former Ravens quarterback was off the mark all day. He missed open receivers and often threw off his back foot. Flacco's microscopic 5.3 yards per attempt tells you everything you need to know about how the dysfunctional New York offense operated on Sunday. Flacco peppered his running backs with targets, as Michael Carter saw nine and Breece Hall had ten, thanks mostly to runaway negative game script in the second half. Flacco did nothing in Week 1 to show why the Jets might want to stick with the veteran over Zach Wilson (knee) when Wilson is ready to suit up. Flacco will be a low-end QB2 in Week 2 against Cleveland.

Joe Flacco

IN 2022

Joe Flacco completed 26-of-44 passes for 307 yards and four touchdowns in the Jets' 31-30, Week 2 comeback win over the Browns.

The Jets were down 31-17 with less than two minutes to play, and Flacco hit Corey Davis for a 66-yard score, the Jets got the ball back quickly, and Flacco then hit Garrett Wilson for the game-winning 15-yard touchdown on a strike with 22 seconds left. It was the second touchdown hookup between Flacco and Wilson after Flacco found the rookie from two yards out in the second quarter. After Wilson wasn't involved much in Week 1, he played well ahead of Braxton Berrios in three-wide sets and dominated targets with 14, good for a 31.8% share. Flacco's fourth score was a 10-yard hookup with Breece Hall. Flacco will make another start next week against the Bengals but is a bottom-barrel fantasy option.
