Good draft venue in Boston? (1 Viewer)

Hey all,

I am the commish of my league and about to embark on my least favorite duty of the year, booking the venue for the draft. The last few places we have drafted have been real duds. Is there a listing of good (and not so good) venues anywhere on FBG or elsewhere? I can't take another draft with 16 owners huddled together on bar stools with house music blasting in the background!

Thanks sharks,

Mr. D

I bet you find most people don't 'hit the bars' for their live in person draft. Try someone's house.

Or start a new bar in Boston called 'Just Drafts'. Only open for 1 month though!

We have a few Boston Type Folk in our league and I was thinking Foxwoods / Mohegan Sun would be cool....

ETA - I know it's not Boston but, a good meet in the middle place for some.

Not sure I agree, and unlike bars, "someone's house" is typically not accessible by public transportation. Plus tons of bars and restaurants have function rooms.

I'll just file that under "I don't have a suggestion for you." :lmao:

We booked the private room in a nice restaurant last year that had wi-fi and it was a hit. The smoking hot waitresses didn't hurt either.

Some of the larger chain restaurant/bars have had special promotions geared towards getting leagues to draft in their places.

Hooter, Buffalo Wings, Fridays are among those I have seen - not sure what is in your area but definitely worth checking out.

I always had success when I lived in LALAland using a private room in restaurants - they were glad for some extra business since draft days/times were usually not among their busier periods.

Couple bars, private rooms with private bars, TVs, pool, bowling. Place is huge. Right next to Fenway. I've been to a couple parties in the private rooms here with food/drink etc and they were great.

I'd check out Tavern on the Square they have 2 locations in Cambridge right now, Central and Porter, that are feet from the Red Line. Good bar food and cheap pitchers. Only been there to watch games so I don't know about the WiFi capabilities...but the waitresses are usually pretty cute.

That's what I'm talking about. Plus it is always a good idea to have booze available for your league mates..
The best idea I ever had was to supply free booze when we drafted one year at a league member's summer cabin...BBQ at 1:00 pm with drinks flowing, draft at 4:00 pm and some outstanding draft picks were made by the drunk guys (QB Rob Johnson in the fourth round by the Bills homer, fully convinced that he was going to return the Bills to their Superbowl glory and a PK (Mike Hollis) drafted in the 7th round by a guy who always had poor kickers, and took the top scoring kicker from the previous year - only to watch Hollis tank the following season!)Awesome!

Every year we book the meeting room at Cottonwoods golf course at harrah's casino in Tunica, MS. It's got a giant balcony that overlooks the 18th green, wood paneled walls, etc. BYOB. Nice setup.

Some of the guys play a round in the AM with various bets going. After the draft we check into rooms and then have a private poker table reserved where we get a 4/8 limit game going. As folks bust out they spill into the casino for other types of gambling. It's an all night affair that is a ton of fun. Look forward to it every year.

Adam Jones of Sports Hub was at some bar in Woburn on 95 tonight that said it caters to drafts, provides a white board, etc...if you can pull a podcast of his show tonight he said the name of the place a bunch of times - mentioned 25 cent wings on Wednesday as well...
