I went through, maybe 1/4-1/3 of my play through before giving Gwent a fair shake. To that point I had played only two hands and after playing a few hands in earnest it became a major part of the rest of my play through.  It's a very cool game.
The way Geralt was willing to interrupt deep conversations with major characters to propose a game of Gwent like some sort of junkie always cracked me up.

Whelp this game is gonna be a mega time-sink.  Was up till 1am last night and didn’t even realize it. Made getting up at 630 this morning super fun.
There’s a thread for that game somewhere around here.

“My daughter was eaten by a monster.”

Geralt: “up for a game of Gwent.”

I enjoyed it a bunch, but once you get further in the game and build your deck it’s really easy to win most / all matches.
Little confused by your two posts.  Previous post you said you played for 8 hours then never again, but then you say this.  Not trying to be accusatory or anything, but hard to judge the difficulty of the Gwent part of the game if you never made it past the tutorial area.  It definitely gets more difficult as you go, but if you do keep building your deck and getting the top cards you will win most matches without a huge difficulty.

I just started final fantasy XV over the weekend, same thing, ended up playing til 3am Sunday night... this week has been a little rough.

I think his 8 hours comment was in reference to Dragon Age.

I spent like 8 hours in the Hinterlands, then got bored and never played it again. Apparently it was better to move out of that area and things get more interesting.
Yeah, sort of like W3 need to get out the first area fast.

No God of War buzz? Pretty high review scores. I downloaded it last night - will give it a go tonight.

I think I'm going to wait until it's a bit cheaper to try it out.  Might wait for the GOTY edition.  Really excited for it though.

Been playing some of the new God of War.  It's so-so for me.

The old games, you played a badass who slaughtered hundreds of foes as they came after him.  He was a force of nature in the destruction he wrought.  He took down titans.

This guy struggles to take out a handful of opponents.  I had to lower the difficulty to easy in order to get past a fight with grunts just after you defeat the Stranger very early in the game.

Hopefully the story is better.  They decided to rip off The Last of Us by having Kratos escort a child who helps a bit in combat through the story.  Seems pretty decent so far, but I haven't gotten very far because I wasted a lot of time replaying fights with grunts.  While some people may like that kind of thing, getting pissed off is not my idea of fun.

I presume there is some sort of ability progression/leveling system.  Most games have players start out relatively weak, it would be weird to start as a Boss who one shots enemies.

There is, but like I said, this isn’t like in previous GoW games. The combat is much more difficult.

Even when starting out in the previous games, Kratos was a badass who was never really in trouble in combat unless you were either being swarmed or there were special enemies attacking you.

In this game, you’re can only really see in front of Kratos and he can mostly only engage one enemy at a time. The first enemies I encountered, which were not bosses, still took a good while to take down one-on-one, and when you start having to deal with a handful at a time, they can overwhelm you quickly. Especially if you start trying to focus on one enemy, which is when the others will surround you from the sides and behind.

My mother-in-law just gave us her old NES plus games. I need to replace the 72-pin connector but have managed to get it barely working. I'm currently starting Legend of Zelda 2 - A Link to the Past. No ROM - I'm talking the original gold '80's cartridge game. It's really fun since I don't remember this game at all. I'm totally flying blind. It's like I'm 14 years old again.

That would be my guess, but I've never played any of those games, so I can't say for sure.
Based on your earlier comment ("Seems pretty decent so far, but I haven't gotten very far because I wasted a lot of time replaying fights with grunts.  While some people may like that kind of thing, getting pissed off is not my idea of fun") it was a good choice to avoid the entire Dark Souls universe. Because learning from death is pretty much the entire game.

I'm enjoying God of War a lot so far.

The combat is much different from previous ones, but I think it's for the better. The old ones never grabbed me as I don't really enjoy button-mash combat without any real strategy. In this one, you have to have some battlefield awareness, and you're not this invincible man-god who chews through mobs of enemies. But you have tools and skills at your disposal, and you need to use them (throwing your ax can make a big difference). It's not as tactical as Souls combat (it's much faster, and far more twitchy), but it is similar in that you can't just go in and button mash your way to victory - you have to watch for enemy movements, learn how to dodge/block/etc.

I'm enjoying it, and feel it's a good direction for the series, but I can see where people who enjoyed the straightforward slaughter of the old ones will be a bit surprised.

I've said this before, but Souls always reminded me of Mario Brothers. You traverse the level, you die and go back to the beginning... you learn, you get a little further, you die again. But you keep getting a little further. You finally make it to the boss, and you die in what seems like an impossible fight. But you learned, and all of a sudden, that level that took an hour to get through now takes all of five minutes (and you can get through without getting hit), and you're right back to the boss. And this time, you get him to half health before dying, and you feel like "yes, I *can* win this". One more time, and you finally beat him.

PubG is free to play on Xbox this weekend. My first match I finished top 3 but never saw another player in the 20 or so minutes I was playing (got killed by the blue lightning at the very end).  Then match making wouldn’t work the rest of the night. Not exactly a riveting experience.

I looked periodically to watch you play last night but did not see you.  Did you end up making an progress?
Top 0.43 % right now - just loading in right now actually.  Should be live in 5 mins or so.  I actually ended the night at .31% but decayed a bit overnight

That's out of what, 8 million players?  So I'm pretty happy with that

That wasn’t my experience with those types of games. I’d be able to get to a certain point, and then no farther. Eventually, I’d put the game aside incomplete. Either that or having to find cheats to get through.

To be fair, 7.5 million of those are Chinese hacking bots.

Still impressive though....

Anyone playing Gran Turismo Sport on PS4?  How is the offline version?  Is it still really scaled down from previous versions of the game or have they added enough to it to make it a feature of the game?

Started God of War tonight, looks good so far. My new shtick will be talking to my family the way Kratos talks to his kid...”I do as I please, wife”. A bit of baptism by fire with learning the shield vs the Stranger but got through it. Looking forward to playing more...

I'm digging witcher3 -- but can someone explain when looting becomes stealing?   I still haven't figured this out.  I'm used to the old elder scrolls model where if someone sees you do it, it's a crime.  but half these dirt farmers seem happy as #### to let me come in and clear their house out.  Other times it turns into a battle.  what's the trigger there?

Tons of actors that have been in Marvel movies/show in this show:

Anthony Hopkins

Tessa Thompson

Cyclops

The brother in law from season 1 was in Punisher

Nintendo Switch owners:

TLDR:  Hackers have found an incredibly easy way to run custom firmware on the Switch.  This means you can run unsigned, custom programs a lot easier than you normally could.  Things like SNES/Playstation emulators.

What makes this good is that this is a hardware exploit that Nintendo cannot patch to make go away.  Literally all you need to do is stick a paperclip in one of the joycon plugs and that's it.  Also, with most exploits, if you choose to have a modded console, it has to stay on a certain firmware and thus cannot use the eStore as long as it is modded.  This makes a lot of people hesitant to do this to their consoles.  With this exploit, I believe  this restriction has gone away.

What makes this bad is that it means cheaters in online games now have a very easy way to cheat, software piracy just became way easier, and also that it might make Nintendo move faster on a "New" Nintendo Switch which fixes the exploit but will also make future games require the new console.

Seems pretty cool. I could see it being Similar to P.E.S where the creation Community depending how much free reign we are given importing the real teams and players from creations. OPS does a great job filling in the minors for MLB The Show every year. If there's a big enough creation community this could be really great. I'd like to see some Game play and graphics and see what they do presentation wise in terms of commentary before I'm all in on this. This game could be a huge success or an epic fail though.

Anyone playing FarCry 5? First FarCry I've played since the first one. Really enjoy it. Stuck on killing John right now with all the wolves boss level.

Love this game. I am almost at the end and don't want to beat him so I am out doing all the quests I never go to. No idea what I will do once the game is finished.

The best thing about it being a smaller team is that it doesn’t need to be a huge success right off the bat for them to stick with it. I’m willing to forgive A LOT of mistakes if they keep patching and fixing it.

Nobody is playing Gran Turismo Sport?  Maybe that says what I need to know...

If anyone has played, I would appreciate your thoughts.

The screen capture doesn't exactly get me excited about the prospects.

I can see a situation where they've designed the game to allow the community to program in exactly the NCAA layout, which I could see challenged in court.  We'll see.
