Self critique:

QB - Brees

one QB?? one QB??? are you crazy?

Nope. If I get a stud QB this is how I roll

truth be told I was gonna grab Favre or Garcia but the mid round 19 3rd qb run gobbled them up no big deal.

RB - Gore, Grant, L.McCoy, Torain, BJackson,Duckett

Gore and Grant give me a solid 1/2 punch. With Brandon Jackson I cuffed the GB RB production for the season (barring drafting another RB). a couple guys with high upside in McCoy and Torain. Duckett was a 20th round flier who has already been told by his old ATL coaches that his role will be bigger. We will see.

WR - Braylon, Agonzo, Holt, Randel-El, Maclin, Stokley, Porter

Make or break time here. Braylon was pure gold for me in leagues just a faint 2 years ago at extreme value. Guess what? He's gonna be on alot of my teams this year. Agonzo will see an increased role. Holt is the real wildcard, didnt realize how high his cap # is for the Rams this season, so he probably gets traded/cut or has to come back at a reduced rate. I would love to see him go somewhere like I dunno, Philly. Guys like Randle-el and Stokley will score for teams in these leagues more often than you think. Maclin while raw should be a top 20 pick in the upcoming draft and Jerry Porter is a wtf 19th rounder.

TE - Shockey, Keller

I think I did real good here, Shockey was another good value, dude is always hurt but I covered myself well.

K - Vinatieri, Hanson

D - Dallas, Seattle

Vinatieri and Hanson provide 2 dome kickers. Dallas lead the league in sacks and Seattle should rebound with a healthier O

Overall I like what I did

My Team

QB

Philip Rivers SD

Trent Edwards Buf

Being on the end, I had to take a QB here if I wanted an upper tier one. Only 2 had gone so I had my choice of the rest. I am happy with Rivers, as he should continue to improve in his 4th season as starter. Edwards is a solid starter that should score for me a few times this year. Solid pairing, good start at QB.

RB

Marshawn Lynch Buf

LenDale White Ten

Thomas Jones NYJ

Correll Buckhalter Phi

Lynch in the 1st was a fairly safe pick with hopefully a lot of upside. If Buffalo can continue to improve, 8tds and 1100 yards should be his floor. On the next 2 picks I picked up two 15 touchdown scorers from this past year. Jones probably won't get 15 again, but if Washington doesn't take too many of his carries I would be happy with another 8tds and 1100 yards. Barring an injury to Chris Johnson, White won't get close to 1000 yards, but a dozen short yardage tds are always possible. Just keep him away from the buffet. Buckhalter should score for me several times when he is filling in for the inevitably injured Westbrook. Maybe I should have taken a fifth rb, but the old rbs that were left or the 5th or 6th rookie weren't likely to score for me. I had Duckett on my short list, but forgot him when I made my last 2 picks. Running back may not be a strength for me, but definately solid squad.

WR

Reggie Wayne Ind

Chris Chambers SD

Bernard Berrian Minn

Jabar Gaffney NE

Devery Henderson NO

Limas Sweed Pit

Mike Walker Jac

Jerheme Urban Ari

Reggie Wayne in the 2nd is a probably top 5 wr, especially with Manning practicing all off season this year. With another year of experience for T. Jackson or (fingers crossed) a FA Qb signed in the off season, Berrian should be able to improve on his career high in TD's and yards from this last year. Chambers should rebound from the worst stats of his career. Gaffney should be the #3 in NE, and with the return of Brady should score for me several times next year. If Henderson stays in NO, he should have at least 4 or 5 games that he posts a good score for me. If someone signs him to a FA deal, that team would probably want him to be a #2 and he may do even better. Since I only took 3 wrs in the first 11 rounds, I figured quantity would not be a bad idea, so I ended up taking 8 wrs. If one or two of those late round youngsters comes through, this could be a very strong group.

TE

Visanthe Shiancoe Minn

Anthony Fasano Mia

I didn't spend a top pick at this position, but an 8th and 10th gave me a good pair with alot of upside. Shank had several big games down the stretch when TJax came back. If Pennington is still the starter for Miami, Fasano should post even better numbers next year.

K

Matt Stover Bal

Jason Elam Atl

2 kickers :clyde: one from a dome team, Baltimore some what offensively challenged. Just keep your jobs and don't get hurt.

DST

Chicago Chi

Kansas City KC

Chicago could improve their defense back to there usually high standards, and they still have one of the best return games in the league. Had hoped to get a little better 2nd DST, but the crazy run left me with very few choices. Hopefully the new front office and coaching staff will improve on last years showing.

Picking on the end saw tons of players go between picks, so I had to either take value that fell or reach for who I wanted.

I don't see any major weak links on my team, so that should give me a chance ever week.

Pretty happy with this team. weak at TE, but I hope (wishful thinking?) that with Flacco's development that their passing game may open up and Heap can somewhat get back to form. Even if he gets to 75% of what he once was, I like my team's chances. RBs are strong. As I stated earlier, happy to pull off the Choice/Jones combo. If Plaxico plays you guys are in trouble. If he doesn't I should still get solid/good production. I just pray that Rodgers stays healthy. Even if the Lions take Stafford, I think Kitna will play at least half the year.

QB1: Carson PalmerQB2: Matt CasselQB3: Kyle Orton

Three starting QBs...I'll take it.

RB1: Brian WestbrookRB2: Darren McFaddenRB3: Chris WellsRB4: Sammy Morris

A lot of boom or bust potential here...McFadden is the key.

WR1: Greg JenningsWR2: Lee EvansWR3: Ted Ginn Jr.WR4: Ron CurryWR5: James JonesWR6: Devin ThomasWR7: Reggie Williams

A solid group, but not spectacular. Favorite pick is probably Ron Curry, who had back to back 80 reception seasons before last year's debacle...I hope he lands on another team...would love to see him in a Cards uniform!!

TE1: Greg OlsenTE2: Jerramy Stevens

Stevens is a wildcard, but Olsen should be able to deliver consistency when he plays. Probably below average here unless Olsen kicks it up a notch which he's definitely capable of doing.

PK1: David AkersPK2: Shayne Graham

I have two kickers and some of you don't!!

DEF1: Baltimore RavensDEF2: San Francisco 49ers

I have two defenses and some of you don't!! :excited: Overall I obviously like my squad but I admittedly could see an early exit if my RBs decide to tank...could be the top scoring unit and could be the bottom scoring unit...we will see.

Quarterbacks

Peyton Manning Ind 3.8

Tarvaris Jackson Minn 19.8

Peyton Manning is an excellent selection in WSLs due to his consistent high production. Since his second season in 1999, he has passed for over 4,000 yds in every season except one, For the most recent seven seasons, he has averaged over 30 TDs, with a low of 27. Add to that, he has never missed a game. Solid WSL selection and I was planning to go solo, but added Jackson in the next to last round.

Running Backs

Jamal Lewis Cle 5.8

Willis McGahee Bal 6.9

Laurence Maroney NE 7.8

Rashard Mendenhall Pit 10.9

Donald Brown FA 13.8

With my first round selection of Fitzgerald, I short-changed this position. I continued down that road longer than I had intended when first Peyton Manning was available in the third and then Chris Cooley in the fourth. Even waiting till the fifth round before taking an RB, this group could perform better than most will rank them as a whole, which will be close to the bottom of WSL 1. I had planned on going with four, but liked the upside with my only rookie, Donald Brown in the 13th round.

Wide Receivers

Larry Fitzgerald Ari 1.8

Roddy White Atl 2.9

Matt Jones Jac 8.9

Davone Bess Mia 9.8

Mark Bradley Chi 12.9

Malcom Floyd SD 14.9

Had intended to go with seven WRs, but decided to select an extra RB in the 13th and then decided to get a second TE in the last round when Desmond Clark was still available. I really like the top two selected. I think that Jones was a bargain in the 8th. Davone Bess had success this year, especially after the injury to Camarillo. Bradley and Floyd are longer shots, but I hope that with the expected up and down scoring of the WRs as a whole, they will contribute four or five weeks each.

Tight Ends

Chris Cooley Was 4.9

Desmond Clark Chi 20.9

It is critical to get a solid scoring TE in this format and I jumped on Cooley as the fifth TE selected, a full round after Dallas Clark. Desmond Clark was an unexpected selection in the last round. He was targeted third most at Chicago in 08, less than 10 less than Olsen and Forte, and more than any WR.

Kickers and Defense

Phil Dawson Cle 17.8

Dan Carpenter Mia 18.9

Minnesota Minn 11.8

Houston Hou 15.8

Detroit Det 16.9

I managed to snag two kickers that should start. Having two decreases the chances of low weeks. I also grabbed three defenses, which increases the likelihood of special team TDs which are invaluable to survival.

Overall, I like the strenght of the squad. Its a little different than my typical spread, with less WRs and more RBs. Look forward to feed-back from the drafters in our league and also from anybody interested.

Good Luck with that - be at least he can escape the big, black hole................

"There is a chance that the Raiders will cut WR Ronald Curry.

At one point, Curry was the best receiver the team had, but he took a huge step backwards in 2008. The team would like to try to upgrade their receiving corps this offseason, so it doesn't sound like Curry will be in future plans." FF.com

That's exactly what I'm hoping for...I am of the opinion that Curry is one heck of a WR.

I remember when everybody said Moss was washed up...funny how the Raiders can do that to a HOF WR.

QUARTERBACK

Tyler Thigpen KC (7.11)

Kerry Collins Ten (12.06)

Vince Young Ten (19.11)

Not anchored by a stud as I built the team on RB/TE/RB/WR/WR/WR.....and I drafted Thigpen as my QB1 prior to Paoli and Haley being signed by Kansas City........still I think with all their other needs it would be illogical for the Chiefs to be trading for a quarterback. I can see them taking one with upside Later in the draft but that won't affect Thigpen This year. Collins proved this year he can get the job done regardless of game plan, so he and VY give me either all of the Titans QB snaps or two different starters. Either way I should have decent production from on of the least important positions for survivor teams (sure a Stud QB....or one who emerges as a Stud, especially one of the more consistent ones can help, but unless you have the production at RB/TE/WR to go with, it won't guaranteed surviving late into the game; OTOH last year I got three points ALL year from my drafted quarterbacks and finished 5th in one league)

RUNNING BACK

Steve Slaton HOU (1.11)

Pierre Thomas NO (3.11)

Fred Jackson BUF (8.06)

Jacob Hester SD (20.06)

Slaton was a Top 10 PPR RB and I think he will do just as well next year in the Texans offense. Meanwhile while Thomas was a bit player for the first half of the season, he was outstanding in Weeks 11-17 AND a Top 20 PPR RB. With Deuce gone next year, I think Thomas moves up. Fred Jackson was one of the better backup RB in 2008 and I think his role increases again next year. Hester is an interesting player depending on what happens with LT2 and Sproles, but a great last round spec.

WIDE RECEIVER

Vincent Jackson SD (4.06)

Derrick Mason BAL (5.11)

Donald Driver GB (6.06)

Nate Burleson SEA (9.11)

Nate Washington PIT (11.11)

Josh Reed BUF (13.11)

Josh Cribbs CLE (18.06)

Waiting until the fourth round to pick my first WR as a function of the start and by design so I could take three or four straight WR - VJax and Mason were Top 20 and Driver Top 25 and I don't see any of them scoring less this season. Burleson was 17 points and out for the year....but I think he bounces back in an offense that will Have to be better in 2009. Washington and Reed are good WR2 or WR3 for their teams who score about 120 points each last year - AND have upside. Cribbs has a lot of upside as the final bullet.

TIGHT END

Tony Gonzalez KC (2.06)

Brent Celek Phi (10.06)

TE is a VERY important position in these leagues - check the scoring that Gonzo put up this year - top tight end by a WIDE margin and whether in Kansas City or elsewhere will put up another solid season. Celek was a late season development for the Eagles, but with LJ Smith likely gone, could be huge as a TE2 (admit it LOTS of you guys wanted to or should have drafted him)

KICKERS and DEFENSES

Rob Bironas Ten (16.06)

Robbie Gould Chi (17,11)

Green Bay DST (14.06)

Oakland Oak (15.11)

Standard comment is - yeah I have two of each

(and I do, but mine are better than that)

OVERALL - I am pretty happy with this team. I think the solid WR corps and good starting RB and TE will give me a solid base and I think my quarterbacks will score more than you think they will (assuming Thigpen is the starter in KC that I thought I drafted). It may be a Snail .....not the flashy players some of you have, but I think it could perform like a Snail on Steroids

I'm not a huge fan of your WRs and your RBs are below average as well.Upside: 6th place

Meh...not a huge fan of your RB crew and I'm not a beiever in 1 QB. A lot of unanswered questions at WR starting with Holt. I would rank this team in the bottom half.
Look around the league, not too many people have a better RB situation then I.

I bet my WR's score better than yours. I like Jennings the rest of your crew isnt anything to write home about

If you have Brees or Manning you dont need any other QB wasted roster spot.

Just try and last into October this year !

drafting 14, very happy about MB-III, who I feel is top 10 if not top 5 material @RB

Calvin Johnson and Cutler will also top the charts @their position, so the core of this team seems decent enough

combo of Hightower, LWash, MoMorris will log some pointage, as they all saw/will continue to see starts in '09---Washington sits in a backfield whose coach last season was on a staff that ran it 592X's and TJones is no spring chicken

Calvin/Bryant/Breaston/Crayton/Northcutt/DWill/Ike....6 top-60 guys last year, poises to improve as a group, although AB might have put up a career year last season :lmao:

NO-K and Ryan led-D should again provide top half of league production, but as with any season, distribution of playing time and injuries will determine how many weeks we roll in this one

THE TEAM

M.Shaub, C.Pennington, S.Rosenfels

Solid QB duo. Shaub was top 8 in ppg last season. Hopefully he can be healthy all year. Snagged Sage in case he can't. Pennington was runner up for MVP. I'm comfortable with this crew. If you were me you would be too.

S. Jackson, K.Moreno, J.Norwood, A.Bradshaw

I think Stephen Jackson returns to form. The same thing happens every year when dudes miss training camp. They get injured. Hopefully with a full slate of minicamps and training camps SJAX get back to his studly ways. There always seems to be good value in rookie runningbacks in these drafts. Moreno is my top ranked back in PPR leagues and hopefulley he can one of those value rookies. There is some risk there but I added what I though were two complimentary backs to subrogate my scoring. Norwood can post fantasy worthy numbers on one play. I see a significant increase in workload for Bradshaw after Ward heads out of town.

Overall, this group could go either way. It has some upside but also some risk. I am happy with it and will be watching anxiously.

R.Moss, T.Owens, D.Hixon, J.Morgan, C.Schilens, H.Nicks, D.Bennet

Seven strong with two studs in Moss and T.O. With Brady coming back Moss might end up the the #1 WR again. Lots of uncertainty in Dallas right now with regards to TO but isn't there always. Hopefully he comes back. Hixon should see an increased workload with Plax shooting himself. Morgan is a high upside guy who has shown flashes. Chaz is the de facto #1 in OAK currently and finished the year strong. Hicks is the most pro-ready WR in this year's rookie class. With rumors of Holt leaving STL, Bennet may be inline for increased targets in a slot, move the chains type role. Not bad for a last pick.

O.Daniels, B.Pettigrew

Big fan of Owen's game. He's seen an increase in receptions every year. High reception TE's are paramount in this format. Grabbed Pettigrew hoping to catch lightning in a bottle. Hopefully Daniels can carry me here. For my team TE is not a strength due to depth issues but also not a weakness due to drafting one of the upper tier guys.

M.Crosby, M.Prater

Kickers, Got two.

ARZ, NE

Defenses, got two.

Overall I like this team. I have some risk but have a solid core.

WR1: Greg Jennings

WR2: Lee Evans

WR3: Ted Ginn Jr.

WR4: Ron Curry

WR5: James Jones

WR6: Devin Thomas

WR7: Reggie Williams

A solid group, but not spectacular. Favorite pick is probably Ron Curry, who had back to back 80 reception seasons before last year's debacle...I hope he lands on another team...would love to see him in a Cards uniform!!

Ronald Curry is the new Ernest Wilford

Bassnbrew

Ben Roethlisberger Pit

Shaun Hill SF

Byron Leftwich FA

Big Ben and a couple of flyers. I've won previously with Ben/Batch being my only two QBs. I think Leftwich moves on and gets a chance to start somewhere. Hill??? Bottom half of the league production here.

Adrian Peterson Minn

Brandon Jacobs NYG

Warrick Dunn TB

Derrick Ward NYG

I think I've secured 3 starting RBs. Even if Ward stays, he's still a RB2 in this system. Please don't retire Dunn and continue to put up top 30 numbers. I should hang with anyone in this league at RB.

Wes Welker NE

Roy Williams Dal

Reggie Brown Phi

Donte Stallworth Cle

Justin Gage Ten

Devin Hester Chi

Shuan McDonald

We all know about Welker, great anchor at WR1 in a ppr league. I'm higher on ROY then most. Dallas didn't invest that type of capital for him not to contribute. If TO is cut, look out. Getting Hester and Gage as WR1s on their teams late really elevates my WR corps. Brown/Stallworth/McDonald...rolled the dice on on some vets that have shown flashes in the past. I suspect one of them will step up. I'll get mixed to low reviews on this group, but at the end of the year they will have hung with the better corps getting better reviews.

Ben Watson NE

Zach Miller Oak

Miller was looking like a stud at the end of the year. Watson will be hurt most of the year but couldn't pass up one of Brady's weapons late.

Jeff Reed Pit

John Kasay Car

Two kickers that will have a job.

Pittsburgh Pit

Philadelphia Phi

Two of the best defenses.

No major holes, really no minor holes. Solid depth except at QB. No rooks, no former drug users that I know of. Not a flashy team, just one built to survive.

I did...Ward and Dunn. Jacobs was steal where i got him. Ward either covers him when he's out or moves on to a starting role. All four of these guys were in the top 30 last year. In a 16 team league that's huge.

Based on your recent track record, putting me in the average bin is :headbang:

Anyone that solo'd Manning last season was :) in Sept...Brady for that matter---BUT, the guy that took Brady/Cassel late still played early on

LHUCKS...and I'm not a beiever in 1 QB.

I'd have to aggree w/this in survivor format---wayy y tooo many things can happen to rely on 1 score from such an important category

if this was a season-wide thing, I could live w/a solo QB situation, and make a trade, WW---whatever I'd have to do if I lost a Brees for the year

one-'n-done format???

too ris-ki, IMO

2008 SSL1 - CHamp - Only peyton manning done by BSS

2007- WSL1 - champ - only Big Ben - done by BassnBrew

it works. sure a season ending injury to Brees nails me, but I dont think Garcia or Tarvarias Jackson would save me anyway

Batch pulled Bass' a-$$ outta the fire that season--he went w/1-TEAM QB, which is not a QB solo'd

Anyone that solo'd Manning last season was :football: in Sept...Brady for that matter---BUT, the guy that took Brady/Cassel late still played early on

so it worked for you when Manning stayed healthy and put up big ###'s---risk/reward paid off...once

and no, I didn't say you should have taken TJax as the 2nd-QB....

TE-2 @8.2, w/no QB-2?

ball-zee!

yep my bad didnt realize he had booty scratch Batch.

Player left that maybe should have been drafted:Matt StaffordDerrick AndersonDaunte CulpepperKevin JonesFred TaylorChris PerryRashied DavisBrandon LloydJames HardyDwayne JarrettAlex Smithoverall not a ton of value left.

Hardy will likely miss time with the late injury. Don't see Jarrett as a difference maker. Surprised that Lloyd/Davis were selected before some of these WR flyers. Wouldn't surprise me if we've missed two of the opening day starters at QB. Personally I was concerned that Taylor would retire. Jones should have been picked.

I was torn btw Lloyd and Bennet for my last pick. It came down to Lloyd being pretty much a useless blocker so he is only out there on Passing plays.

Bennet was a great pick. To be honest I forgot about him and left him off my list. I would have drafted him over Stevens had I not left him off.

Fro's team is clearly poised to win this thing again. :excited:

post your squad numnuts...so I can tear it apart. It surely can't be as bad as BnB's.

It's a shame that we all can't sig bet you. Problem is that J frowns on long sigs and doesn't want to see you chewing up all his bandwidth.

Should suffice.

A lot of question marks here...with three of the four situations somewhat unknown.

I like this crew, although the depth is kind of up in the air. Not a lot of surefire situations outside of Moss.

Solid K/D/TE

Overall it's almost impossible to know where this team will end up with all the question marks at WR and RB. Could finish last and could finish near the top.
