Mr. Chumley

Blue Blazer

Recommended Posts

I've got a company Christmas party tomorrow. I haven't had to wear a suit or Jacket in years. Are the blue blazers still in?

Always a classic.

But if you have brass buttons on it, you'd better be on a yacht.

There goes the hat I was going to wear.

Mods, please move this to the The Official FBG Fashion thread. Offdee is your friend.

A blue blazer is timeless.

How you accessorize it is another story.

The Navy Sportscoat is the cornerstone of the business casual wardrobe.

A blue blazer doesn't go "in" or "out". That's a question of fashion. A blue blazer is style, not fashion.

No big deal. Most men won't be wearing their jackets an hour into the party.

Edit to add: a modern tie is more important.

So the cotton weave tie I wore in 1987 is a bad idea then?

they're actually coming back but I still think they look like excrement.

A standard navy blue blazer never really goes "out" as it's more or less a timeless classic, but it will depend on a number of things if ti's appropriate....

- if has brass buttons than don't ever wear it again.

- if it has patches on the elbows most likely time to take it to Goodwill

- if it has shoulder pads that make you look like Jared Allen on gameday than probably better to take it to the garbage

- if it fits like crap then probably better to just not wear a jacket at all.

- if it has 3 or more buttons than probably a no go.

On the other hand, if the jacket is well fitting still, has two or one button and you pair it with a nice looking collared shirt and some flat front (no-pleats!) khakis you should be good to go.

The most important thing is fit with jackets....odds are if you haven't worn it in a while it probably doesn't fit right anymore, but here's hoping for the best.
