Alice In Chains (1 Viewer)

I've always been a casual fan of Alice In Chain. I grew up listening to them on the radio and they were hitting it relatively big when I was early in high school. Recently though I was messing around on youtube and found the old videos of their unplugged session on MTV. I forgot how freaking amazing this band was until I started watching these videos. Truth be told I'm addicted to them now. I'll post a few of the songs for discussion. Who do you think had the best Unplugged performance ever? I used to think it was Nirvana, no contest but now I'm second guessing. My top 3 would have to be (in no particular order): Nirvana, Alice In Chains and Stone Temple Pilots.

I don't care if you like this kind of music or not. These guys F'n nailed this concert!

I miss Layne Staley, he's my second favorite frontman of all time behind Mike Patton.

That being said, the new AIC album, Black Gives Way To Blue, is very good. Saw them in concert back in March. Great albums all the way around, such pain/depth in the lyrics. A great band who doesn't get enough credit IMHO.

Actually listening to Facelift right now while I'm writing!

Sludge, Brother and Frogs from unplugged. Awesome stuff. Can't listen to the studio version of Frogs...the unplugged version was so much better.

Agreed OP, great unplugged.

Other unplugged I've really liked, in no particular order: 10,000 maniacs, Nirvana, Dashboard Confessional (I know.., but I don't wear tight jeans). Nirvana and Alice in Chains are the ones I like most though, slight edge to Nirvana.

Stevie ray owned unplugged. Tesla even though it wasn't mtv, pearl jam and chains were all awesome.

I like evrey song AIC did Unplugged, but I think Got Me Wrong was the one song that was most "improved".

Jesus Lane - put the needle down for a minute....

Been listening to alot of AiC as well recently. Listening to DIRT while cutting lawn so really listened to lyrics. Jeez. Everything's about being a user, dying etc. What a great band. By far my favorite of that Seattle/grunge time. So sorry I missed them opening for VH. Back in the day of being too cool to go in & see opener.

Love AIC unplugged. But IMO the best unplugged album I've heard is Eric Clapton.

ETA: Haven't heard SRV, though. Wish I had that.

This moves into my top 3.

Chad Gracey absolutely kills it on the drums. :headbang:

I have this on CD and the songs are regulars on my phone. Live was always great live and were even better acoustic. It's unfortunate that Ed Kowalczyk left the group and left the spot to George Shinn's son.Seek out their Cold Live at the Chapel performance.

Yeah, I saw them Live many years ago. I simply forgot how good they were. I also saw Ed live when he was solo. That guy has some amazing pipes! Really, the recordings don't do him justice IMO. He blows the doors off any room. It really is incredible live.

The album is amazing. At one point Nutshell Unplugged was my #1 played song on my ITunes. Love how it starts out with each band member coming on to the stage and just starts playing. Layne's emotion on the song is incredible like he is singing he song to himself.

I always cringe when people mention Pearl Jam when discussing AIC.Whereas all of AIC's songs (even the sad ones) are badass, Pearl Jam's sad songs always seem all whiny and #####y to me. Like I just want to grab Eddie Vedder by the scruff of his neck and tell him to stop crying and man the #### up. Not sure why I feel this way; I just always have.

Where did you get a copy on cd? I've been trying to find an mp3 of their "supernatural" cover for years. I've also been looking for a good quality version of "hold me up" for awhile too. Naming their band live inadvertently made it very difficult for me to pirate their music.

It's not an official CD. Unfortunately, they didn't sell it, so I had to resort to a bootleg. I have several bootlegs from them, but I own everything they've commercially released legally. I empathize with your trouble finding stuff online from them due to the name. Unfortunately, the site I used to visit has long expired. I used to use the search term +Live+ to find them. You can try that. edit: That search term still works. I'll have to check out the current sites to see what's new. Also, PM me with email and I'll gladly send you the song.

Just scored some 5th row seats right in front of the right side of stage for a small venue in May (Bluesville at Horseshoe Casino in Tunica)... has anyone seen them lately? Pretty solid still? Playing acoustic sets or still electric?

2nd row seats tonight in tunica.... setlist looks pretty Dirt / Jar of Flies heavy this tour

Cantrell does such great, interesting guitar work. Not the flashiest player but his riffs are killer and original.

Always liked this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cv9rtr_aAr0
Great choice!

AIC and Corrosion of Conformity are two bands that never really get the credit they deserve for being great bands.

Any C.O.C. fans here?

ETA:Avoid the softball if you can :lmao:
:headbang:

With and without Pepper. Great band.

Love Hate Love Live at the moore

If you ever doubted Lane as a singer later on I get it. But this is what he could do at the start, and its as good if not better then the rest at the time.
My love for the music of that period is eternal. To see Layne healthy on not drug ridden.......great find. I also know who Wood was before most and I just hate I like hearing dead people sing when they never hit 30, that goes for Kurt too.

Going to see them on the sixteenth. Really looking forward to it.
The show 2 nights ago was great. Setlist is pretty standardized for the tour. We got:

Them bones

Dam that river

Again

Check my brain

Hollow

Choke

Down in a hole

Man in a box

It ain't like that

Nutshell

No excuses

A looking in view

We die young

I've got video from our seats (2nd row reserved, about 5 deep on Jerry's side) for nutshell and would that I can post up. Very good show. Nothing too outside the box... But well played with good energy.

Still my all time favorite band. And I agree with BSS -- Jar of Flies is one of the greatest EPs ever.
