THE FBG Fashion Thread :style: (4 Viewers)

I like wearing colored socks that match my shirt.

My girlfriend has told me she will kill me if I ever do that.

Is she justified?

Yep, not a good look.If going to wear colored socks than do it in a different color or pattern than your shirt, than it comes off as eccentric and becomes a conversation piece when randomly exposed rather than dorky matchy matchy.

I'm not sure if I like the matching idea but I have all kinds of colored socks I wear when I have a basic t shirt on. Gives you a hint of :style:I get my Wade Boggs on quite often. Red socks are my favorite.

Got it. I've always been considered crazy, which is just a poor version of being eccentric.

Colored socks it is. Just make sure it's a different color than my shirt. I just despise the fact socks are almost always supposed to be black. It's so...bland. I like a lot of color.

I only wear black socks with dress slacks/suits

Me too, but I hate it. Any solutions or am I stuck?

It's definitely not for everyone but if you're known to be a little more eccentric already, you can wear colored socks with dark suits when at a more informal type of event. I wouldn't try to pull it off in a business meeting or interview though. But, for New Year's or a wedding or something of that sort it can work if you're confident and comfortable with it.

Awesome. Thanks for this.

Quick recap, street team -- is this thing worth reading 32 pages?
Not at all. But offdee managed to work his way past mockery and if you have a certain question or want the occasional nugget of stylish information this is a great thread. It's slow moving for sure, but I'm a big fan of this thread.

I've been with the thread early in its' inception and while there are pockets of goodness, I don't think it's worth combing through every page. Note: I don't think any thread is worth reading @ 32 pages if you weren't keeping up with it from the start.

What's goin' on with everyone's :style: these days?

I buzzed my hair down a few weeks ago and have been rollin' with the glasses a lot more lately. Gotta change up the look every now and again to keep things phresh.

Rocking the beard. Didn't shave over the holidays and decided to stick with it. :winterbeardstyle:

Grew a stache for Movember and decided to keep it til my birthday on Dec 31st. It contributed greatly in helping me achieve my vow of celibacy for the month. :stachyle:

Trimmed, but none of that shaping stuff. Shave the neck every few days and that's it.Ordered this yesterday to make the trimming process easier (and cleaner).

Been seeing this look coming on recently...the zip up track type jacket underneath a suit coat. Can do it with or without a tie.

Scanned pic out of a magazine...

I used to rock my Fred Perry tracks under blazers back in the day (circa 2002-04). Stopped doing it ib/c the hipsters started following my trend. I love doing the cardigan thing now under a blazer. If it's too hot, open it up for added :style:

:lmao: I often wear my old soccer shorts over a pair of dress slacks. And nothing says style like wearing a nice pair of cleats with a suit.

Fashion tip:

Always.Wear.Sulka.
First I've heard of this. What sets them apart?http://www.sulka.com/craftsmanship.php
Sorry for the delay in response, haven't been able to get on FBG for a bit. As you've read, Sulka was a high end clothing designer. The company is no longer in business, so the only pieces you can get are already out there somewhere. Known for making high end silk smoking robes and leather wares. Also they made high end suits, shirts, ties, etc. Here's a link to a coat on eBay:http://cgi.ebay.com/SULKA-Cashmere-Silk-Tr...=item1e59f795fb

I've only read about 10 of the pages in this thread, but was suprised to hear that nobody wore/heard of Charles Tyrwhitt. Good quality. Off Jermyn Street in London. Check out Thomas Pink and Turnbull & Asser...other pieces of similar quality of construction and design.

If you're looking for a tuxedo or top end dress suit or shirt, Borrelli Napoli, Brioni, Ermenegildo Zegna, Attolini, Isaia, Kiton, Luciano Barbera are good. There are plenty of others, just a few off the top of my head. You're going to pay a little more, but unlike your Tommy Hilfiger blazer, these items are handcrafted of the highest quality fabrics and hold well to wear. They also keep value and could be resold. Plus, if you are sized correctly, most will fit appropriately and will make you look fantastic. Really worth the extra coin.

I sell menswear as a side job. I certainly wouldn't suggest that I know more about style than anyone else, but I may be able to help with finding quality. There are plenty of places that you can find high quality items at about the same price you're paying at the local mall for crap that will fall apart in a few years. And the only reason I know is that I was standing in those same mall lines too.

ETA: To be fair, Polo and Brooks Brothers are solid options and can be found at local consumer congregations.

Take Care
