Finally watched The Irishman with the wife last night.

About 45 minutes too long.

Good movie. Not great. And certainly not Best Picture caliber. No freaking way.

Joe Pesci was easily the best performance. So calm and cool this time out and we loved it. DeNiro was also his usual high quality self. Pacino....well he has lost any range IMO. It is the same character I have seen him play for 20 plus years and counting to be honest.

Overall a good solid mafia movie but not nearly in the class of Goodfella’s, Casino or the first two Godfathers.

It is not something I would have to watch again.....where as Goodfella’s or Casino I can always watch.

Family movie night last night and my boy wanted a kind of action-y flick. We're trying to be more mindful of his age (9) and how violent or scary some films can be. For example, Coen Brothers remake of "True Grit" was good until it wasn't (bandit shot in the face, fingers cut off). Sooo, we watched "The Rocketeer" on D+ and it was fun. The special effects are pretty piss-poor even for 1991 but didn't much matter. Alan Arkin, Billy Campbell, Timothy Dalton, and the most glorious beauty of Jennifer Connolly. It's good fun and could benefit from a reboot probably.

Fell in love with her the day I watched this movie.

EXCELLENT family movie.

Watched Dolemite and Marriage Story yesterday.  Probably should have switched the order around, instead of ending my night on a downer note with Marriage Story. Both were pretty great though.

She was tremendous. Gattis, as he did with Irene Adler, Mary Morstan & the Holmes' forgotten baby sister in Sherlock, writes women who do & understand things a man can't, and we can never have enough of those. Best von Helsing by a mile
Loved this version of Dracula, especially the Van Helsing character

I saw Magicians mentioned early, anybody watch it? I started the Order a while ago and got pretty bored with it quick.

I watched a season or two of the Magicians.. while not high tier, it was better than expected and a fun enough watch. Can't remember why I stopped. One of my GCs girlfriend was one of the leads, coincidentally.

Started "Russian Doll" last night after the football. I had heard good things about it but wasn't in a hurry to check it out. It is surprisingly good - funny especially - with Natasha Lyonne playing lead here. I have never much cared for her as an actress but this is a great vehicle for her style. I feel like I knew dozens of women like her when I was living in NYC and it makes me a little homesick. As a show, it's a bit like Paul Rudd's "Living with Myself" conceptually but very funny.

It's a good comparison for tone and quality. And takes place in a stylized version of my hood, so it was fun to see local spots. While I won't claim love, I liked them both quite a bit. And I'll always have a soft spot for Natasha since slums of Beverly hills

We're halfway through it and it's threatening to lose its way a bit. I want it to be like "Groundhog Day", perhaps, more than it is really. As for Lyonne, she seems at ease with the dialogue and it makes me think she's perfect for a some detective show. Pair her with Craig in "Knives Out 2" and I'd be in heaven!

I watched all the seasons of Magicians. It’s a decent show, kind of silly at times, kind of a light “fun” (hate using that word) watch. Was good enough for me that I actively sought the latest season when it dropped.

Magicians is straight stupid fun.  They do musical numbers, make horrible jokes, have fantastically silly side stories...there’s no way I should like this show when given such a description, but damn if it ain’t fun and enjoyable

This is what I remember too...it was better/more enjoyable than it had any business being given the content.

It's a bit like how I felt about The 100.

Ive been watching The Witcher after the wife goes to sleep (she has no interest)...and have been enjoying it in a similar way. Although this feels more "serious" fun than the goofy fun that the Magicians presents.

I am 4 episodes into the Witcher and hanging on by a thread.  I was looking for something to replace my Game of Thrones desires.  Not sure it's working.

Just finished episode 5 of the Witcher and I am very pleasantly surprised at how good it is. Even my wife is fully onboard, which I wasn’t really expecting; Cavill probably helps there. Speaking of which he nails the role.

Yeah...going in expecting a GoT replacement for just about any show seems a recipe for disappointment. I expected this to be dumb, with cool visuals... and its smarter than I expected and fun to watch. It's not remotely genius tv, but the writing, story, visuals and acting all work just fine.

Just started watching a Norwegian drama - Occupied.  3 episodes in.  Very interesting concept...

In a post ‘US leaves NATO’ world, Norway PM announces they are getting out of the fossil fuel business upsetting nations of the EU and Russia.

Believe the PM is the head Viking in Norsemen...

Im 6 episodes in, it’s OK, some of the monster effects are like Power Rangers bad

Not sure I agree with this. Special effects seemed fine for me.
I get what dans saying... Particularly the anthropomorphic creatures that can talk- look pretty rubbery CGi, especially in the faces and has distracted me out of the moment of the show. Other creatures and art direction/production values  have been fine for me.

Wifey and I finished up Reprisal (Hulu) last night.  It was a solid and enjoyable ride for the first 7 episodes, but the last 3, and particularly the finale, were just weak sauce; felt like they never had a true idea as to where the story would go.

Stylistically it’s fun enough to recommend as a quick binge show.  The kid who played Aladdin in the recent live-action version is in this movie and I have no idea what his appeal is as an actor.  He’s stiff and has a constant “I’m not sure I should be here” look of angst  7/10

The first two episodes have been phenomenal, best Dracula ever territory but am the 3rd episode in it appear to be falling off the rails, hard.

Ha, we just finished last night too. I didn't find the ending THAT bad but agree it could have been better. I also didn't mind Ethan that much but agree about that look :lmao: .

It's a fun show. 7/10 feels right.

2 episodes into The Witcher.  Ep1 was great. So great, in fact, that I decided to watch Ep2 right after even thought I probably should have gone to bed.  That's probably the reason Ep2 wasn't as enjoyable but still pretty entertaining .  Cavill is solid in this role. Waiting patiently to see what all the hullabaloo regarding Yennifer is all about

Episode 4 I believe is her coming out party

i liked dracula because it was scary and also went ... what you call neat take that to the bank brohans
I'd say that's also a spoiler brohan

Is Dracula TV-14? I always pause when shows are rated below TV-MA.
There was no nuditity or swearing that I recall. Some gore as you would expect but compared to the graphic novel stuff they make into movies not bad at all.

The head removal was a bit bad.  That alone makes that rating a little suspect.

I'm 4 eps into a Bulgarian series on Amazon Prime called Undercover and its pretty dang good.  It's subtitled, so it requires attention.

Kid with a rough past is recruited to be an undercover cop in a violent drug gang, which I think is screenwriter template #6.

Finally got around to watching Marriage Story. He was lousy in the Star Wars movies but he nailed this. Just phenomenal.
I like Driver quite a bit. Not many actors like him on the market today. I never saw him on "Girls" because we don't have HBO but totally dug his character and performance in "While We're Young."
