Yahoo Waiver Wire Rules (2 Viewers)

This is my first year as commissioner and the first year we're moving to the waiver wire. In prior years it was a free for all on getting to the computer to pick the latest undrafted rookie who had a big day. To bring more order we're going to waivers. To have waivers on just dropped players and allowing the free for all still on the undrafted pool is not good. My goal is to make all available players subject to the waiver wire 100% of the time.

The 4 waiver categories to set are:

Waiver time: Which can be set from 0 to 7 days.

Waiver type: We're not going to bid so it will leave 3 choices. Weekly rolling list based on standings: waiver claims are processed in reverse order of standings and each successful claim moves a manager to the end of the waiver priority list. This seems to be the method we want as long as it's not incongrous to the goal we seek.

Weekly Waivers: Settings are: None, Sunday - Tuesday, First game of week - Tuesday.

Post Draft Players: Free Agents or Follow Waiver Rules

I guess one additional question I have is when are players actually acquired to be used in games?

Any assistance on choosing the settings will be greatly appreciated.

Note we haven't drafted yet so team below is from last year. I'm also aware once draft is submitted we can not change the waiver wire settings.

The problem (I believe) is that weekly waivers and waiver time are independent settings. I use Sunday to Tuesday and "two days". Which means that the two days really just impacts guys who are dropped between Tuesday and Sunday. I'm not sure there is a single overriding setting that will lock it down for you.

I might be wrong, but I think the 'First game of the week-Tuesday' setting locks the FA pool at game time and then unlocks it on Tuesday with everyone on waivers. That stops people from scooping up guys mid-game after a starter gets injured, and gives everyone a shot at putting in a waiver claim for the new guy.

The only snag I could see is if you have a long waiver time for players and use the 'first game of the week-Tuesday' setting, you might never have players be awarded because their waiver status stretches past the Thursday game kickoffs and then they ger re-waivered that next Tuesday.

Having the free agent pool locked until Tuesday and then everyone on 24- or 48-hour waivers seems fine to me.

The problem with "first game of the week-Tuesday" is when thursady games begin ALL players will be locked on thursday, even those who play on Sunday/Monday. If something were to happen to one of your players between Thurs and Sunday and you don't have a backup you'd be out of luck. I like "2days" and sunday-Tuesday" Keep everything orderly with no first-come first serve free for alls

If the setting is at sun-tues and there is a Thursday game that week. Are the players that play on Thursday FA's or go on waivers until the tuesday?

So if my waiver time is 2 days and my waiver period is Sunday - Tuesday and my Post Draft Players follow the waiver rules then that seems like the best settings I can use. My question then is explain to me how and when (and how soon) someone can pick up a free agent from the pool of undrafted players? Typical situation is an undrafted player has a monster day on Sunday. Can someone also put it in a timeline how things work all week. Thanks

I'm not really sure I understand your question. Immediately after the draft, all undrafted players will be locked on waivers for 2 days. You can put in your waiver claim right after the draft and in 2 days he'll be on your team unless someone has a higher waiver priority also puts a claim on him. When the season starts all players will be locked from the beginning of sun-tues. If a player has a monster day on Sunday (or Monday), put in your waiver claim and when Tuesday morning rolls around check and see if you got him. all dropped player will be placed on waivers for two days. You can put in your waiver claim as soon as he's dropped but you'll have to wait two days to see if you were able to get him.Hope that clears things up a bit

Beginning Sunday and lasting until Tuesday (or maybe Wednesday; I'm not sure if the ban is lifted on Tuesday or runs through Tuesday), the free agent pool is locked down and no players may be added to rosters. Starting Tuesday (or maybe Wednesday) all unclaimed players are listed as being on waivers and follow the waiver wire claiming rules until their waiver status expires (2 days, with your settings). Anyone still not claimed after players clear waivers are listed as free agents, and can be added immediately on a first-come, first-serve basis until the league is locked down again the next Sunday.

My personal opinion on the waiver wire rules in general is they suck.

My main league is a complete free for all but their is a limit of 9 waiver wire transactions. We have 18 man rosters and believe this encourages trades. Im a big fan of this set up but realize most probably don't care for that setup.

In my other leagues we wave what I assume is the regular waiver rules with priority, the 2 day wait, and the roster lock at some point or other. This is ok but I think its gives an unfair advantage to bad teams and does not reward those who are the most diligent. Kind of "socialist" if you ask me. JMO of course.

I prefer my main league setup but if waivers are involved I think I like blind bids or some system like that. Would like to know more about this.

We have a 2-day waiver period and then everyone goes to free agents. If something really big happens on Sunday, there's always a major scrum to be the first guy to log in and grab that week's hot waiver wire pickup. Heck, if a guy is playing on Monday night and I like his backup in the event the starter gets hurt/benched, I'll go ahead and claim that guy that BEORE the game, just to avoid the crowd. I figure I can always drop him again after MNF if nothing changes.

I'm ok with this setup, but it really favors owners who watch every second on Sundays and have their lineups handy on a laptop or cell phone. I think I'd rather have a limited number of transactions and keep the league locked down until Tuesday. It would make you think about roster moves more than just using the last spot or two on your bench as a rotating list of players.

Does anyone know if there's a way that Yahoo will track fees associated with Waiver claims (e.g., $1 for each add or waiver claim)?

Well last year we were like the West Wild. Free for all. We charged $5 for each free agent pickup. I wasn't commissioner but I think yahoo keeps track of how many FA are picked up by each owner.

Thursday night players not automatically going to waivers is going to be a hot button issue today!

I just picked up Vincent Jackson in 2 leagues, and the commish did it in another yahoo league. In the spirit of the waiver system I don't think it is right. ESPN puts all thursday players on waivers. Oh well
