Vegas - long term sports wagering

Recommended Posts

Ok, so I am heading to Vegas next month (I know about the numerous Vegas threads, and have looked through them, but still have this question)... I am questioning how long term betting works?

How and where do I make the bet?

How do I collect should I win? Do I need to go back to Vegas to collect?

Explain this to me like I am a 5 year old - who is of age to bet!

Not sure what you mean. I voted for an NFL team to win their division/conference well before the season started. You go to the sports book, they'll have a sheet/board that tells you the odds and you place a bet. Then you keep your ticket in a very safe place until the season's over. Or until the Dolfins COMPLETELY screw the pooch for the next five years. Yes, I cursed them. It's my fault.

Ok, so I just have to find a sports book that has what I want to bet on. Make my future wager and hang on to the ticket. Seems pretty simply I guess. So... what are the better sports books?

You do not have to go back to Vegas to collect. You generally have to mail the ticket via certified mail.

Oooh, I like the sounds of that!

You prefer going to the post office versus a built-in excuse to go back to Vegas? oof.

Definitely not. I just know I won't be wagering enough $$ to cover a trip back to Vegas. Although you better believe I will be pushing the issue with the misses should I actually pick a winner.

See? That's what I'm thinking - just don't tell her about the whole certified mail thing.

Best books for futures:LV Hilton (the Best), MGM, Bellagio, Palms, (no hoops)Worst - anything owned by Harrah's.

Confirmed. You can cash any ticket through the mail. I think the certified mail may only be for above a certain dollar amount or at certain casinos - not sure.Futures wagers are one kind of wager where you should do the legwork and check out as many different casinos as possible to find the best odds. A team may be 40-1 at one place and 100-1 at another. VegasInsider.com may have these odds posted...Also, the juice on futures bets is really high, so this is more of a "fun" bet than a "serious" bet, unless you have a strong feeling public perception of a team is way off.
